Lorend found holding a meat bowl, and dealing with a demanding dragonette to be very awkward. "Now you chew that!" She had to glare at the little green, who proceeded to give her 'I'm cute' look. Offering another piece, she heard the commotion as the brown cried out. Someone was coming down from the stands. Lucky dog. Was that blue still there?

Mine! Feed me! A green mouth opened and trilled. She tried to pluck the piece handling from Her's fingers. Food food food. So hungry. Lorend let the piece fall into the waiting mouth. "That blue needs to get a move on." Tribleth pointedly chewed her meat then turned and hissed at the unimpressed blue. She didn't like him! Though he was quickly forgotten as she demanded more meat.

Morbad wasn't sure where to look now. Things were a bit confusing. Dragons stumbling here and there. Candidates moving to meet or avoid them. He spotted one girl coming down from the Stands. The brown wanted her? He shrugged and turned his attention back to the blue.

Kelstar smiled as a green impressed and watched the brown with slight amusement, such clumsy creature, it had evidently found his just not quite where his was. Perhaps it was someone in the stands? Kelstar scanned the crowd but had no luck in picking out the lucky person. He scuffed a foot int he sand and piled some up. He swept a foot across it and smoothed it down. In all the excitement he had completely forgotten about his scratches. He gazed over the waiting eggs and the brilliant queen. A good hatching, a good hatching indeed.

A rather large egg not too far from the golden queen slowly began to rock. There was so much going on outside, it could feel it! Now it just had to get outta this shell. Each rock brought more and more cracks until the egg fell over on it's side.Well, this was not good. With one last violent rock a brown shoved through the shell, shaking the shards from his body, eyes turned towards the candidates. A few steps were taking towards the girls, eyes whirling as he studied each one. Of course, he was a rather large brown so it wasn't surprising that several girls seemed to back away from him. However, he didn't seem to mind very much at all and continued to move through the girls before he snorted in annoyance. Where was his? They were not here! Eyes began to whirl faster as he pushed past candidates.

This wasn't right. His should've been here. The brown's head quickly shot to the boys section. A growl came from the hatching and he whipped his tail against the sand. There she was! Hurrying as fast as he could, the brown made his way to Iaman's side. Why were you over here mine? I have been looking for you! Iamanamine, I am your Wookith! I shall never leave your side again. The brown's nose was pushed against the girl's side as he nuzzled against her. Come now, I hunger!

Another small egg burst, revealing a blue dragonet. This hatchling, unlike several of his siblings, seemed in rather a hurry to get to his. He ignored the boys, and ran straight for the girls. He tripped once or twice, pausing only briefly to sulk (or was it sulking? Could a dragon sulk?), and continued. He needed to get to Mya!

He bumped into one or two of the girls in the middle of the group to get to her, but he didn't seem to notice. In fact, the only thing the hatching seemed to notice was Mya--and he nearly knocked her over in the process.

Myamine! Myamine! Where are you? I found you! Your Kirth found you at last! You were hiding. I struggled to find you. The blue's tone had a whiny sound to it, almost. It seemed to be pleading for attention. Or perhaps he just tended to over-react.

A lot.

Your Kirth is starving. How will we save Pern if I starve? They depend on us, mine!

Two more Impressed and had found Theirs. Mya let the warmth of this overcome her sadness at seeing the young before Between and shifted her foot in the sand a bit as two more came unto yon world.

Eyes lighting at the sight of the large Brown, she smiled as he made another Impression towards her fellow females. Certainly one has to be proud of-

Myamine! Myamine! Where are you? I found you! Your Kirth found you at last! You were hiding. I struggled to find you!

What the?

The near-hysteria tone in her mind gave the blue ample distraction time and sent His tumbling into the sands on her bum with a surprised "Ack!" Standing over her, the slender muzzle prodded her in the stomach almost frantically.

Thankfully it only took her a moment of staring at him in shock before she snapped back to reality.

Your Kirth is starving. How will we save Pern if I starve? They depend on us, mine!

