there they were! Kenton could see them through the trees, he had made it. he crashed into the little opening to find Cali standing on the paw of a skinwalker cub. there were injuries, there was blood, but no one seemed to be in immediate danger. he sighed a huge sigh of relief. of course Cali would be able to handle the situation, she was strong, and so was Tin.

Kenton walked up next to Cali and gave her a loving nudge, then looked down at the pathetic little thing at his feet. it was hard to believe that such a little thing could cause so much damage. "answer her question mutt and we will spare you." Kenton did not want to kill the skinwalker...well he did, but not infront of his daughter, not infront of Cali. actually it was the first time that Kenton had felt this way, such a hatred towards something to actually want to hurt it. it was as if his protective drive was turning into something more.

Frostbite whimpered a bit as the mare pinned down her paw. this surely was going to be smarting tomorrow...if she ever made it that far. suddenly a large brown stag appeared. Frostbite felt fear, real fear as she saw him standing over her. his antlers were sharp, and every inch of his muscled body had the power to drive those antlers right through her on the spot. were was Rishy? maybe this really was all a set up, something about getting rid of the weakest link in the pack, one less mouth to feed sort of deal. but no, they would not do that, she was the only female, the only one who could breed, they would not kill her off...right? well she had best play along until the end. in a trembling voice she said, "Im Frostbite..."

well there he was, finally Rishy had been able to draw out the Stag, and she didnt even have to lift a paw. it had been her intention the whole time to see who was incharge here, and to find his weakness...this had been only too easy. Rishy laughed out loud and dropped from her hidding place in the tree. she landed slightly behind Frostbite. her posture was not menacing or threatening, but layed back, almost as if she had just herd a good joke from a friend. "Frostbite! my child after what i have seen you are hardly worthy of that name." she looked down at the sad sight of her daughter, not bleeding, but definatly bruised and broken. "I know, lets call you Warmnibble instead, how about that." Rishy then turned her attention to the two Deer folk infront of her. she still kept a very lighthearted air. she was not worried, she could take on both of them, she had fought bigger, and stronger, but she would rather now dirty herself over such a simple argument. "please excuse my daughters rudeness, obviously she did not know that these woods already were claimed. we were simply hunting, the child dosent know any better. but, if you want your revenge for the damage she has caused, then please take it out on me." she smiled and stuck out her chest, and lifted her head slightly to expose her throat, a sign to show that she was the inferior. in reality though, she was defiantly the superior here, she was just slightly shorter than the Stag, and bigger built than the Mare. it was their move now, how would the couple react to this new opponent.

Calixte heard the laugh and watched as Frostbite's mother dropped gracefully from the nearby tree. So that's what she'd seen. It was with disgust, though, that she watched the female torment her daughter. What kind of mother could stomach talking like that to a child, whether one or both were corrupt? There was not a hint of love or fondness in her voice - just some kind of begrudging duty to keep the foal safe. What a twisted bond that was, if there was one at all.

With her hoof still resting on Frostbite's, Cali glared at this reproachable mother. "I do not wish revenge on your daughter, though I'm sure she will get her own on you someday," she spat. For some reason, this purewalker had induced a visceral reaction of anger in Cali, and she had the urge to take it out on the slender neck that the mare was offering to her. However, she didn't act on it - this female would certainly look for revenge on her for such an action someday.

Cali looked to Kenton for a moment before turning her gaze back to Frostbite. "I will forgive your daughter's trespass this time. Know, however, that if she ever hunts here again, be it the smallest kit
((rabbit baby = kit)) or a member of our herd, I will make sure that she receives the punishment deserved for both this time and the next. It is really up to Kenton what happens now." As Cali looked down at the filly, she wanted to tuck Frostbite behind her, take her home, and raise her right. She knew though, that with a mother like this, Frostbite was already beyond her help.

Tin looked between Rishy, Frostbite, and Mommy and Daddy as words were exchanged. She was what some in the herd called a "smart cookie," but that didn't mean that she could always gauge what was going on. This seemed to be one of those times. Maybe it was the shock finally getting to her, or maybe it was the fact that her mom had put on the formal accent, but she didn't really understand what her parents were talking about. It could have been that she'd never seen this side of her parents before; she just wasn't sure. But whatever was going on, there was one thing her mind focused on - how Frostbite's mother was treating her daughter.

Tinuviel had never seen a family dynamic like that before - one based on intimidation, not love or respect. Obviously there was something wrong with this picture, and Tin couldn't comprehend how someone could treat their child that way. As such, Tin watched Frostbite as the filly's mother told her that she wasn't even worth her name, and looked on with pity. How could Frostbite not be ashamed when her mother said things like that to her? And it wasn't even to her, it was at her. Tin almost cried at the thought of her mother being so disappointed in her. She couldn't imagine it, and just stared at Frostbite with that sad look in her eye. It never crossed Tin's mind that Frostbite might hate pity even more than she hated the way she was being treated.

