Gale grinned at Bix, shifting his gun so that he could give his friend a thumbs up.
"Thanks, man," he said, looking down at the rifle with a sense of both accomplishment and pride. Being in that first test and using that tiny handgun had been one thing; holding a rifle that was roughly the length of his own legs was quite another thing. Jinhai purred and thrummed with energy, eager to shoot again, but Gal's eyes had flickered towards Bix again. He whistled appreciatively.
"Beautiful," he said with a smirk. "Now can you shoot as well as you can punch?"
This, of course, was teasing the older boy for their rather pathetic attempts at hitting the punching bag in one of the training rooms the other night, but to his surprise Bix's first arrow sliced cleanly through the air and landed -
"Well," said Gale, scrutinizing Bix's target. "You did hit it."
<< Please at least give me the dignity of shooting elsewhere, >> came Jinhai's voice, waspish and exasperated. Grinning at Bix, Gale glanced briefly over at Cass who was really doing quite well with a thick handled knife in one hand, and what looked like a gun in the other.
He lifted the rifle again, taking aim.
BANG.
This time his shot went nicely through the target's upper chest, near the right shoulder.

He had never played video games, really, save for a bit of Super Mario back in the day... but it all kind of made some sort of twisted sense. Or at least was more comforting a concept to have some sort of protection than just running at the enemy and hoping for the best... and besides, his weapon was built for keeping him at a distance. The concepts of barriers gave him some confidence at least.
Jerry had taken a moment to catch his breath, watching the others all take their own targets. It was fascinating, the array of weaponry that was summoned around him, especially at the sight of that purple glow at Candace's feet. Oh- wow. He had never seen weapons like THAT before... and her legs were powerful.
Enough staring! Do it again! Again, go! Roar snarled excitedly in the back of his head, there'll be plenty of time to watch them short-shorts later! I'm HUNGRY!
"Ah! Sorry, yes!" He blinked out of his moment of gawking, swallowing hard as he crouched down, hefting the cannon back onto his shoulder and took aim.
He was better repaired for the kick-back this time, merely falling into a sitting position once the bazooka barked a bit louder this time, his ears ringing as the cardboard target shuddered from the blow. He beamed. He was getting better! Practice really did make perfect!

Through some huge, marvelous, wondrous miracle, Before managed to keep to himself. Well, actually it wasn't so much of a miracle inasmuch as it was Vanna telling him to stay back and as far away as possible but at the same time not too far back that he'd fail to hear their instructor's words. He may or may not have let out a terrified little squeal (he will point to the nearest Hunter in accusation if anyone turned to look at him) when Gale was stabbed. In the heart. OAO!?!?!?! Before was suddenly very ready to charge up to his friend to see if he was alright and if he had any dying words he might want to impart. Had it not been for the screech in his brain from Vanna to stay put he would have. Thankfully he listened to his weapon! You know why?
Because because because OMG GALE WAS OKAY!! Like, TOTALLY okay! He was still standing and not bleeding and and and ;w; YAY GALE!
And as Aria finished explaining, the others went at their training with gusto and finesse (maybe not all of them). Rather than inspiring the former Beta to join in, he felt more like he wanted to meld into the walls. Or maybe hide behind someone forever and ever and ever ;A;
Oh come now, silly Before. It's just training. And I'm ever so hungry. You wouldn't want me to keep starving now, WOULD YOU?!
O-oh no! Of course not! Wait, you mean you've been starving ALL THIS TIME AND DIDN'T TELL ME!? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!?!?!?!? he mentally wailed at the revelation. Without making any conscious effort, the bottle-cap pin suddenly enlarged into the eight-spoked wheel that was nearly half Before's size. Small wonder how he managed to wield such a heavy looking thing, but to Before, Vanna was perfectly balanced in his hands.
Pick a cutout and attack? Uh, sure, Before could do that. Wait, how does one attack with this sort of weapon? O.o Uuuuh, Vanna? How-
A sigh, Build up momentum and let go.
Before suddenly gripped her tighter and pulled her against him, mentally blubbering B-but I MIGHT LOSE YOU! LIKE THE FIRST TIME!!!!!!
HUNGRY! THROW ME!!! NOW
Before reluctantly pulled Vanna away from his body, focusing on a cardboard cutout, while watching the others from the corner of his eye. "Woo hoo!!! You guys are doing AWESOME!" he cheered out to Bix, Gale, Cassandra, Candace, and that guy with the badass bazooka he'd never met. He hefted Vanna before Before started to spin on his heels, trying to build up momentum.
Unfortunately, all that spinning? Yeah it totally left Before dizzy. Waaaaay too dizzy to let go. Actually, he even started to look a little green... @A@

