The teen shuttered nervously as he looked to the forest, debating his options once again...But he did not come here to stick to the sides. He took a deep breath and started to walk into the darkness, looking for any signs of the children...Something about a pony floated into his mind for a moment.

B. Plunge into the darkness! For pony the kids!

Chika frowned, unable to choose which direction to pick. the forest really scared her, from antlers to hooves. She could stay on the fringes of the forest, it should have been safer out there, or she could go in deep and look for the kids..

Still frowning, she figured that the kids would have sensed how scary and sinister this place was. It wasn't really likely they would go in too deep. But then again she could always be wrong. "This is so scary.." the female faun whined, rubbing her head as she tried to pick.

Okay okay, Chika was gonna stay on the outskirts of the forest. She was just too terrified of it to go in any further. "I'll just stay out he-here.. It's scary in there." She blushed, starting to look for the kids again.

B. Plunge into the darkness! For pony the kids!

Kobocha wondered into the forest and cautioned herself.

The forest is alive, trying to reachout to her and she let's them. She had to go further or she will never find those kids and get any rest.

Massive shadows made Kobocha stop in her tracks. They were pitch black shadows where you couldn't see anything and while the shadows moved, every time it did, power...strong dark power ripples from them.

Kobocha took a deep and moved forward. If the shadows had taken them, anyone or anything had taken them, they would of moved deeper in to put off anyone who would dare follow after.

Kobocha took a deep breath again...and plunge into the darkness.

A. Stick to the edges.

"Nice choice, little brother," mutters Zuine. "This place gives me the creeps." She shudders and looks around. "Cripes. I really hope they find those kids somewhere else...nobody should go in there."

Terje nods lightly. He'd been hoping the same thing, and can't help but smile at his sister's concern for the little ones. "Let's edge our way around the forest, keep ourselves safe.

B. To the River; the clearing might be safe enough, but no kids should go swimming in the river at this time of night!

Cosworth's ears twitch at the sound of running water. There was not much to see in the moonlight, and he wasn't convinced even small children would be fool enough to play in the water at night. Still, he needed to make sure. It would be crushing to ignore the possibility that the children might have ventured into the dangerous water, only to find out later that was the case.

Cautiously picking his way through the undergrowth, green eyes glinting in the moonlight, the faun follows the sound of the running water, calling out tentatively to whoever might be listening.

"Children, are you there?" His eyes scan the foliage, watching out for any sign of the river. "Please come out if you can hear me."

Round 6

River

The river's current is swift, but a cautious glance reveals no sign of the kids here either. That could be a good thing, considering how dangerous it could be here for a little one. Still, best to be thorough. Upstream, the moonlight was casting its glow on the water below, but something else seemed to shine differently. Were those stepping stones? Maybe the children had tried to cross the river there.

Downstream a ways, the river forks, and on the bank of the side where you're currently standing, a fallen log creates a shadowy place in the moonlight. Hmm...could be worth checking out, right?

Do you...?

A. Head upstream; there seem to be some rocks there in the water. Maybe you can cross to the other side, in case the children had the same idea.

B. Go downstream; near that fork in the river is a fallen log...could be a good hiding place for a child?

=====

Edges of Dragnid

While the evil of the forest still hovers at the edge of your senses, you're sure that it's much less oppressive out here than within the trees. Yet, after a few minutes, you're pretty sure that shadow in the trees...is following you. You pick up speed...so does it. You slow...again, it mirrors your movements. You also notice that in your distraction, you've drifted deeper into the forest...

Without further warning, the creature makes its move, leaping out to bar your path. The thing before you looks like someone took a canine-like creature, and attached porcupine quills to its back. The hackles begin to raise and you see just how sharp they appear in the moonlight.

Uh oh.

Obviously it doesn't want you to continue. But it looks pretty fierce...

What do you do?

A. Fight! I can take some dog-porcupine-thing!

B. Run for it! Oh heck no! I ain't tanglin' with that thing, and likely no kids would have either!

=====

Plunge into Dragnid

The darkness quickly envelops you, and almost immediately, you can barely see your hand in front of your face. The quiet is broken, at first by strange murmurs from all sides, growing harsher and more angry the further you go. Suddenly, a piercing scream cuts through the night, echoing in your ears and masking what direction it came from. You pick up speed instinctively, but this only angers the...something...more, it seems. Impossible shadows dart around you, quick, silent, fearful...closing in...

...

Fortunately for you, you wake next in the Falassion Healing House, being tended by the fae. Hushed and told to stay in bed, you eventually get enough of your questions answered to piece together something about staggering out of the evil forest, babbling about teeth and claws and toxins before passing out and being taken in by the healing fae.

Lucky you. You made it out of Dragnid Forest. Alive.

Game Over.

A. Head upstream; there seem to be some rocks there in the water. Maybe you can cross to the other side, in case the children had the same idea.

Wandering up the stream, Cosworth eyes the rocks that straddle the river. Fears bubble to the surface of his mind, causing him to worry for the well-being of the young ones.

Yet, with long, careful scanning of the area around him, he can find no sign of the children at this point. "Those children probably didn't even come by here." He mutters to himself, relieved that they probably weren't in the drink, annoyed that he still hadn't found any sign of them yet.

Chika gasped, shocked, at seeing such a creature. It was scary enough to make her want to wet her pants! The little faun took a step back when confronted with the dogapine thing. Weird. Who would make such a thing? Or did it just grow naturally here?

Whatever, she didn't care. She had to think quick. Were the kids dumb enough to face this thing? Had they even come across it? If they did wouldn't they have enough sense to run away? Chika looked to her side, picking up a heavy looking branch. It wasn't gonna do her much good, slow her down even.

