To Ainsley's surprise, Sam hadn't been inside at all! It seemed that when he ran away he got lost in the twisty roads of the old fashioned neighbourhood. Ultimately though, she was just relieved to know he was okay.
Carefully she stepped down from the porch, her basket still latched in her arm from when she had run away from the haunted house. Although it was still there, all the candy she had gotten prior to it had been emptied onto the floor of the house as she had tried to save Sam from the pumpkin youma. Candy was replaceable, but Sam wasn't. Of course, given the chance to repeat it she would definitely have done it again.
"Okay, but no more haunted houses!" She chirped, padding her way toward him.
They would definitely clear out all of the houses in their neighbourhood of candy, but during the trip, they hadn't gone back around that corner. Better safe than sorry? They already knew the only candy there was their half eaten candy that lay on the floor of the abandoned house. There were plenty of lightly lit, friendly houses on the other streets instead. They went to all of them to make up for the candy loss prior and by the time the two of them had tired themselves out and gotten their fill of candy, they parted ways to go home and sort their loot.
In the end, the most remarkable thing about this night wouldn't be the Halloween costumes they wore or the candy they got but the fukus that had been worn in their absence and the candy that had remained hidden behind the door long after the fight had ended.
