"Good, you can babysit," Dinah said gruffly as she passed the older rider and he addressed her. She was done with these sharding Weyrlings, especially that goldrider - she sure hoped the other one was better! At least now if something happened to the group, the older dragonrider would be held responsible, which made it less imperative she find the Weyrlingmaster. Oh, she fully intended to let him know that his Weyrlings were idiots, but there wasn't as much reason to hurry.

Instead, she and Dinahsk tracked off in the direction the other handler pair had gone in hopes of joining up with them, much to the young wher's delight. It was always better not to be alone! She started to vocalize her excitement, but a touch from Dinah quieted her. They were all listening hard for noises, and the less distraction, the better.

Oh come on, Dezimine! Larth's says the right side. Let's go explore with Larth and His! Microth was much more eager now that things were happening. And that strange sound again peaked her interest. She had finally determined that Sunnath's was most likely scared and lashing out at Hers and others. Which the green did not like, but could not fault anyone for being scared. Bumping her head against her bonded's side, Microth crooned softly when Dezima's hand starting rubbing her headnobs again.

Dezima glanced at Brynja, nodding slowly. "Y-yes. I think." She'd heard something else then? The greenrider didn't know whether to be encouraged into exploring with new twists added in, or more creeped out. "The right fork?" Well, between her dragon and the presence of her roommate did make her feel better about the earlier snapped remarks she'd received. "Well let's head right then." Dezima didn't care if any of the others there wanted to follow, but if Brynja said she thought the right fork was the correct way, that was good enough.

The arrival of another, a brownrider, earned a small smile. At least he was nice. Even a little humorous. He seemed to agree with Brynja's choice as well. Glancing at her friend, Dezima tugged the other girl after the brownrider, not wanting to get left behind. Or stuck alone with Kindra, who she was going to avoid if possible. It still bothered her the other girl had snapped. Microth agreed that this was probably a wise choice, but she was much more excited and focused on the fact they were exploring now!

"K'en, Stromath, good evening," N'mol greeted as the other Bronzerider weyrling approached. The mind-voice of Stromath startled N'mol slightly, but he only raised his eyebrows attentively as he looked at the little Bronze. Back in their room, N'mol felt Tyeth rumble slightly in greeting and then felt it change to an attentive, but brusque coolness as Stromath addressed all of them. It seemed Tyeth would listen to another of his rank, but didn't necessarily agree with Stromath's assessment of the situation.

Excellent points, Stromath. However, I must point out that ours are capable enough that it is unlikely they will be injured. So long as we're assisting them, I'm certain they will find the solution to this mystery quickly and minimize any sort of backlash that may... hinder their performance tomorrow. His tone sounded faintly doubtful, as if he didn't think His could perform badly.

Tyeth paused as a Brownrider suddenly appeared, then smoothly continued, There. A full dragonrider to supervise. The Weyrlingmaster cannot complain we were taking risks, necessary or not, and if something happens there will already be an authority figure present.

Privately, to N'mol, Tyeth added, I don't understand why everyone is so concerned with you being out of bed. Of course you will perform to top standards tomorrow and of course you will not allow yourself or the other riders to be injured. Aside from the damage to our reputation in the weyr, it would take silliness to cause an accident just walking through the halls. I cannot imagine Stromath's rider would do so poorly either.

N'mol, for his part, smiled at F'itz's arrival and approved of his coming along. Tyeth's comments only made the smile deepen. His dragon had a steady head on his shoulders, and N'mol tended to agree with him, on all counts. "Thank you, Rider F'itz."

He didn't detach himself from Kindra as they continued on their way, following the right-hand tunnel, but he was drawn to a stop when another moan floated out to the group, faint but audible. N'mol looked to F'itz, to be sure the older rider had heard the sound, then looked to his silent partner, Kindra.

Kindra was the only one who seemed to notice that the moan had been prefaced by the faint sounds of something scraping against the rock, as if a person was dragging something heavy against the stone floors or walls of the hallways.

N'mol seemed to sense that Kindra had not returned her attention to the group as soon as the moan had ended. "What is it, Kindra?"

Nyosh quickly found herself smiling again as she walked with Nyossk. She had been so lucky to get a cheerful beast. Her eyes tried to make out the dark shape of the wher next to her. "Anything Nyossk?" Nyossk peered up the tunnel ahead of them. To her it looked utterly deserted. She gave the ahead ok to Nyosh, then checked behind them. Behind them! She could just barely make out something... coming. Then the voice of the younger wher reached her. Nyossk trilled a welcome and encouragement until a soft hand on her hip quieted her too. They weren't alone!

Her smile broadened as she caught the thought images from her wher. So the goldrider had driven off the other pair too. That was all the better for them! She turned to face back down the tunnel and wait. It would be a good easy test to see if the young one could track them all the way. Of course, Nyossk had given them a clue too.