As expected, Gale improved his second shot. The other hunter always seemed really together and Bix didn't expect anything less from his buddy. His own bow still felt awkward in his hands but there was a familiarity there that he couldn't escape.
After his first ball busting arrow he took a step back to watch everyone else. "Cass you have like.. a Final Fantasy weapon. That's awesome!" She played horror games from what he could tell. Did she ever play FF? He cursed her young age cause she was rocking those jeans pretty hard.....
How come my fun always gets interrupted by your philandering mind? Philandering? You are cheating on me! Your brain is mine!
His mental argument was interrupted when Before busted out this crazy looking metal wheel. Bix positively gaped. It looked way too heavy for his blabbering bro but he seemed to carry it like it was nothing. That didn't stop Before from flailing though! In his classic fashion the hunter spun and spun and never let go of the wheel. Instead he bobbled in place.
"Nice Before!" Bix couldn't help his snickering. "Your weapon is .. really awesome looking!" Perhaps the other hunter would do better using it as a sheild?
Bixxxxyyy... Alright!
Bix once more lined up a shot, placing his marble to the bow and drawing back another arrow. It soared, buzzing in the air once more, and thunked into the target at the shoulder. Once again it was a rather solid strike.
Bix was a liiiiittle impressed with himself.

Vanna rolled within Before's grip in what was her weapon form's equivalent to giving him doe-eyes. She sighed and supposed this was her fault for not telling him that there were other ways for him to wield her. Silly boil? Are you alright? she asked with concern.
Before sort of just found his legs giving way beneath him. It had nothing to do with Vanna's weight (and if he said it did, she would probably chew him out for making such an inappropriate and rude suggestion) and more to do with the fact that: "Everything's spinning, can someone stop the spinning? I'd like to get off," he groaned, closing his eyes and sticking his tongue out comically.
Hearing Bix's encouragement, the former Beta tried to stand up on his wobbly feet to make another attempt at getting Vanna to not-starve. He didn't understand what their instructor meant by them feeding but if it meant his weapon was going to be happier then he would do it! Just... as soon as the desire to hurl went away, okay? @n@ He was waiting for time to pass so he could try spinning again when he heard Vanna not so subtly suggest, Blunt Force Trauma. Do those words mean anything to you?
Before stared at the wheel for quite some time, trying to both understand and regain his focus. "Uh, maybe? OH! And um, Bix, I sorta thought your balls would be bigger?" 8CCCCC it wasn't an insult. Before just remembered his friend's battle cry and sort of expected his weapons would match the pale-haired Hunter's proverbial balls. With that, the teal-eyed young man ran on unsteady feet towards his cardboard target and managed to hit it this time!
He felt something repel his attack and was almost going to apologize to Vanna when he heard her sigh in contentment.
So. Gooooooooooooooood~ Been so loooooooooooong~ MORE! MORE!