Kenton hated them both. he saw them for what they really were. they were lower than dirt and he wished that he could just banish the whole race back to the hell hole that they crawled from. but, his daughter was behind him, and Cali was next to him. this was not the time nor the place. right now the only thing he cared about was getting them back to the herd safely, or at least in a condition that was no worse than they were already in, and stabbing the foal named Frostbite through with his antlers just did not seem like it would help the situation.

so he stood as tall as he could and gave the wicked mother his decision. "get out of my site and never come back. if i ever see you or your cub here again i promise i will kill you both." with that he nudged Cali to have her let the foal go. he would have turned and walked away, but he knew better than to turn his back on an enemy. so he would wait till they were far out of sight before he turned.

Frostbite hated all of this. she knew that her mother was just playing them, but she could sense a bit of truth lying there. she had dissapointed her mother, but she could not help but feeling like she had been used as bait for something bigger. had her mother been looking for this stag...and if so, why did Rishy not fight him? he had plenty of meat on him to feed their pack. what was Rishy playing at here. Frostbite wiggled free from the mares hoof and turned to the disgusting filly that should have been lunch. "it was fun playing with you, maybe we can do it again some time." she winked at the filly and turned to her mother.

Rishy bowed as low as she could in a mocking manner. her nose brushed the ground and when she rose back up she addressed Kenton. "your wish is my command. if your highness desires to never see me again then we will avoid this land, but hey if you ever get board im sure you can find me." she winked at the mare. "you have a little spit fire there, my i be so honored to learn the name of your strong little filly?" Rishy liked to make things personal...for this reason she never forgets a name, and she had a strong feeling that this would not be the last time she ran into the deerfolk family.

Calixte glared at the larger purewalker, feeling as though she'd been spit upon. As she lifted her hoof - grudgingly - off the cub's paw, Cali had to fight the urge to smash it. Obviously, neither of these females could appreciate mercy when it was handed to them on a shiny, silver platter, and for that reason, Cali stayed silent. She would not deign to give this mare her child's name - not when she so obviously couldn't understand what it was to be a mother. This pair had struck a chord inside Cali, and she couldn't remember ever wanting to kill something the way she wanted to kill them. Sure, there had been inklings, times of frustration, but nothing like this - simmering, unadulterated rage.

Cali stayed like that - staring daggers - until she couldn't take it anymore. "Get. Out." She shot the words like arrows at the mother, clipping her words short. Her eyes brightened more than usual, and her hair took on a mind of its own, lashing angrily toward Frostbite's mother. It had only behaved like this once before, in the presence of another skinwalker... She knew that there wasn't much that she could threaten this beast with, being as petite as she was, and so Cali remained silent yet again.

Tin gave Frostbite a wide-eyed look before glancing at her mother. It had been 'fun?' Tinúviel wanted to shove another well-aimed hoof in the filly's face. What on earth was her problem, aside from the obvious mommy issues?

Before Tin could follow that train of thought any further, though, she looked to Frostbite's mother, who had asked for her name. Without hesitation, Tin said, "My name's Tinúviel, what's yours?" Only heartbeats later, though, her mother spoke those words, and Tin knew her question would probably never be answered. It had been automatic, anyway; a well-used response to newcomers in the herd who hadn't yet met her. Giving Frostbite another glare, Tin shrank behind her father further. Just in case something happened, she didn't want to get caught in the middle. She'd never seen her mother go into the silent anger phase she was now witnessing, but she'd heard of others doing it... And usually, it ended in an explosion.

Rishy reached down and bite the scruff on Frostbite's neck. it was not something that purewalkers did very often for the foal was usually too heavy to carry, and it also was a form of insult to the foal. but rishy was strong ans she dragged Frostbite out of the clearing and off into the forest. when they were far enough away she let her daughter down and started walking towards their cave. it had been an interesting outing for sure. Rishy knew that if they came home without food there would be a beating like none other. "Dear, we had better grab a bite before we make it back of Ghostpaw is sure to eat you instead. witch would be a shame because i think you have potential." she said nothing more. sure the pup was small now, but she could tell that her daughter carried more than just strength and hatered. Frostbite was cunning, that was apparent through todays actions, and that was always a good trait to carry.

Frostbite gave out a small yelp as Rishy's teeth grabbed her scruff. she felt herself go limp and she was dragged out and away from her new friend. when Rishy set her down after a whiles walk, frostbite for to her feet and shook her furr back into place. "i understand what you did there, but dont worry i wont tell." she paused for a moment, thinking about what had happened and all of the subtle meanings that the actions held. she remained quiet during the most part of the walk, but could not help but say, "thats not the last time we are going to see them. ill remember them, as i know you will too." Rishy said nothing, so Frostbite kept walking. she made sure to memorize the foals face, and the way they took to arrive in the deerfolk lands, and the smell of the parents. she ran it all in her head over and over again. this was just the begining, for today Frostbite learned the joy of playing games.

