A bright flush of embarrassment covered Lady Pearl's face. Her daughter had gone and fainted, during a courting! How unladylike!
Attempting to fix the situation as best she could, the lady of the house began to shout orders. "Don't just stand there, you fool!" She cried, pointing at Rizeh. "Take my daughter to her chambers at once!" With that, she turned and addressed Sir Winston. "I do apologize, my lord. I simply do not know what has gotten into that child. Please, let's return to the dining room for some refreshment." Her voice was sweet once more.
The lord peeked over Lady Pearls shoulder at the unconscious girl, the shook his head. "This was Fredrick."
At first, Atalaya wasn't sure her trick had worked. That was, until her mother began screaming. It had worked! The duel wasn't going to happen at all! The harsh yelling just above her made the girl want to open her eyes and figure out what exactly had happened, but after thinking it through, decided to keep playing her part.
But what would happen once Rizeh got her back to her room?

User ImageRizeh was beginning to get agitated that the Lady Pearl only seemed to be concerned of how "improper" Atalaya fainting was. Of course, she hadn't really fainted but he doubted the Lady knew that. What if she really had been injured? Would her mother even stop to care? It was made him angry and sad for Atalaya, because she deserved much more than that. The Lady, he decided, was one of the most hateful nobles he had ever seen. No child or person deserved to be unloved like that. "Of course my Lady. I will stay with her until she awakens." he said, head bowed. He was still conscious of the scathing glare from Mr. Winston but since he had the Lady's permission, he couldn't see how it was wrong. Very carefully, he picked the madam up, holding her to him and taking off towards her room. He hesitated when they got to her room, not wanting to invade any kind of privacy but he supposed he couldn't stay out forever. In any case, he had to do something with her paintings to hide them from her mother. Shifting her slightly, he opened the door and walked in, setting her on her bed before walking back to shut the door. He went back to stand beside her bed, keeping his eyes lowered and his hair in front of them the most he could. He wasn't sure what to do really, since he knew that she was faking, but he thought that it would be horribly rude to just stand there and make her keep pretending. "You can open your eyes now madam." he said quietly.

User ImageFredrick simply couldn't believe that Lady Pearl was letting that filthy thing touch his Atalaya. He kept a fierce glare fixated on him, cringing when he picked her up though he had to admit, albeit begrudgingly, that he was a little impressed that the scrawny thing could even lift Atalaya, but only a little. A small physical strength was nothing, absolutely nothing. He was certain that he could still easily beat the commoner in a sword fight. In fact, the poor boy had probably never even held a sword. Pathetic. But then again, all commoners were. Anger nearly radiating from him, Fredrick turned to follow Lady Pearl and his father, just biting back a remark about already knowing the way. He simply couldn't believe that the Lady was putting so much trust into this new "bodyguard" and the fact that he was carrying his Atalaya to her very rooms only proved to heighten his anger. "I do not question you wisdom my Lady, but I do not think I like this new 'bodyguard' of Miss Atalaya's." It might have been wrong to say it and it might not have but right then he did not care, his anger making him forget to properly behave.

Atalaya blushed and sat up. He had known all along. But then why hadn't he called her out?
"Umm..." Her mouth suddenly felt dry and she could seem to grasp any words. "I... It's just..." Frustration quickly consumed her. Why couldn't she make a simple sentence. Explain this whole thing to him.
The noble's bed chamber was clean as a whistle. The only thing amiss was the slightly ajar door on her wardrobe.
"I just didn't want you to have to fight that horrible man." The words came from her before she had time to filter them. "Oh, that isn't what I meant. Well, it is, but it isn't." Again, she was fuddled, at a loss for words. If it got out that she had spoken about a suitor like that, her mother would have her hide.

User ImageRizeh gave Atalaya one of his rare genuine smiles usually only reserved for his brother and sister. He wasn't entirely sure why the smile fell in place so easily then, listening to the madam stumble over her words. Unknown to him, his hair had fallen from his eyes mostly as well, showing the soft look in them. Her reason rather surprised him and the smile turned a little confused. Why would she fake fainting for such a reason? Surely she could not have been worried about him? The thought almost made him laugh a little, he could have handled it one way or another. Atalaya seemed to be getting more flustered by the moment and the laugh quite nearly did escape him, a small sound that was very close to it coming from him before he could stop it. "It's alright Madam, I understand, though truly it would not have been a problem. If you are still feeling faint though, we can stay here for a while. I promised to stay with you until you woke." he said, his voice quiet and soft once more, though it held a kind of strength behind it that had been missing in his previous nervousness. He felt like telling her that he agreed that Mr. Winston was indeed a horrible man but that could only get him in trouble so he held the comment back, instead looking about the room out of habit. He could find nothing at all out of place except the door to her wardrobe. "Is that where the rest of your paintings are Madam?" he asked curiously, remembering her saying the paintings were somewhere by the wardrobe. The painting he had seen had been so wonderful, he wished to see more of them. They way she captured color was intriguing.