Do not be late.
"Crapcrapcrapcrapcrap-" Madison's door banged open as the Hunter darted out of her room, not bothering to look behind her to see if the door closed again. Instead, she tore down the hall, slammed through the door that led outside, and ran as fast as she possibly could over the green grass towards the training area. She hadn't meant to be late, honest! She hadn't even put on her makeup or anything!
But she was late, regardless, and she could feel Kouki radiating a chill disapproval. Not like he'd helped wake her up, though, she thought back at him, grumpily. Jerk. Scaley bladey jerk.
Madison skidded into the training area and tried to come to attention, though the fact that she was very obviously gasping for breath somewhat mitigated her attempt. And when she looked up, Aria was... stabbing Gale in the neck.
WHAT.
She stared at the goings-on in abject horror, only dimly registering Aria's explanation - at least, until Kouki delivered a surprisingly sharp mental jolt. Oh my god WHAT you are SO ANNOYING, she hissed at him, gritting her teeth.
This is important. Pay attention, Kouki snapped back in four-part harmony; right afterwards, she thought she 'heard' a faint whispering. As if Kouki was talking to itself. Probably talking stupid crap about her.
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh.
But if she didn't shape up, Aria would be on her, and fast, and it would be entirely justified. Madison squared her shoulders and focused, staring straight ahead. Fear, weapons, shielding, training... ugh, she didn't understand half of it, and she felt that was only partially due to her late arrival. The understanding expressions that surrounded her only made her feel worse. Stupid... stupid smart people.
Fortunately, the fact that their assignment was evidently hitting things actually sounded appealing right now. Hitting something would be a great way to work out her frustration. Madison flipped her hair behind her shoulders and stalked over to an unclaimed cutout, then closed her eyes and focused on summoning Kouki's true form. After a moment, she felt the sudden weight of the sword-belt settle around her hips.
Opening her eyes, she drew one of Kouki's blades in what she'd intended to be a dramatic gesture; the katana rattled awkwardly free of the scabbard, and she nearly dropped it. Madison scowled.
Now is not the time for petty frustrations. Now is the time for action. Use only one blade for now, Kouki instructed. No, don't hold it with both hands. Making bad habits now won't help you later.
Oooh, she was not in the mood to be lectured... but she'd rather take it from her weapon than from Aria. Kouki couldn't give her punishment detail, after all. She took a deep breath, then swung wildly at the target.
And missed entirely. Wonderful, now she looked even more like an idiot.

She was late.
... But not late enough to miss out on the instructions that Aria had given out, so she was not exactly late; after all, she did not miss out on the most important part - learning more about how to wield her (talkative) weapon. Watching quietly, her fingers gently resting on the chain around her neck, she tuned out Kintama's constant yapping, choosing to focus on the woman in front of her instead; she did not wish to miss out on any details.
She had to stop herself from wincing when their instructor ran the knife through Gale rather suddenly, since she was unprepared for it. This surprise was quickly replaced by fascination for what Aria had to share - this 'FEAR' thing is like the HP they have before risking certain death? And it charges their weapon?
Awesome.
The fact that Aria just put almost everything into the perspective of a gamer?
Even more awesome.
"Well! You heard the lady, Kintama," She muttered, practically grinning from ear to ear as she pulled the necklace off her neck by the chains, not bothering to be gentle about it. Rubbing her neck once, she then held up the necklace, which was... Now too big to be a necklace, actually; the chains itself fitted snugly in her hand. It just felt so right... Her grin widened as she stepped away from the rest, not really caring to interact much for now - not until she was used to swinging her weapon around.
Shield or no shield, better safe than sorry!
<Mmmm, pretty ghouls all around~ When they swing their weapons, like that, I can see their->
"Nope, your focus should be on that target today," She cut her weapon shot before he could finish, still grinning away as she pointed at one of the cardboard cutouts, "Hitting that successfully will mean you get some FEAR."
"I presumed you were listening," She rolled her eyes, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she wound the chain around her hand once to keep a better drip on it. She then paused, readying herself before swinging out with one of the balls hanging off the end of the chain, her teeth clenched. The inertia from the swing caused her to almost lose her footing, and she found herself stumbling forward. However, the cardboard cutout took a hit, flinging backwards just as Ariane regained her footing.
The rest of the sentence was lost as Ariane straightened up, letting out a laugh, "Details, details - let's do it till you're all filled up, shall we, partner?"

Even though many things have happened to the all, many horrific and mind boggling things, seeing someone get stabbed in the chest, let alone the heart, was still alarming. "Holy-" "Hes not harmed beefhead, see?" Nid hissed at him with urgency before his owner could do his classic "act like an idiot before thinking" routine and smack Aria.
"Oh, well .... damn." was all the boxer could say in response at the boy that just stood there looking around with his wide eyes. "So you can protect me Pig dragon?" he asked after Aira gave her non violent explanation of what just occurred. "You're my meal ticket afterall, just don't do anything..... foolish." the earth dragon growled back as Aria continued her lesson. "Since when have I done anything foolish?" he grumbled back before taking his spot in front of a cutout and charging in for a punch.
It was a rather odd form of a punch, being two handed and it didn't have the flair of a martial artists movement and discipline. through it quickly changed as he got closer and the dragon tooth necklace on his wrist shattered from an unforeseen blow into pieces, and the fragments took form into something much more sinister.
Leon was already used to it, but the sound of rumbling machinery filled the air as his newly gloved hands wrapped around the handle of a chainsaw etched with the scenery of branches and leaves floating along in the invisible wind as it roared its way toward the cutout.
It was a hefty swing from the boxer's trained arms, but no amount of training could prepare him for the sudden shield that blocked the saw's path and deflected its jagged edges away from its intended target and nearly kicked back into his face. "Whoa Nid, calm yourself here!" Leon yelled at the device over its revving, glad to not be split in twain.
"I'm hungry and your not helping me, now wise up and out on the jacking goggles that goes with it before I kick back on you for the fun of it!" Nidhogg scolded in return and put Leon in his place. The boxer sheepishly did so once he stabilized himself and the weapon in one hand and looked back at the weapon that almost sounded like it was sighing at him.
"I told you, foolish."

