"I am spreading my wings, in a manner of speaking," Malodore said with a hint of pride - it would have spread its actual wings, except its control over them was still tenuous at best, and it preferred not to distract from the conversation by flopping its limbs around. "I wish to experiment, to experience. These variables traditionally represent the apex of a romantic encounter. I wish to ensure you have your romantic needs provided for."

It would have gotten another bit of brain for her, except its hands were now immobilized. Ah well.

Hmm. She would have let its hands go, if she knew she was the one responsible for not being fed further. But she didn't, and so she kept her hold on them, sliding her tentacle against the cold, smooth metal fondly. No, I think I understand why you would want to try something like this. She murmured, clearly not accepting its answer. What I still wonder is where the inspiration came from. What lit the fire - metaphorically speaking, of course - that had you thinking about romance?

She had an idea, but she was wrong. But she asked regardless, to see what kind of things Malodore had been spending its time with lately.

That question gave Malodore pause; it tilted its head to one side. What had prompted it? Had anything in particular, really? "No great event... it was simply a thought, I suppose. From such small sparks do great concepts spawn, after all?" It opened its beak in a smile, but kept the quizzical tilt to its head in place. Did it need a great reason?

Its eyes, behind the lenses, flicked briefly towards the bush where Calder was, as if seeking momentary reassurance.

So, if she were to believe Malodore, which she always did, then it had simply been mulling over the thought of dating her.

It had just. Been sitting around. Thinking about dating her.

There was something increasingly interesting about the edge of the tablecloth all of a sudden, and her fingers grasped the cloth between them, feeling their texture. There was no logical reason why such an action would suddenly make her blush, and so she knew the stain of her cheeks would be questionable, but she regarded the tablecloth with her usual intensity nonetheless.

No, no, That is perfectly acceptable. She stammered out quietly, tugging on the cloth. I feel, ah, very grateful for this chance to spend some time with you. Her eyes lifted just enough to look at the table itself, staying there for a moment before eventually lifting back up to Malodore.

Was it even holding any more brain up for her to eat? She couldn't tell, she was suddenly not very hungry.

"As am I, mia cara. It is interesting, experiencing and exploring social constructs," Malodore said, amiably, its beak opening in that now-familiar smile. "And to know that it pleases you makes it all the more worthwhile. An eminently fascinating experiment." It teased free another bit of brain and dangled it over the nearest tentacle. Apparently its relief that she really liked the setup was making it bolder.

As odd, and almost childish as feeding someone initially seemed, Riley was starting to understand why others may have referred to the action as romantic. When Malodore dangled it over her tentacle, she could tell it was being playful - and to have Malodore in a state of playfullness, as far as Riley was concerned, charged the action with a healthy dose of romance. It was charmingly sweet.

Her tentacle mimiced the paw of a cat, batting at its claws in an attempt to claim the prize.

I do, very much, enjoy being a part of your experiments, Malodore. Riley admitted, as her hands folded underneath her chin and she rested her elbows on the table. They have never ceased to interest me. You have never ceased to interest me. The emphasis on the word you was heavy. And I admittedly have a bias for social experiments. Scientific ones may be the most stimulating, but social experimentation has always brought me the greatest long term rewards.

"The social arts are not my area of expertise, but I can see how you would find them fascinating. You shall specialize in such things, and I in medicines, and together... well, you will chain the mind, and I the body." It tilted its head and dropped just a tiny bit of brain into the waiting tentacle's... uh, maw-thing.

The tentacle snatched up the piece, opening to devour it in one little gulp before it fell flaccid on the table and began the slow process of swallowing it.

Riley's entire expression lifted, and brightened, almost glowing at the ideas Malodore proposed. Working together, chaining the mind and body, hand in hand, it made her feel like floating. Her eyes were thin, high curved crescents as she looked at it.

I approve of this future wholeheartedly. She breathed out in a lovesick sigh.

"Ho pensato che potrebbe," Malodore said, putting the bit of candied brain back on the plate. "I, ah, also planned another entertainment for tonight. Perhaps one to enjoy early on, before you grow tired? Only wait just a moment, per favore..." It got up and backed over to where the caged squirrel was concealed, feeling nervous suddenly as it scooped up the hapless creature, holding it behind its back as it returned to the table.

"You, ah, said I m-might observe the hunt," it said, bringing the cage out and holding it in front of it like a gift. "If it is acceptable to you?"

Malodore triggered her curiosity almost instantly. She sat up rigid, trying to see just what it was hiding, before it brought the cage up before her. She was looking at.. a caged squirrel. A very unhappy one, as squirrels aren't well known for being pets or good in cages. It was trying to gnaw one of the metal bars when it was revealed, but one look at her had the squirrel's instincts triggering.

It immediately stopped what it was doing and flattened itself, backing as far away from her as it could. It made her lift her face in lieu of a smile. Animals could be so terribly clever.

When she realized what the squirrel was for, she lifted her gaze to look at Malodore, and tilted her head in confusion. You wish to watch me hunt this squirrel? She asked, blinking profusely. As in, you will be releasing it and I will chase? Because if so, I may not have dressed appropriately for this endeavor..

"Ah, well... ah." It blinked at her attire for a moment, then looked abashed. Or as abashed as it could, anyway, which largely depended on the other party being able to sense the emotion through some other means. "I confess, I had not thought of that... ah, perhaps I should save it for another time...?"

The embarrassment was charming. She chuckled, and reached down to pull off her shoes.

Absolutely not, il mio amore. She purred. I want to do this for you. Proceed. But you will want to keep your eyes peeled, I am rather quick.

Malodore brightened immediately. "Are you quite sure? I do greatly admire your excellent attire..." But, at the same time, it really wanted to see her hunt. Almost embarrassingly so, really.

It held the cage out a little further. "I, ah, am not sure what position would be best for this."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 07, 2011 12:38 am

I am always sure. She responded quickly, padding her feet into the ground to get the feel of it. She started to remove her jewelry, as well. I assume the best position for you to release it and still get a view of stalking, would be to release it on the table itself. It will attempt to acquire some of the food, and then choose a tree to scamper into. There is where I will strike.

She reached out and tapped Malodore's beak with one finger. You know, I think it's adorable that you wish to see this. I kind of feel like I'm showing off for you. Maybe for once, you can be the one who is struck speechless with affection, and not always me.

She chuckled as she turned and walked away, disappearing into the trees. There was a rustle up in the leaves, but it was impossible to see where she'd gotten to.

Calder thought the entire thing was rather cute, simply because Riley was always so rigid and Malodore tended to be bland at times when he rambled on about science and missed some of the other details in life. This, now this he could support, and while it was peculiar to be interloping on such a moment, it was like watching a play or show that he could take pleasure in as an observer, root for the couple, and yet he could find some personal pride in helping it happen not to mention that he knew both characters.

When Malodore continued to fluster and glanced to him, Calder froze and then crouched, before gesture with a thumbs up and then a shooing motion to stop looking at him and to go back to the conversation.

They continued, and Calder watched the peculiar way that Riley ate, and covered his mouth as he held in a snicker as Malodore mentioned chaining bodies. When the cage was brought out and the mention of hunting was coming up, Calder started to panic. JACK! He was hiding in the bushes! He had to hope the squirrel bolted anywhere but here. If Riley was a hunter, she'd smell him! While he smelled of river water, he also smelled of horse to some extent even in this form.

Curling in, he prayed to the Pumpkin King that he would not be found and then tensed when Riley got ready and then vanished. His ears perked like that of a hunted animal, as he tried to pinpoint where she was, and he covered his mouth with both hands to keep from making any noises of surprise.