"Easy love." A still hand on his eyeridge calmed him...somewhat. "If you let me up, I can help you get food, yes?"

But-!

"Im no use to Pern and our home getting sand up my robe." He stepped back and Mya stood, pausing only to brush some of the dirt off before motioning Kirth towards the feeding tables. But not without a gentle smile that seemed to sooth the frantic dragon.

Iaman found his attention focused on another egg that began to rock. It was almost mesmerizing, the way it rocked back and forth, rhythmically, moving more and more each time... until it fell over, still whole. He shook his head, a smile forming on his lips. Another violent rock, and the egg cracked, and broke, and fell into pieces. The rather large brown shook himself, and Iaman almost laughed; he looked a little like a canine when he did that.

He seemed to know where he was going, as he headed directly for the group of girls. Yet, his was not among them, apparently, for he examined and passed by each one of them, looking for his. He let out a huff of frustration as he moved through the group, girls parting on either side to let the not un-intimidating brown through.

Then he growled, and flicked his tail, and turned his head; and his eyes met Iaman's. A quiet gasp slipped from Iaman's lips as the brown hurried over to him. Why were you over here mine? I have been looking for you! Iamanamine, I am your Wookith! I shall never leave your side again. He pushed his nose into his side, almost knocking him over. Iaman knelt down by him, wrapping his arms about the brown's solid neck. Amazement and awe were written clearly on his face. Come now, I hunger!

He didn't notice the other hatchling, or his Impression, as he walked off the sands with Wookith. You know. You called me Iamana. ...Will you tell anyone?

I speak to no one but you, Mine. Iamana... I'man. I'mana. You can be either. Hurry now, I am very empty. He smiled, and his steps gained confidence, surety, as they left the Hatching Ground.

Mine! Tasryn mine, did your Ankith hurt you? Eyes quickly changed colors as the dark blue nosed at the girl in worry. I am sorry! I only wished to test you. Now, I hunger. I will not wait for Luth. I will eat his, too. Tasryn could only stare at the hatchling how had saw fit to attack her. This one..was hers? However, just one look into his eyes and she all but melted. How could she be mad at him for too long? A broad smile pulled at her face and she reached out her un-bloodied hand to stroke his head. "Of course, we'll feed you right away!" With a quick nod, she turned and almost stumbled once or twice while leading the blue away from the sands. Eyes were wide as she lead the young blue to where the Weyrling Master had set things up. She could wait to see a healer, Ankith's hunger was much more important to her.

In fact, the pain was not longer at the front of her mind. Yes, it still hurt. Her shoulder throbbed and she could feel the stickiness of the blood on her skin, but..she had Impressed. Hers was with her. As soon as she had been directed towards the meat, she grabbed a pail and all but fell to the floor. Her legs just couldn't hold her up anymore, so much had happened in such a short time. Are you okay mine? The blue nosed at her again and the brunette finally reached out to touch that gorgeous hide. "Of course, lovely. I have you now." A smile was offered before she started grabbing a few pieces of meat. She couldn't let her lovely go hungry. Ah, but not too much now.

Eyes shifted over to the sands and she tilted her head. What was going on? Was everything going okay out there? All of a sudden Ankith's head was turned in the same direction and a horrible noise filled the air. What happened?! A frown pulled at her lips and she reached out to stroke her new lifemate's hide. She's gone. The blue's eyes were whirling in distress. Oh no! Amber eyes widened and she automatically slid her arms around the blue's neck. A way to comfort him and to reassure herself that he wouldn't be going anywhere. But the hatchling pushed her away and prodded her to go back to feeding him once more. He was so hungry! Rolling her eyes in amusement, she returned to feeding him once more. "Not too much now, you don't want to get fat!"

Ankith shook his head in disbelief. He would never get fat. Never!

