He tensed up once again, not really sure about the feeling of her tail suddenly having a hold on him. His ears laid back again as the murmuring picked up once more.
"...yes she's like a snake...no! No, I will not! ....no, those are Mar'li's doing....stop! You will not entice me!" He barked, eyes re-focusing on the sandy beach stretched out before him, vaguely aware of the mare's presence still at his side.
"...I did say that. But not me. I'm not your kind."

The mare looked crestfallen. Literally. Her crest drooped back. There was the sad truth of the stallion. He was broken and might pass that trait to his children. She peered up at him. "One moment you say to simply choose a male, the next you say I should be with my own kind. That would be a little hard, since there are none left."
She released her hold on his leg and stepped away, only to turn back to him. "You cannot say you did not say such a thing, either. I heard you with my own ears." She huffed, quite frustrated with the stallion. He was handsome and intriguing, sure, and his background did not seem too far removed from her own upbringing. So, why was he making her want to smack him upside the head with her tail? "Maybe your mother has you so wrapped into your own beliefs you're just unwilling to take a chance on something that might be new."
Okay, maybe she didn't mean that exactly. She scrunched up her face a moment, then relaxed and let out a deep breath. Opening her eyes, she looked up at him. "I get it. You're broken inside somewhere. Probably misunderstood a lot of times, too. I thought maybe we were similar. You remind me of home." She looked out toward the ocean. "You're just like everyone else, though. Well, you've seen the monster on the beach. You're free to go."

He frowned a bit as her words hit him. He rolled them around in his mind for a bit, slowly coming back into reality once more. He was never sure where or when his outbursts would come, but he could now understand why his sister was usually the one sent to gather various trinkets and items while he remained home lost in his own mind.
"Of course I said you can pick any." He said, his voice regaining it's original tone. "I did not say you couldn't. ...you tell us to just find another female if we cannot produce ours. I tell you to pick any male. You did. Why now do you recoil so much?"
Atal'ai stared at her for a long time, making sure to remain focused solely on her in his mind. He didn't want to leave, she was intriguing and showing him plenty of things to take home. "...perhaps I will go. Perhaps I'll come back and prove....I don't know what do you. You're not the only monster."

"The mares back home must have some serious patience for the males of your herd if they're all like you," the naga answered, not yet wanting to look at him again. She wanted to hold onto that anger just a little longer. "You're incredibly dense for such a smart stallion. I only let you alone because you made it clear you were not interested, or do you not remember shouting something about how I would not entice you?"
And then he said he would leave. That's... not really what she wanted. Sighing, she turned to look back at him and shook her head. She barely knew the stallion, but she'd learned it was hard to be upset with him. How could she be? He clearly could not control his words or thoughts at times. "I don't think you should leave. Not if you don't want to." She lowered her head to look at the sand, not exactly wanting to meet his gaze, ashamed at her own outburst. "And.. you're far from being a monster. You're just... weird. Luckily, I kind of like weird."

"Home is only Amani and myself...for now..." He mumbled, considering the fact his sister could very well bring home more of her own children at any time. Or his missing brother could very well turn up at any time.
"I try not to let....-them- talk to me. It just happens. I respond. It's always been this way and Mama encourages it. I cannot stop just because another wants me to!" He adjusted the pouch around his neck and started back down the beach past her to return home. "I'll leave since you're so insistent. That way I'm no longer a burden or a bother."
He paused for a moment, stepping back to press his head against her own before turning to follow the prints in the sand.

Darkspine shook her head and followed after him. It was the way home for her, too. "I don't think you should stop. It's part of who you are." She gave a soft sigh and sped up, moving to cut him off a bit. "I should not have implied that your wrong in your ways. I didn't know you speak to voices I can't hear. When you speak to them, I don't know if you're directing your words at me or them."
She stepped aside to let him by. "You're not a bother nor a burden. Not by any means. If you want to leave, though, I won't keep you. Your herd will be missing you, I bet." She looked down at the sand, her tail drawing idle patterns in it, and silently willed him to stay, at least for a little longer.
At his head pressing against hers, she glanced up to see him walking away. Her mouth moved a moment before she was able to find her voice. "You could stay. Not forever, but you could stay while."

He stopped long enough to let her move from his path before starting up again. "I cannot stop them when they want my attention. Don't take everything I say at..well don't trust it. Don't trust me. I'm insane." He said, glancing beside him to look at her.
"I need to take this home. I shouldn't have gone so far...but perhaps I'll be back." He sighed and tried to focus on the path ahead to return home to the swamp. "I do like it here...I still want to learn how to harness the power of the water."

"I don't think you're any more insane than I am a monster," the mare replied softly, knowing that the words likely fell to deaf ears. Once they reached the cave, she stopped. "I hope you do come back. I might not be able to show you the water's power, but I wouldn't mind talking more about our herds." She touched his shoulder briefly with the tip of her tail before retreating toward her cave. "Have a safe journey home. I hope to see you again someday."