The noble nodded, getting up from the bed and crossing to the wardrobe. She pulled the door fully open and after some digging retrieved a canvas from the forest of dresses. Carefully, as though it may break at any second, Atalaya laid it down on her bed, then went back. From the closet, the dark haired girl pulled 7 completed pictures and 2 empty canvases along with all her painting supplied. The first picture was of a window. It was stain glass and on the ledge of the window sat two birds, one yellow and one red. The colors were vivid and rich, as though she had stolen them from the rainbow by hand. The next panting was on a smaller canvas and depicted a stack of books, all romance novels. A flower on another. Water falling into her fountain. A smiling servant child with a ring of flowers in her hair. All flawless and carefully done.
"This is all of them, at least the one I kept." Atalaya said softly, looking at her work. When she glanced up to see his reaction, she caught sight of his eyes again. That intense purple. Immediately, the urge to paint came on. To capture those dark gems forever in paint. But she couldn't ask to paint him, could she? She wasn't even suppose to paint. And it would be dishonest to paint him without his permission, wasn't it?

User ImageAmazement showed clear on Rizeh's face as he gasped a little, looking at the first painting she had taken out. He had been more than right about her colors, each one so vivid and breathtaking. The entire painting stole his breath away and it was not until she had put seven paintings on the bed that he did breath again. Carefully, he looked closely at each one, his fingers hovering just over them, wanting to feel them too but not daring. He stopped short at the last painting, the one of a little servant girl with flowers in her hair. She reminded him so much of his own sister though this girl looked so much happier. He could remember when his sister had been just as happy.. It pained him to know that her smile was probably gone forever though he tried his best to keep her from the worst of everything. The painting somehow gave him hope that it would return though and his smile was back, replacing the sorrow he had not realized he had let show in his eyes. "I have a little sister who looks very much like this girl." he said quietly, his hand still hovering above it. Finally, he tore his eyes from it to look at all the others again. "All of these are so wonderful madam.. I-.. I simply can not destroy them. I do not see why you must not paint anyways. You have such skill at it.." he told her in slight wonderment, not even realizing what he had said at first. Once he did though, he looked over to her, startled. Why had he told her about his sister at all? And then he had outright said that he did not think he could follow the Lady's order for him to destroy the paintings.. Of course, he had hinted at it earlier, let her known discretely, but it was a whole different thing to say it directly out loud. Strictly speaking, he was already defying orders but he hoped that Atalaya would not see him as bad for it. Surely she could see why he could not destroy them? To make matters worse though, he found himself staring at those beautiful, gem-like green eyes again. He could not help that either though in way; something there trapped him, entrancing him and making him forget for a moment that he was not supposed to look. He remembered soon enough though and quickly looked back down to the paintings, trying to hide his eyes again behind his he hair.

Atalaya watched her servant's face as he admired her painting. Those endless purple eyes looking over her work, the look of amazement on his face. Butterflies took to flight in her stomach. Rizeh liked her work, genuinely liked it. The noble wasn't sure why that meant so much to her, but it did.
Suddenly, a pained looked took over his face. It was such a startling contrast to his earlier expression. Atalaya followed his eyes to find he was looking at the picture of the servant girl.
She had painted that as a gift for the woman who cleaned her bedchambers with her daughter. The woman, Julia, had found the painting but said nothing so as a thank you, Atalaya painted Julia's daughter. Unfortunately, Julia was fired the next day for spilling water on Lady Pearl's shoes and Atalaya was never able to give her the painting.
Rizeh's smile returned when he spoke about his little sister. The noble girl couldn't help but smile slightly at him. He was incredibly handsome when he smiled, those brilliant eyes shining. How desperately she wanted to paint him! To some how capture the brilliance of those strange eyes on her canvas.
The butterflies got much worse when Rizeh insisted he couldn't destroy her painting. Even when she was retrieving them, knowing full-well he could rat her out and burn her work, some part of her hoped desperately that maybe he wouldn't. And despite the odds, now he was.
This was when Atalaya realized Rizeh was looking directly at her, his beautiful eyes trained on hers. The timid girl felt her stomach clench and breath stop short in her throat. For a moment, they just stood like that, looking at one another in silence.
Just as quickly as the moment came, it left, and Rizeh hid those perfect eyes of his behind his hair.
Atalaya dropped her green eyes to the floor, a flush rising in her cheeks. How was it that this strange boy could make her breath stop short or butterflies appear in her stomach.
Before she knew what she was doing, Atalaya retrieved the picture of the little girl from her bed and was walking over to Rizeh. Pale hands grasping the canvas tight, she offered it to him.
"Please, take this." Her voice was soft despite her bold actions. There was no way she could ever thank him enough for the gift of keeping her work, and he had smiled when he looked at this painting. "For your sister."