"Sh-shoo! Go away you big creepy thing!" She fussed at it, backing up and wielding the branch. She was gonna run but she did NOT want it following her. The kids should have been smart enough to get away from this scary thing. Dog-a-pines were a scary evil thing of Dragnid forest right?

It seemed to listen to her for a second as she turned and booked it as fast as she could. Chika wanted as much soil between her and it as she could possibly get.

"Oh boy," says Terje softly. Oh jeez. They definitely should have picked the other forest. "Zuine, throw your shadowdust so we can get away," he whispers.

Zuine raises an eyebrow, eyes locked with the creature. Run? Screw that! With a roar of battle, Zuine casts her shadowdust over the beast and attacks.

Round 7

Head Upriver

Even though there are no physical signs to confirm suspicions, you decide to cross the river and examine the opposite bank, just to be certain. Carefully, you make your way out onto the first rock. So far, so good. Then the second, then third, noting that the wet stones seem much more slippery than they first appeared.

A stumble and a splash confirm this observation moments later. Ugh...you caught yourself before falling completely in the drink, but not before your hoof and half your leg got drenched. Lovely.

More care is taken in finishing the crossing, which was completed without further incident. The bank is quiet, much like the rest of the landscape tonight, however, something seems odd...like, someone is watching you. You can feel the eyes on you...from somewhere nearby...

A rustle in the bushes! There...at the edge of the trees...

Do you...?

A. Rush the bushes and take whatever's in there by surprise!

B. Slip off to the side and try to sneak up behind whatever might be in there.

=====

Run Away!

Apparently, the creature was puzzled by the tossed branch long enough to let you get some distance from it before it thought to chase you. Or perhaps you running in the other direction had been its goal all along. Maybe it went to fetch the branch.

In any case, the beast was left in the darkness as you fled back towards the safety of the forest's edge. In your haste, you never noticed that gnarled root seeming to reach up from the ground for your hoof.

As these things go, the fleeing damsel is sent sprawling to the ground, but unlike the old horror stories, no murderous beast leaps upon you. Instead, your eyes focus on the ground in front of your nose...and the light footprints found there. They're faint, and you lose track of them from time to time, but some Pae was definitely through here...they're not the prints of any beast of Dragnid, that's for sure!

Just then, a piercing scream cuts through the air from somewhere nearby.

Do you...?

A. Try to follow the footprints, even though they're slightly confusing and some are hard to make out...that scream could be something in the forest trying to trick you.

B. Follow the scream...even if it's a trap, you have to risk it, if instead it could be the kids.

=====

Attack!

The area is covered in shadow, and an epic battle breaks out in the darkness. All is chaos and fighting, cries of anger and pain, confusion and disorientation...

When the shadow dust settles, the pair of Pae are left panting, and the beast is gone. However, the brave warriors are sporting a few new 'decorations' in the form of ornamental quills. Pierced deep in the skin in a number of places, the quills are discovered to be barbed. No pulling those out.

Is that...starting to swell? Uh oh...

Off to the Healing House for you, before you both swell up like a couple of balloons. You'll not be helping any more tonight, not like this.

Game Over.

Mene has been eliminated.

Chika gasped, falling face first into the ground. How was that even possible? She groaned a bit, rubbing her head as she noticed the footprint. It was.. weird to find something like that here, in the night. Maybe the kids had gone through here, it was too shallow to have been a heavier pae or even an adult..

She got up, dusting herself off a bit when a blood curdling scream pierced the air. Forgetting her senses, Chika started running towards the sound. Even if it wasn't the kids, she had to help whatever it was that made that noise. For the moment, she didn't care that she was still so close to dragnid forest, she just wanted to help who or what made that scream.

B. Slip off to the side and try to sneak up behind whatever might be in there.

Cosworth eases his leg out of the water and quietly heads for the other bank. Whether it was something dangerous in those bushes, or the children, it would do him no favours to startle it.

Cautiously working his way around the bushes, Cosworth tries to get a look at it, his green eyes scanning for movement around him. Perhaps it was the kids... If there was something here that meant him harm, it would have pounced by now.

Maybe.

Wrap-Up

Follow the Scream!

The scream was loud and piercing, seeming to hang on the air. Faun ears are sharp though, so even when the sound faded, you still have a good general idea of the direction it came from. Closing in the area, you find yourself scanning not only for the source of the sound, but for any possible danger. Curse this evil forest!

That's when something darted out of the forest and you brace yourself for the incoming attack...

...only to look down and see a trembling child clinging to one of your legs.

User Image

Through her panic, you manage to understand that she and her friend were separated when they were startled by a dark shape, and that she ran this way and got lost in Dragnid. She must have spotted you coming and run to meet a friendly-looking face. In any case, it's probably best for you both to hurry up and get out of this forest before anything else happens!

Congratulations, Umi and Chika! You found one of the children! Please send a PM with a name to Guardian Iris!

=====

Sneak up on the Bushes

No matter what's in there, you're going to take it by surprise...

As you near the bushes, something shuffles about in there, making quiet noises. It can't possibly be any sort of predator, at least not a very good one, the way it makes that much noise. Still, on a night like tonight, best not to relax too much. Play it safe.

Nearly on top of the bushes now, you catch a glimpse of something silvery glistening in the moonlight. Something light-colored, reflecting the light of the moon above. Suddenly, you notice a pair of blue eyes staring back at you. Within moments, a small child has leapt from the bushes to cling to your leg.

User Image

The boy begins rambling about shadows and scary things startling him and his friend, sending them running in opposite directions. Hopefully she's safe, but he's glad someone found him as well, since he'd been wandering around for a while and wasn't really sure where he was anymore. Probably a good time to rejoin the others and let them know he'd been found.

Congrats Doof and Cosworth! You found the other child! Please send a PM with a name to Guardian Iris!