Fascinating. Jordan listened intently, taking in the explanation. It occurred to him to wonder if the shielding effect worked only for the bonded weapon, or if -
No, Ferros growled. You are mine. No other weapon may touch you. I will not allow it.
Jordan flinched slightly at the deep, grating tone, heavy with threat and possession. I wouldn't consider it, he said as calmly as he could.
The group was spreading out now, claiming targets. Jordan watched for a moment; Jerry was doing surprisingly well, Madison not so much, and she looked frustrated. The sound of a shot made him glance over to see Gale put a neat hole into his target, cheered on by Bix -
I'm hungry, Ferros said, some of the growling depth still resonating in his voice. Stop looking at them and let me feed.
Right. Jordan chose an unclaimed target and stepped up to it, swinging Ferros off his shoulder and back as he found a wide, two-handed grip. It was like and unlike wielding a sledgehammer at his grandfather's junkyard; Ferros's weight pulled at his arms, swung up and back to pause at the top of his arc.
As Jordan put his strength into the swing, Ferros roared wordlessly in his head, a hissing sound that built to a grating clattering rumble, a sound that Jordan felt instinctively would have been deafening had it not been silent. The hammer smashed into the cutout, ripping a good chunk off. Jordan stumbled slightly as momentum dragged him forward; the cardboard hadn't been near enough to arrest the force of the swing.
As he regained his balance, Ferros growled, deep and pleased. Again, the weapon ordered.

Bix gave Before a thumbs up when he finally seemed to whack the target with his wheel... thing. Asthetically speaking, it was awesome looking. He'd hang it on the wall for decoration if it wasn't a living weapon who thirsted for FEAR.
His eyes dragged across the crowd. Mostly he was seeing if anyone was better than him, anyone he disliked, but mostly he was admiring all the awesome weapons. The one girl had arrived late. He remembered her always being super made-up but he couldn't remember her name. She was definitely cute but he could tell that, siiiiigh, she was another one who was younger than him. With the makeup she looked much older!!
Either way she seemed to have a SHITLOAD (a real unit of measure in Bix-world) of swords but then seemed to not be able to wield them very well. It was good she only tried one at a time. He gave Gale and Before one of those 'guy' looks, his eyes darting to the frustrated looking girl. He then wiggled his eyebrows at his bros before strolling over with his bow. He tried to look cool.. cool as a cucumber.. PROFESSIONAL. But he hit a divot in the lawn as he got close and stumbled a bit.
"Ahh hey!" He recovered poorly, leaning on another cut out next to hers. "Your swords are awesome. I'm Bix by the way."
Oh Jack below... You are not doing this are you?
The mockery from his weapon made him sag even though no one could hear her but himself. He tried a less sleazy approach and instead just went to asking questions. "Four of them? Do they all have different voices? Thats gotta be nuts? Or is it just one..? Maybe they are a little distracting.. huh?"
His multitude of questions was mostly a way to help.. kind of. "Try to focus a little more. Don't think about it too much?" She didn't even ASK for help but he was dishing it out. "I barely shot a bow 5 times in my life but it seems like these weapons are meant for us so we are meant to master them." He popped an awkward smile, backed up a ways and let another arrow fly towards this new target.
Apparently trying to demonstrate was working in his benefit. His arrow flew true and hit the target in the throat, leaving a gash before dissipating. "Yah!" he was cheering himself on this time, surprised at how well he was doing! Mina also seemed to be excited. In his mind his weapons was making some of the most.... well he would be uncomfortable discussing the sort of rousing noises she was making. He even blushed a bit. He could feel the bow humming in his hand and the red orbs embedded in it seemed to pulse with energy.