"Well, isn't that interesting?" The red head was currently resting against Servith's leg, a wide grin plastered on her face as she watched the hatching proceed. "Now I'm not the only female brownrider!" A'lin had to keep herself from letting out an excited whoop the moment the rather tall female had Impressed. And from the stands! Servith, however, wasn't as excited. It does not matter, mine. I will show them all who is the best brown in this Weyr. Well, so far Servith was certainly the biggest brown. He was bigger than several of the bronzes and the red head certainly had trouble giving him baths. There was just so much of him. "Yes, you'll always be the best dragon in all of Pern! To me at least." Giggling at the dragon's snort, her eyes went back towards the sands. 'Hard to believe it's been so long since we were down there.' She could still remember standing there, thinking she'd be left there all alone. But Servith had shown up, proving to her that she would never be alone again.

I do not remember that day. The brown's face moved to nuzzle against his rider's body briefly before he returned to his original position. Well, it didn't matter if he remembered it or not. A'lin would remember it for the both of them! Chuckling to herself, she tried to shift her attention back to the candidates. "I wonder which one of them will be getting the queen!"

Kelstar smiled as people impressed. This was good, no one was going between now, they were all finding theirs. Kelstar's blue eyes glowed with warmth and he felt like he glowed from within. Hatchings were such exhilarating things and he loved them. Kelstar watched the gold dragon, he wondered what went through a golds mind during a hatching. This was certainly a day for thought, he wondered if the vain creature from the touching had hatched yet.

Lorend finally gave up on watching the Hatching. She could see them as they came over. That would be better than stop feeding her hungry dragon. Tribleth! She'd Impressed. There would be countless more pranks to be pulled.

Tribleth trilled each time she got a piece of meat. When Hers took too long with the next piece she let out a loud squawk. She was hungry! As soon as the piece was presented she crooned happily.

Morbad stayed out of the way, as more dragonets hatched and searched for theirs. He found he could tell who'd Impressed before they said anything by the expression on their face. It was like the sky had opened and the sun beamed down upon them. He wondered if there was a stone in which he could catch that scene. Perhaps tigerseye would do.

The blue resting on the sands stood quite suddenly. His eyes had become a worried, whirling yellow. Was his here? Was his here? Where was his? He stretched briefly, arching his back, stretching out his tail. He was in no hurry to get to the boys, it seemed, though the concern in his eyes said otherwise. He studied each boy carefully, and stared at each for what seemed like a long, long time.

Unlike the hatchling's clutchmates, this blue seemed gentle. There was nothing hasty or violent about his actions. Curiosity, however, was another matter.

H'denmine! I have come for you at last! Did I worry you? Your Ewoth is sorry! So sorry! Mine? Your Ewoth is very hungry. Come now, let us eat.

Not too far from Ewoth and Hayden--H'den now, another egg started to rock and crack. A tail burst through the egg, revealing a brown. A brown! The dragonet within seemed to make no other attempt to escape from the egg.

Kelstar thought that the brown had chosen a rather interesting way to enter the world if not a very effective one. A lot of the candidates had been carted off by their dragons and still not another had gone between, this was excellent news and he was sure that the harpers would be talking about it for a long time to come. There were still eggs on the sands though and Kelstar watched.

Kafi stood a ways from the others, watching with a slight smile. Part of her wondered if Nati would impress. She hoped the boy would though she wondered if she had impressed at all. After the Touching, she had decided to do her best if she impressed. She would not be what her parents became.

A little bit away from Kafi was Nati, the boy was smirking. As usual his smirk was a mask that hid his anxiety about being a rider. He watched as some of the eggs hatched.

In the stands however was Kaila, smiling and quietly cheering on the candidate. She was also sat away from her brother, not sure if he was still mad about her impressing. She liked having Maith around, the green cheered her up a lot.

R'mera sat near the back of the stands, watching the eggs hatch and the candidates. His blue was resting at the moment, but his eyes sent to Kaila's back sometimes.

Morbad shifted from foot to foot. The sands were getting hot underfoot. He glanced back at the feeding tables where those already paired had gone. It fascinated him, the change on their face when they realized. Well not as much as his gems did. He wanted this to hurry so he could get back to the one was working on.

