The Goddess was gone?! This was pretty much the last thing that she wanted to hear. "The Goddess is GONE?!" She cried as she bound back into the centre of the group. "How do you know this?! How has this happened?!" All this shouting and screaming wasn't going to be doing anyone any good, but she couldn't help it. It's all very well saying that we have each other, but inside, she had never felt so alone.

Again, she looked around for a family member or a friend that she could find comfort with. It suddenly occured to her that she didn't have any friends at all apart from her Muses, and her family were no where to be seen. Feeling utterly helpless, she flopped into a sitting position, her head lowered. "I...I'm sorry." She whispered between breaths, as she attempted to calm herself.

As he appeared, it seemed that the complaints became more personalized. It was unfortunate that he hadn’t had more time to get to know the pride as closely as he would have liked before the little god had arrived to strip them from their insanity. For the story-keeper, his muse had been himself. Another voice in the back of his head that spoke to him at one time as clearly as any of the others spoke currently. But that other-self was gone, completely gone. For him, it was a blessing, for the rest of the pride it seemed to be a curse. Many were in panic, others had a glazed look in their eyes.

The first to address him was a young female named….Tiktok? Other-self had been better at remembering names than he was. Seemed her trouble was with her feet- a strange muse but considering his other-self having been his, it wasn’t too far-fetched. “Calm down, Tiktok, just take a seat. Deep breaths. You can dance without anyone telling you how.” At least- he hoped so. He was hardly a dancer himself and in his travels he’d not met any lion who had enjoyed the art form. Then again- other-self might have remembered that where he might have been off in his own world at the time.

Then came outright panic. Another lioness piped in, her eyes wide and her posture uncertain. Next came a male with a head of ginger-colored mane. Others were calling out for their muses, begging for their return. A whisper, a thought, a vision- anything. It seemed just about the only individual in the crowd that was keeping its calm was a small dusty brown male. Smaller than most adolescents were and crowned only with a patch of mane along his head and shoulders. While not a full mane, it was a good deal longer than a mane should have been.

He grimaced as Ame addressed him directly. Shifting a glance her way he shook his head. “I don’t hear him.” It was the very first time she would hear his true voice- not the deep, angry voice of the other-self and not the withdrawn, timid voice of ‘him’. It was one voice, confident but a little unsettled.

He took a step forward and let loose a loud, booming roar. They couldn’t address this one at a time, not in this gathering. Perhaps in the coming weeks they could pull each pride member aside and discuss their special situations with them, but here the group needed to have some stability.

“The muses are silent- that seems to be what’s happened. Listen- all of you. This is not the end of the world. The muses have fallen silent, yes, but that does not mean that we have lost ourselves. This is our home-“ He leveled his gaze on the ginger-male that had spoken up earlier. “We have no reason to abandon it now. There is no danger to us, not right now.”

He glanced over to Ame and dropped his voice once more. “That godling…do you think this is his doing?”

The more she looked around, the more Kali realized just how desperate everyone around her seemed to be feeling. She couldn’t help but to feel glad that the creepy whispers had stopped but the expressions around – of sadness, of grief, of fear – were impossible to ignore. The contagious mood was quick to sober her up and she stepped closer to her family for emotional support.

“They’re all so… sad.” She said quietly, lowering her head a little. “Someone said the Goddess is gone. Is there anything we can do to help?” she didn’t think there was, not really. But she still looked around helplessly as if hoping to find something to do or someone to console.

"I did not expect us to abandon." He murmured in response, his soft pink eyes lidding lazily as he watched the lord and lady panic a little. He did not envy them - one day fine and dandy; next everyone in a riot ... well almost everyone ... worried about their future without museum without their goddess. Clearing his throat, he sized some of the members up.

"To most of us, this is the only home we've known, so we'll need a better option. Maybe we should start something..." he trailed, before the lady piped up, his eyes lowering to the ground, as he backed up slowly out of the limelight he felt was still following him.

"No alteregos or voices here, you ladyship, but the music that drown my ears has never lifted. Same old song and dance." He finally admitted, expecting to be plagued with questions. it felt a little unnerving.

The night had ended normal, and when he woke up... Things had been... Off. Xochipepe had stepped from his den, stretched, and turned to greet the flowers that grew next to it... But they'd failed to greet him. Were they mad? Had he missed a watering? He always found the best water for his little flower patch..

As the tawny-gold lion made his way through the lands, he soon found everybody gathered. And then he'd heard the news... Their muses... They were gone. Fallen silent... Muhali had left, and some other god had stepped in... The male thought about it for a moment, then decided... While he'd miss his flowers and the way they sang, they were still very lovely to look at. He walked over to Shandor, some unknown emotion reflected in his eyes. "If we have a change in gods... Should we have a change in ways, too? To protect ourselves?" What COULD they do to protect themselves?

