"I think we have a box of spare handles anyway," Jericho said as he made his way towards the supplies closet. He had expected Riley to be close behind, but instead he heard a grating noise from the wall.
"Aaah... Riley.. over here," he winced. That was not a pleasant sound to the ears at all. As he turned, he held the box of spares while twitching slightly from the noise.

Riley had grabbed for another one, but stopped before pulling it off. Spare handles?
Ugh. You're no fun. She released the wall, dropping down to the floor with a thud. Her hands touched the ground to stablilize herself, then she straightened and strolled over to the closet with him. In there, she found the rest of what she needed. Slings for injuries would work for what she needed.
Hopefully.
Here, try tying one of these around one of my wings. See if it stays.

Nodding, Jericho took the sling and moved behind Riley, taking a moment to see how he was going to try and do this. Hopefully, he wouldn't end up cutting himself on those crystals, but the scales that now covered his hands should provide some protection he figured. Carefully, he went on and tried to tie it around the wing before letting go to see if it'd stay put at all.

It was hard to tell, but the sling was tied around the invisible membrane, instead of the crystals. This was keeping it from slicing through, and looked like a successful - if oddly floating - connection.
Okay. Now, we figure out the safest way to connect a handhold to a sling. She sat down on the floor, crossed her legs underneath her, and started poking away at a handhold and a sling, trying to figure out ways of connecting them. She tied the sling to the side of the handhold, but it just slid off. She tried tying it to the hold itself, but the ends jutted out oddly, making the handhold unsteady.
Clearly, this was a puzzle that would require more thought.

The dragon tilted his head as the sling seemed to float there. That was kind of weird, but hey it worked! Or it seemed to at least.
Crouching down by Riley, he picked up one of the handholds to look it over. It seemed this little idea was a little more complex than originally planned, but that wasn't too big of an issue. Examining the piece some more, he furrowed his brow. The holds needed to be both secured to the sling as well as relatively stable.
"Wait! Maybe you should use the resistance bands. Tie one end to your wings.. and well they already have handles. It still might not be too steady though... hm..."

Flicking her gaze over to the resistance bands, she picked one up and dropped the handholds with a clatter. A few quick maneuvers with a sling, and she had tied the sling effectively to the resistance band.
Jericho. That was a brilliant idea. She breathed out, as she bounced the band from the sling to check how stable it was. This works much better than the rock climb holds. I wish I had thought of it before ripping that one out.
She didn't really sound contrite.
Here, now set this sling on my other wing, let's see if this works.

Grinning as it seemed to work out pretty well, Jericho soon nodded and moved to get the sling around Riley's other wing, making sure it was secure before stepping away.
"Alright, that should do," He said.

Riley stood up, and slid her hand through the resistance band. She pulled on the band, and there was a bit of slack, but the wing refused to give in to the pull once she forced it taut.
This has a chance of working. Let's make three more.
She settled back down, and picked up another resistance band and sling. While she started tying, she slowed her moves as a thoughtful expression passed her gaze.
Jericho, if I do learn to fly, do you think.. She paused, focused intently on a knot, and sighed. Do you think your parents would be more accepting of me?

Glad to see things working, Jericho nodded and grabbed a band and sling so he could make one as well. Though, his actions slowed as he heard her question.
"It's possible yeah," he mused while thinking it over, recalling the reaction his father had when he first found out about his mark and who had done it, "But I think once they meet you in person, they'll see that you're really not bad."
He could see why they were concerned. Between Andeon, Riley's Aunt in that ant hill thing, and the stories he heard of the Illithid, there was a fair amount of reason to not hold much trust in them.

Really all not that bad. Riley snickered as she repeated his words, the knot in her hands tightening with force. She lifted it up and slung it around the other top of the wing, testing its strength.
But I am that bad, Jericho. She was looking at her wing, turned completely from him. Maybe you just don't want to see it.

Glancing over at her, Jericho raised an eyebrow at her words, a little confused by what she meant.
"No. You're different from the others I've seen. You would never enthrall me. You'd never just 'use me and toss me aside once you're done'," he said.

Whether he was right or wrong, Riley still couldn't fathom why he was so sure of his faith. She bent down, holding out her lower wing for him to fasten his sling, but her face was still turned to him, bent close, her eyes furrowed as she studied him.
How can you be so sure?

"A few reasons," Jericho started as he went ahead to fasten the sling to her wing, "One being the mark. It's the terms of our contract. Two being our bond. Three... you would have just gotten that mindwipe regardless of anything I said or did. You wouldn't have.. cared."
As he said that, he turned to look more towards the mindflayer.

The mark does not protect you, Jericho. Her voice was very quiet now, and the hesitance in it was obvious. She turned, and placed her hand on it, looking at it sadly. Those who wear my mark are not protected. You should not place as much faith in that as..
Her eyes turned up to meet his.
As you would our bond.
As for the mindwipe, however, she said nothing. She dropped her hand, and soured visibly. She didn't like being reminded of just how powerful Malodore and Jericho were upon her decisions.
The sling dropped from her lower wings, having nothing to keep them on. It offered her an escape from the painful conversation. We'll need to connect these to the ones on my upper wings, or else they're useless. Should we use another sling? Or do you have a better idea?
Running away. Always running.

Looking down as she placed her hand on his chest, noting the hesitance and sadness she bore.
"I wouldn't expect the mark in general would. But even then it was more for a more tangible thing for you to know that I'm not going anywhere," he replied, "But even then, the bond should say enough for that."
Jericho noticed that her mood dripped more from his last comment. It wasn't something he liked to think about a lot either. He almost lost her that day after all.
"We could use some caribeaners and some rope for the rockwall to connect them most likely," he mused. That rope was pretty reliable, especially when the knots were tied correctly.