(ooc: Ack, I'm late again! D: At least I've posted now!)

Tolin had been having a lovely dream prior to being woken for the hatching. Unfortunately, he couldn't for the life of him remember what it was. Something about flying, maybe. He got up with little trouble, especially since he had a knack for being instantly awake when necessary, so knew what was going on as soon as he wasn't sleeping.

Upon arriving at the hatching grounds, he listened to the candidatemaster, and dutifully bowed to the dragons and riders in turn, and then faced the eggs.

Well, this was a daunting occasion. Tolin knew about hatchings...he even got to watch one once when he got to travel with the guildhall master. The 'touching' ritual before was surreal enough, but now the objective was to bond with one. Briefly, as he stood at the edge of the hatching grounds, he was frozen, terrified: What if the 'bonding' screws with your head? Changes who you are? Isn't that kinda like being killed and replaced with somebody else? The fear--which wasn't going away--did not hold him in place for very long.

He made it this far, he decided, whatever happens happens, and he would do his best! "I am not afraid," he muttered, just in time to witness assaults on other candidates. That helped him feel not afraid...oh yeah. But fear is good for you, he knew. Keeps you safer; fear is just the reminder to not be stupid. He had prudently stayed out of the way of slashing claws and angry maws. That one green vanished into nothing was not lost on him, but now was not the time to reflect upon the sadness of that...so he put it out of his mind, and focused on the now: Find a dragon, make friends with the dragon.

A brown! That's a possibility...but, nope, it jumped into the stands to be with that one cheeky boy. He shrugged. Maybe a bronze? A small bit of worry crept into his mind again. He had hesitated, and ended up behind other candidates...what if that meant he wouldn't impress? He shook his head once at this, and pushed his way closer to eggs yet hatched. By what he'd seen, and what he'd been told, it didn't seem like being the first one there really mattered, but still...it felt like he was doing something to get up closer.

Not unlike many of the candidates, Hayden had been excited. He'd awoken during the night with eyes wide and pulse racing, his heart feeling as if it'd swell straight out of his chest. The hatching was soon! Well, a night away might not seem soon enough for some - but for Hayden it was plenty. It would be the first Hatching that he would attend, and there was so much to do!

As usually happened when the young former-apprentice harper was excited, he retrieved his lute and went outside to compose. Plucking softly at the strings and singing just above a whisper, so as not to wake those sleeping in the Weyr - he began singing a ballad, just off the top of his head - about the brave Candidates and the strong Weyrleader. Of course, once he mentioned T'rel, the song steadily took on a more somber tone as he gave tribute to the deceased Weyrwoman. Then the tune became stronger and steady in its repetition as he sang of the strength of the dragons and the skill and dedication of their riders. By the time he was standing on the hatching ground later that morning, his heart was racing with anticipation.

Many of the other Candidates were anxious, scared, or worried that they wouldn't Impress. Half of Hayden hoped that he would be lucky enough to Impress someday, but he wouldn't dare to hope that it would happen at the first Hatching he attended. There were so many others who deserved a chance at being a dragon rider before him - and so many who had been at the Weyr for far longer. The Hatching Ground was bursting with emotion. Of course there were those who had Impressed and were now joyously leaving with theirs to get food. Then there was the green who had vanished between, and Hayden was one of the many who couldn't hold back his tears at the heart-wrenching sound of her cry.

For a moment, he was mostly oblivious to the blue who rested on the sands. He'd had to wear his patch today, to shield his injured eye from the bright morning sun, and to hide the fact that he'd hardly slept the night before. But as he finished wiping the tears from under the patch, he spotted the blue moving from one male candidate to the next, calmly studying each one. He seemed curious, but gentle, and the golden-haired boy felt his heart skipping with joy when the blue addressed him by his new name.

H'den immediately knelt and put his hand on the young dragon's head reassuringly, smiling widely and almost goofily with near-disbelief. "No, I wasn't worried. I'm - I'm so happy. Of course you're hungry! We'll go get food and you can eat as much as you want."