Kenton watched as the two purewalkers left. he could not help but feel that he was making a big mistake, but what else could he do? he has stuck between a rock and a hard place. chasing them down and stabbing them through simply wasent an opption, not with his daughter here, and his son off bleeding somewere. not to mention that he probably could not take on the both of them. the little one would be easy, the big one maybe, but together they would over power him and he would be lunch. everything about the whole situation just mad him more frustrated. it was not like him to let an opponent walk away.

once the threat was out of sight Kenton bent over and nudged Cali, half for comfort, half to get her moving. "Enaran is still in the woods, we should go see that he is not alone." then Kenton turned to Tinuviel. he bent down and nuzzled her. he could only imagen what she was going through. "Tin im so proud of you, you were so brave. come lets go get your brother and head home." with that he turned and headed back to were he left Enaran.

Cali nodded numbly as she stared after the monster and her young. Glancing back up at Kenton, she snapped back into herself, and returned his nudge with a gentle one of acknowledgement. The pain from the tears in her chest tissue made her grimace, but she silently dealt it away before turning to Tin, who was still hiding behind Kenton. "Daddy's right, Tin, we couldn't be more proud of you. Thank you for protecting your brother and your herd today. If you hadn't, those two probably would have made off with more than just Enaran." Beaming at her daughter, Cali turned to follow Kenton, beckoning for Tin to follow with a nod of the head. "Let's go home and find your brothers." Whether she meant Enaran and Oke or Enaran and Trovin, Cali knew that Tin would percieve them the same way - Oke, like Trovin and Enaran, was counted as part of the family's nucleus, at least in Tin and Cali's eyes.

Trotting to catch up with Kenton's long strides, Cali and Tin kept close to him on their way through the forest - there was no way of knowing that the purewalkers hadn't doubled back, and their subconsciouses kept them from straying too far from his side.

Tin grinned from ear to ear at her parents praise, or at least, that was what it felt like. Since the day she'd been out of her basket, she'd been caught between dismay at having to meet their expectations all the time and joy at having such loving parents. At last, though, she'd finally done more than was expected of her - in protecting her brother from the purewalker, she'd protected the entire herdland, since the patrols would now be on the lookout for them. Nonetheless, she was honest. "It was really scary, that was all. Thanks though, Mommy, Daddy." Prancing beside them, she decided to go ahead and find her brother - they'd safely reached the small plains and clearings that made up the main herdlands, and Enaran had to be around somewhere.

You can go ahead and post, and I'll just stick Enaran in first next time or something. We can give Cali & Kenton a chance to chat in between, if you'd like?

Kenton turned and stopped Cali as soon as they reached the herd lands. Tin ran off to bo find her brother, and they would join her shortly, but first there were some things that they had to get in order. "We need to make a plan. im sure many people saw En walk in covered in blood." he knew that they should tell the herd, but he was not sure if that was the best line of action. he did not want to start panic, but at the same time he wanted people to be careful. "I dont think we should just out right tell everyone what happened. we can tell the few people who it directly affects, but there is no need to create panic. we should at least increase the patrols, and for a while make patrols go out in pairs." He stopped for a moment, realizing that he has started to ramble on, and was probably not making any sense. He took a deep breath to calm himself and again addressed Cali. "Sorry, what do you think would be the best plan of action?"
PostPosted: Sun Dec 09, 2012 10:04 pm

Cali turned to Kenton, looking between him and Tinuviel as she ran off into the safety of the main herdlands. "You're right. I think... We should at least tell the patrols, so they know what they're in for. Maybe the rest we could take up with Riverfaith and Faye? Or at least make defensive and offensive combat training mandatory for a time..." she proposed. "And... I don't know... Could we peg it on an accident? Because I'm bleeding too, here." Frowning, she tried to get a look at her chest, but knew she would need a reflective pool to see it. Her cheekbones were in the way. "How bad is it, anyway?" The pain had yet to recede, but she was at least managing to keep a grimace off her face. In Kenton's presence, though, she allowed herself a moment of weakness - he was, after all, the only one who knew her every secret. He, of all people, should be allowed to see her pain. Giving him a wavering smile, she waited for his answer.

Kenton could see the pain in her eyes, but she was holding it in. this was something that he loved about her. no matter how difficult things got she was able to handle it, she was strong, but even the toughest of stones can be broken. Kenton gave her a lasting hug. while still holding the embrace he said, "It's not terrible, but anyone can see its a bite, that foal must have had a nasty grip on you to go that deep. give it some herbs and gentle care, it will be healed soon enough. come, let us get you and En cleaned up. then i want you to rest, ill take care of warning the patrols." He gave her a little kiss on the cheek and then nudged her in the direction were he could see En and Tin.