Pushing through everybody, Ulimwengo did her best to just hear herself THINK. She hadn't felt a particularly close bond with her own muse, as it was so rare to see, but that didn't mean she was any less upset at their loss. And all this NOISE..! Ears back, she stopped, feeling something bump into her leg. She looked back, spotting her oldest son. "Why do you insist on sticking so close to me as if you were BLIND? Back of a little!"

The juvenile sat down, his own ears back, though for a whole other reason. "I'm sorry, Momma..." He shifted, one ear twitching. While he was young, he'd found even just a bit of a muse... And now it was gone, before he'd fully bonded with it. There was no finding it again... And he found he didn't care much. Nerio let out a sigh, then made a snap decision. He'd go back to his cub name. He'd be Dante again... And Nerio no more. Red eyes glanced at his ever-angry mother, before he got up, going to find any one of his siblings.

Finally, the loud noise got too much to Uli, and she found something to jump up on top of. Drawing in a breath, she let out a loud roar, trying to find silence within the noise, to CREATE order out of the chaos, if only for a moment.

It didn't seem there were many of the pride left that could hear the muses. One big lion admitted he could still hear music, but no more voices. Tukuta glanced up again at the clouds and their reassuring background murmur. He didn't know what he'd do if he couldn't hear them! He was about to pipe up and tell Ame that he could still hear his muse faintly, when a black and yellow lioness roared out into the hubbub. Tukuta scampered back, shocked into silence, and noticed a similarly colored cub ((Nerio)) slinking away.

"Hey!" he called quietly after him. "Are you okay?"

...

"If you say so, Shador." Tiktok said, not sounding convinced at all as she continued shaking her paws. The lioness' roar caught her completely off guard, sending her tumbling to the sand, as her paws refused to tell her where to place them. Confound it!

When the stretch of gathered lions grew in number and volume each second, Memeth thought he was going to explode from all of the sounds! This wasn't at all what his nights with the voices were like! At least at night, things talked more in whispers...

But suddenly, a loud booming voice entered the area - ah, it was Shandor! He seemed to have gotten everyone out of their wailing trances and was making everyone settle - scratch that - for as soon as Memeth thought things would calm down, one of the lovely female huntresses he hung out with several times, Tiktok, came right next to him in obvious distress, yelling at their male leader. And if it hadn't been bad enough sitting next to a crying loud female (although Memeth's generally loving personality made him tolerate this to an extent), Tiktok slammed into his side to finally rest there. Well, no - he actually liked that. The least she could do was stop talking about her feet, though...

The least anyone could do was stop asking questions and yelling, too! Couldn't everyone just take things easily? What happened to this pride?

"None of you can hear your muses?" he mouthed to the ones surrounding himself, though the answer was obvious.

It was rather peculiar, for Memeth heard his last night. Of course, he could not hear his at the moment, because it was the moon, and it had vanished hours ago when the sun came. If he had lost that connection, however, he could imagine himself being very, very sad.

Lost in thought amongst all the jabbering, Memeth was also surprised by the sudden roar, as well as the quite physical reaction from the female who had been leaning beside him. His large body, however, was not nearly frail or light enough to budge from the ground, no matter how surprised he felt.

He bent over to help Tiktok to her little cute striped and periwinkle paws, throwing his voice over to the showstopper Ulimwengo, "Now look what you did, dear Uli! Let's all not be so hasty here, the last thing we need is panic and questions over your roar. No matter how good it sounds."

Bukk came stumbling out of no where; his eyes bloodshot and watery. He looked rather panicked and even more so by the gathered crowd. He staggered backwards; his red eyes wide for a moment before he seemed to calm down and he approached with ears lowered.

He hadn't seen his 'father' in days. He could only hear him. It was driving him mad, trying to find him. He blinked around; noticing that everyone seemed upset and distraught. Then someones words caught him off guard 'None of you can hear your muses?'

He looked frightened. It wasn't just his muse, it was his father. HIS FATHER.

Amefungwa frowned. Most of the crowd had settled, though some still were being loud. That was okay, that was acceptable. They had a reason to be upset. Some had come forward, claiming still to hear...something, at least, but those who did were abysmally few and far between. Clearly this was a mass abandonment by the muses, and not any one muse being displeased with one lion.

At Shandor's mumbled question she gave the slightest nod. What else could chase their muses away but the act of a god? She was sure the strange god's intent hadn't been malicious...though at the moment she very much would have liked to get her paws on him to ask him what he'd done exactly.

Someone made a very valid point. Without the goddess, their way of life was effectively altered forever. But what were they to do now? Split up? Join other prides? Stay and hope she returned? Her tail flicked rapidly behind her. None of the options were terribly appealing. But two stood out to her. She motioned for Shandor to silence what chatter there was--his voice was louder by far-- and then spoke again.

"From what I see, we have few options. We can leave our home, this land that has sheltered us for generations, and try to find the goddess...or...We can stay, and make the best of things. Figure out how to live here without our muses. How to take care of ourselves without their guidance. We have always been a pride that acted on the opinions of its members, and so I ask you all; What would you have us do?"