User ImageRizeh almost flinched when she moved but when he noticed that she was going to the paintings, he was simply puzzled. His confusion grew as she picked one up and held it out to him, actually offering it to him. For a moment, he did not know what to say to such a gift but he took it very carefully from her fingers, his own just brushing hers for a moment. He looked down to the painting, that same soft smile in place again. He bowed his head, holding the painting very carefully. "Thank you madam.. She will love such a wonderful gift." And maybe it would make her smile again like she used to. Just the thought of seeing that smile again made his own widen a little and he looked back up to Atalaya. "Truly, thank you. If there is anything I can do to repay, please just let me know. And.. thank you for allowing me to not destroy your work. I know that Lady Pearl ordered me to but.. she needs not know you still have them right?" he said a little boldly, smiling at her again, until he realized what it was he had just said and thought about what it could cost him. He felt foolish for saying that, only hoping that the Madam would be kind enough to overlook it. "I mean, they just seem so very important to you and I truly see no harm in you keeping them or your supplies." he said quickly, his soft voice a little breathless with nervousness. Honestly, he had thought he had taught himself better than that and had been fully prepared for this job. However, he was finding himself slipping up quite a few times already, and on the first day. Why? There was just something so entirely disarming about Atalaya that made him start to forget their positions and that was, in his mind, a dangerous thing. If he slipped too badly, he could get fired or much worse and he could not afford to loose this job nor to not be there for his family.

"I should be thanking you." Atalaya replied with a breathless smile. "For saving my work even though you could get in trouble." Her green eyes fell upon her bed and the paintings once more. "They mean so much to me. I just can't thank you enough for this."
The noble looked back up at him, biting her lip. She was on the edge of asking him if she could paint him but the words wouldn't seem to come out. She'd never asked someone if she could pain them before. How does one go about that? Surely, he would turn her down, finding the question strange.
However, the words were falling out, as if of their own accord, before she could call them back, "Would it be alright with you if I painted you?" Immediately, a flush rose from her neck and into her cheeks. "I'm sorry. Never mind. Please forget I asked."

User ImageAtalaya's smile stunned him a bit, making him smile again, an odd automatic reaction. She was so much more beautiful when she smiled. Breathtaking. Those thoughts would probably get him into real trouble but he did not think of that then. In fact, he did not think of much other than her at that moment and how pretty she looked with that smile, her green eyes finally brighter as she looked at her paintings. Then she was looking at him again though, almost shyly he thought. She was obviously trying to say something, maybe a question, but she was biting her lip, a gesture he found looked rather cute on her. He waited patiently, still smiling, his eyes nearly fully exposed. When she finally did ask though it was nothing as he would have expected. "Paint? ..Me?" he said, stumbling over his words a little. "Uhm... I do not see why you would ever wish to paint me but.. you can if you would like to I suppose." he said quietly, a sort of nervousness killing the strength in his voice and turning him an odd sort of weak. He did not know what it meant if someone wished to paint you and he had certainly never been painted before. The thought made him feel a little more nervous, unsure how one even went about that sort of thing. "Just.. think of it as payment for the painting. One painting for another one right?" He was grateful his voice was a little stronger again, his knees feeling like they wouldn't buckle. It was a very strange affect she had on him though he had to admit, he wasn't sure if he really minded it that much.

The noble was more than surprised when he agreed to her strange request. With a small smile, Atalaya began gathering her things together. The other paintings went back into the wardrobe, leaving one blank canvas and her utensils out. As she went about setting up the easel and a chair, the brunette said. "It's your eyes. Why I'd like to paint you I mean. I never seen anything like them." It was probably bold but she felt like Rizeh deserved to know why she wanted to paint him. Once her things were set up, the girl realized he was just standing there. "Oh, here." She pulled a chair from the corner, offering it to him.

User ImageStill unsure of what to do, Rizeh simply stood to the side, watching Atalaya gather her things. For a moment, he thought that perhaps it was wrong to let her paint him, the two alone in her bedchamber with her doing something she was not supposed to and him allowing her to do it even though he had been ordered to destroy everything. When he thought again of the order the prior thought fled his mind. The Lady was being ridiculous and honestly quite harsh. Why should she want to destroy something that so obviously gave her daughter so much joy? That thought only angered him somewhat, strengthening his resolve. If Atalaya wished to paint, then he would help to make sure that she could, and if she wished to paint him, then he would let her. Her sudden comment startled him though and it took a shocked moment for it to sink in and he simply stood there, his lithe muscles tense. He could not even think of how to speak until she broke him from his sort of panicked state. "My... my eyes madam? Why would you ever want to paint them? Do they not.. frighten or disturb you?" He was truly and entirely stunned. Never had anyone said anything even remotely good about them, not even his family who simply overlooked them. They were a curse to him as far as he was concerned, the reason people found to blame him and think him some kind of wicked creature. Still, through his state of confusion, he found himself sitting in the offered chair. "I'm sorry but.. I have just never.. no one has ever thought anything but ill of them. Why would they interest you at all?"