Kindra had stopped at the moan, when she realized it had been accompanied by another, strange dragging sound she cling a little tighter to N'mol, because she'd linked her arm in his she was unable to withdraw the knife from the pocket of her robe. She suddenly felt very vulnerable, despite the others in close quarters. She was more than glad Suunath was asleep and didn't catch her fear, she had tested their link almost immediately after hearing the moan and the scraping and she received nothing but slumbering dragon. "I...I don't know N'mol, there was another sound.... something against rock i think, it must be in the hallways" she said, her voice quavering a little as her grip tightened and drew herself closer to the Bronzerider, half intentionally flirting, half because she was afraid now and wanted to be close to someone and she was very glad she was clinging to someone her own age.

F'tiz paused at the bone-chilling moan and pursed his lips. What was it? The young gold rider seemed to have picked up on something more - it was a testament to how much this mystery preoccupied the brownrider that he didn't even blink at her being cuddled up with N'mol - and as she spoke the adult rider's brows knitted. Moaning. Scraping on rock. What was happening? He hated the unknown, he really did.

Well, yes, something like that. F'itz wished abruptly that he had a sword with him and, come to that, more than a passing idea of how to use one. "We must press on," he said firmly, "and form a defensive ring around Kindra. It might not sound nice, but the simple fact is that she is worth more than any of the rest of us and we must keep her safe at all costs." The future of the Weyr lay with the twinned golds. If one of their riders came to harm while he was around... what the Weyrleader would do to him couldn't hold a candle to what he would do to himself.

Brynja grinned with pleasure that the older rider - F'itz - had remembered her name, and was quickly reassured by Larth that of course he remembered her name - she was his rider after all, and if no-one had remembered him he would not be happy. She was distracted by the short squabble this provoked, and didn't actually move until Dezima grabbed her and pulled her after her, Larth - who had still been sort of leaning against her - nearly falling over and scrabbling for a moment before regaining his balance and pretending that he meant to do that.

Ohh, Kindra was getting on her nerves now, though, clinging to N'mol like that and sending her voice all wobbly. If gold riders were supposed to be people who were born to lead, then why was she just clinging to him like that? Maybe she wasn't going to be outright critical, but that was kind of pathetic. Form a defensive ring her arse - what she needed was a swift boot up the backside and an order to stand on her own two feet, but that was probably out of the question.

Still, do as the nice rider said. He was a grown-up and probably knew what he was doing... even if she doubted anyone wanted to kill Kindra. Slap some sense into her, maybe...

She tugged her hand out of Dezima's with a smile (and a roll of her eyes - Brynja was not scared in the least) for her roommate, resting it on Larth's withers - he had double-marched to catch up - the pair of them wandering around to the left side of the group in a 'defensive ring'. Or something.

"Might be someone with a carving knife" she offered innocently, Larth rolling his eyes. "Dragging it against the walls... waiting for innocent blood to stain his blade... orrrrrr it might just be something totally innocuous"

Kindra shuddered, she was glad that F'itz was paying attention to the noise... or was she? .. the added scraping being affirmed by the grown rider made it that little bit more real and despite the weyrlings their dragons and the adult rider, Kindra felt very exposed. She was embarrassed that F'itz ordered the others to circle her but she was grateful, if Kestril's murdered had the guts to murder her, it would be nothing to grab Kindra and get rid of another Goldrider.

She turned on Brynja with a look that could almost literally freeze your insides solid. "How dare you make such a joke" she said, with only the slightest glimmer of fear in her expression that she couldn't keep back "Kestril was murdered not that long ago ... and you're making jokes about people scraping carving knives against walls... just..... grrrr" she snapped then closed her eyes, sagging a little. She was so tired and while she wouldn't admit it, she was scared too but she wasn't about to give up now and go back to her bunk... oh no, the safest place right now was with the others. However she did wake Suunath up, so that the gold was on alert should anyone come by her Weyr, to which Suunath had a few choice words for Kindra being so stupid as to leave her behind and alone, still.. the Gold kept an eye out and stayed awake, checking on her Twin every now and then.

((With your next post roll one d100! I will check back after work and post up the next cluuuuuuuue! Oooooooooh!))

"Whatever it was must have been far off, since the rest of us missed it. I'm sure whatever made the sound is no immediate threat."

N'mol thought he had a fairly good grasp of Kindra's personality now. She wasn't exactly shy about showing it. Well, hopefully as she learned how to be a Goldrider she would learn how to control her temper and use it for the good of the weyr, as Kestril had done. It was gratifying to know that an out-Weyr rider like Kindra would be so protective of their former Weyrwoman, but it seemed like any comment made sent her into a rage, so it might just be that the carving knife comment was the flavor of the moment.

"That sounds like a good plan," N'mol agreed with F'itz. Of course, he was already linked to Kindra so he didn't have anywhere to go, but he looked to K'en afterward. "Has Stromath sensed anything dangerous?"