With the official call of silence, Memeth responded with duly attention. Amefungwa had a proposal for the pride, and either option seemed rather extreme.

How could they leave this land..? It had sustained them for years! Memeth had been here for his whole life!.. Well, not his whole life, but a good part of it. He was very much connected to the pride's founding and loved every part of it, including the lovely ladies that were a bonus. There was no telling where their goddess would be - she could even be dead, for all they knew! Memeth thought he was always good at finding girls, but... The goddess would have been a stretch.

He wanted to stay. He loved the trees, the ocean breeze, the cliffs, the caves, and the everything that was a part of his home. Maybe the goddess would come back another day.

"Let's not go on a wild goddess chase," he murmured, "We should stay. We are all family, there is no fear when we have each other."

Ozark sighed grimly, content with Asali against his chest, but worried about the response of the pride to this new development. Most seemed rather distraught by it, but there were others.. others who were delighted to be free of their muses. It was those who made him wary. Previous malcontents now had the means to make drastic pride wide changes while everyone was lost in the confusion. Like lost sheep it was likely the lions who needed the security of something certain would be quick to follow whatever direction they were lead.

Perhaps he would do some deeper searching of his own for the answers to his questions. The spirits already knew more than he did apparently and though he wasn't usually the sort to seek them out for aid--it seemed like no was worse a time than any other.

With a sense of urgency in his tension filled frame Ozark offered his mate a gentle lick between the ears. Stating as calmly as ever. I'm leaving to find more answers. Stay here and find out what you can. I'll try to be quick..

This was a pleasing turn to the ginger maned lion, still holding his ground as he watched the others toss and turn ideas in their heads - liken to a spotlight over him. He couldn't help it, he had to get his feelings out, even if the music would keep him company - rising in tempo as it went. It made him feel a little calmer, but not off track, ultimately.

"I agree with the him," he started, his eyes darting to Memeth, his ears swivelling back as he looked to the Song Keeper once again, "It would be foolish to just abandon what we've already created here. We're just going to have to start a new with what we have. New life with breathe stories into this pride and make it a new land, you know?" Sitting back down, he looked over those who had come together during the morning, his pale eyes watching all of them.

Nisija snorted to herself. Their muses were quiet but they had not lost themselves? Yes they had, she thought to herself. The muses were them, weren't they? Who were they without a muse...

When Amefungwa called out the question, Nisija flinched back into Fiach, and leant more fully against him. It was obvious to her to stay, so she didn't call out, peering instead at her mother, and sister.

Lari shook her head, watching the crowd around her, watching their reaction to the question. "There is a lot to lose if we leave, we should stay," Lari said, agreeing with Memeth, deciding to voice her own opinion. She glanced towards Hiana with worry when her daughter did not immediately agree. She knew Nisija was going nowhere, she was sure, but Hiana...

Hiana's eyes were downcast and she flinched at the question - though not for the same reason that her sister had. Leaving. The option was right there, for her to grasp. She hesitated though, glancng at her mother who was watching her with a slightly sad look. It would likely break her heart to lose another daughter, but it would break Hiana to stay.

"Without my muse, I am free," she said quietly, most to her mother, but she raised her voice to speak to the rest, making excuses to justify her leaving. "I will seek out our goddess if I can, but these lands have no ties to me now." Hiana didn't dare look at her mother, for fear of the hurt she would see on her face.

Memeth surmised that he was not the only one with the same thoughts as... himself. He listened to Wimbaji, one of the males he watched grow up in the pride, as he rang in agreement but in a more profound and poetic way. Ah, little ones always had more interesting things to add to the pride with each passing generation.

He also heard Lari say the same thing, and smiled inside when thinking that at least one other beautiful female would stay with him in these lands. But soon after, he noticed some tensed words come from a younger lioness next to Lari - it was Hiana, the daughter... Who seemed to be leaving? This put a frown on Memeth's face; no pretty face should leave the land, nor should one leave their mother... But he was not one to inspire or promote more tension, and so simply floated over to Lari, in case she needed someone close by for comfort.

"These lands would be sad without the lions that make life on it."

A small smile graced the younger lion's face when he noticed Memeth agree with him once again, his eyes darting around a bit as he finally took a seat again, ears forward once more. It was nice to know there were others in the pride who still were proud to call this place home, even after the muses had left them . . . well most of them.

Lifting his gaze when the young lioness admitted that she felt that the pride had no hold on her anymore, nodding softly to her, his gaze hidden behind a long mane, now misplaced. "I'm sure no one would blame you. . ." he trailed, shrugging in a lion-ish way. "I doubt that we expect everyone to follow us - I'm sure there are some already missing, driven away by the loss of their muses . . . I just hope the best for you." He murmured to her, before looking away - expecting her mother to see him in poor light for agreeing with such a saddening decision.

But . . . who were they to tell her no, she could not have her well earned freedom completely?