The trill from Nyossk helped immensely, as did the fact that Dinahsk wanted very much to find the other green. She made one brief wrong turn, but quickly realized the mistake - soon enough, the other pair was in sight, and Dinah couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. Her fellow greenhandler was sure to be much better company than a bunch of bratty Weyrlings, right?

"Sharding kids," the brunette grumbled, "Got tired of them." Nevermind that she was barely more than a teenager herself, she was certain she was infinitely more mature.

Dinahsk chortled happily at the older wher, waggling her spaded tail.

"Let us hope it is something innocuous," F'itz said mildly, turning to give Brynja a steady stare.

the brown replied before the sentence could even be finished, reaching out for Larth's mind as he spoke. He was a little perturbed by the jest himself, simply because a Man with a Knife was one one of the endless possibilities spinning around inside his head. he said softly to his rider,

F'itz replied gently, straining his eyes against the shadows as he moved off once more. Shards. He wished they had more glows with them; he was hardly going blind but he couldn't pretend his eyes were as sharp as they had been twenty turns ago, especially in dim conditions like this.

Nyosh didn't have to wait long as the young pair quickly joined them. "Hello again Dinah! Your Dinahsk didn't take long to find us." She nodded sympathetically about the riders. "They certainly can be full of themselves. I'm glad you decided to come with us." She gave a soft chuckle as she watched the young green. The young were so playful. Nyossk would love this. "Do you want to take lead?" She offered Dinah; it couldn't hurt them to have some experience out of this, plus she was right there to back them up.

Nyossk trilled to the young green. She was so happy to be with her again! They would do good work tonight and make their handlers proud. She bounced in place like a youngling.

Kindra noticed that F'itz seemed to be straining and she, in the middle of the group, held a fairly fresh glow "F'itz, Sir ... i don't 'need' this glow right now ... maybe you should take it?" she offered, trying to ignore Brynja. She hadn't meant to snap like that, in fact, she hated losing her temper and showing others how certain comments affected her but since Impressing Suunath and sleeping alone in their weyr, Kindra wasn't sleeping well and that made her extremely easy to flare up. She leaned against N'mol again, squeezing his arm gently before giving him enough slack should he want to make his way to the head of the group instead. She switched the glow to the hand by N'mol then retrieved her knife from her pocket. If there really WAS someone out there with a carving knife, well ... she had her own and she wasn't about to get caught unawares like Kestril had.

Brynja had taken a little step backwards when Kindra rounded on her, her hands raised defensively with palms out. "Sorry, but hey, it could totally happen, my brother's girlfriend's sister's son-in-law, he - "

Larth interrupted, with a snort and a scrape of a paw. He was not exactly happy about passing on this bit of instruction, but was willing to concede for now. Suunath's had sounded angry enough to strike his, and that could not be borne.

<...Brumath?> She didn't recognise the name as one of the other weyrlings, although maybe she hadn't learned them all properly. Maybe their rider was shy or something...?

Larth said, a little uncertainly.

Oh? Oh! Brynja flushed a little pink (if you could tell, between the low light and her deep tan) under F'itz's look, her hands dropping dejectedly. "Sorry. I'll... shut up now" Her mouth twisted unhappily - not for Kindra's fright, she couldn't care less about that, but... well. She'd keep her stories a little quieter, a little less knife-y for now.

Larth reported back to Brumath, more then a little sulkily. The part of his rider that accepted such authority without much question was not a part he particularly liked, and it was one he intended to change. She had not hurt anyone, nor had she meant anything by it but a joke, and he Did Not Like telling her to be quiet.

Wait, whaaaat?! Dezima blinked over at Brynja owlishly. A carving knife? Dragging it against the walls? Waiting for innocent b-blood?! As if she hadn't been sticking ridiculously close before, she was now almost glued to a certain blue dragon's side, having dragged Microth with her. Oooh Larth better not hold this one against her (or remember it tomorrow for that matter)! The blue would probably be so full of himself because she had to cling to him and her dragon.

Microth on the other hand gave Brynja's words careful consideration. Which was mostly how her bonded was able to drag her over to Larth so easily. The green considered what the others were saying about the previous death. And comparing what they were dealing with now. Microth admitted to herself that some aspects could be similar. But she highly doubted any of it was correct in this case. In fact, it didn't make sense why someone like that would be making so much noise! However by the time the green reached this conclusion and went to say something to her rider, Larth's was already apologizing and keeping quiet now.

Mine, do not worry. We won't let anything happen to you! And ignore Sunnath's. She is frightened. I don't like it when you're upset. She nuzzled against Hers, happy when she gave Larth so space again. A hand stayed splayed along Microth's back though.

Dezima gave Brynja a quick flash of a smile before sticking close to her own dragon this time.