"Er," said Gale, giving Before a rather stifled expression, as if he were trying very hard to be serious and not laugh. "You all right, mate? You're looking a little, erm...green."
<< That might have something to do with the fact that he's just spin himself into oblivion. Ignore Wheels and get back to me, please. >>
There was a sharp edge to Jinhai's voice; he sounded less like his usual ill-tempered, sardonic self and more eager somehow. The rifle was thrumming louder in Gale's hands now, the metal warming beneath his fingers as if pulsing with the life it had once held.
"Jinhai?"
<< Yes, Gale. >>
"What species were you before?"
<< I already told you; a dragon. >>
"Juat checking."
BANG.
A third shot rang out from the end of Gale's rifle, exploding in a flash of pale blue light towards the target. Except Gale, still a little unused to the force of the blowback, felt the rifle snap up abruptly, the barrel jerking from it's position, and the shot went far and wide.
Gale swore. Jinhai made a sound like a hungry animal, clearly displeased.

Ah, so now everyone was joining in as well. This would be difficult..oh well! As long as she avoided the other weapons. She'd just keep attacking this particular cardboard figure until it couldn't be attacked anymore. Atropos was screaming in her head for her to continue. Come on, Candace! Hurry up! I want moooooore~! Atropos pleaded, whining and whimpering. She wished she could move Candace's feet herself! But Candace was ignoring her for the moment to watch the others, the two missing in particular. Awww, poor...Madison, right? She tried not to laugh as she failed miserably at looking dramatic and cool with her own weapon, tapping her foot a moment.
"You alright over there, princess?" She called out to Madison, suddenly sighing heavily and looking down at her feet. "Alright already! Jesus Christ!" Candace hopped from foot to foot for a moment to work up some momentum, following the beat of the song currently playing before she folded her arms by her chest, put all of her weight into one foot and lifted the other, swinging it around to hit the cardboard figure.
Yes! Yesyesyes! This is how it's DONE--AHHHH! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! Candace lost her balance and fell to the ground before the blade could make contact with the figure. Atropos shrieked, and Candace winced.
"Sorry! Sorry." ********. She messed up. That was unacceptable.

Try again, Kouki urged, sounding much too calm; Madison was about to mentally let her weapon have it when-
"Your swords are awesome! I'm Bix by the way."
Madison blinked stupidly at the other Hunter for a moment, then relaxed all at once; being talked to by someone who wasn't her weapon was sufficient shock to bleed away some of that rising internal anger. "Uh... um... hi? I mean... sorry. I'm Madison," she said, with a sigh followed by a smile. "I guess I let coming in late get to me. Um." She'd seen the other Hunter before, but never up close - and ooh, he was cute! And had gorgeous hair!
And he was asking her more questions. Crap. "Um, nope - they - he - all talk at once. It kinda sounds like four people talking, but exactly at the same time? He tries to help, but... I dunno. I wish he had an easier shape, like yours." She nodded at his - what was that, a bow? Yes, definitely a bow. Oh, man, that was so much better than swords.
Hey, Kouki said, and she paused for a moment. The weapon actually sounded hurt.
Sorry, she thought back, apologetically. Even if it looked easier to point a weapon at something and pull a trigger or a string or whatever, it probably... wasn't, really. I bet, um. I bet you can do cooler things than just shooting arrows, right?
Yes, Kouki mumbled, after a moment. Try again?
Madison nodded, both at Kouki and at Bix. "It's going to be a lot of hard work for me. I didn't even know how to use, like, kitchen knives before, haha..." Her voice trailed off in surprise as another call came her way. Princess?! She wasn't sure whether to be insulted or... or not. But the word hadn't sounded unkind...
Nonplussed, she nodded at Candace as well, then turned to stare at the target. Right. She took a deep breath, then rushed the target once more. Her strike was more like chopping wood, but it actually hit, lopping off one of the target's arms. A strange tingle seemed to spread up the blade to her hand.
Followed by a wave of hungry satisfaction from the swords. Do it again. Oh, and use one of our other blades, Kouki demanded.

Honestly, she had called her princess because she couldn't...remember her name. She had called Ariane a princess at some point, if she remembered correctly! Candace laid on the ground and pouted for a minute, glaring at the sky. Stupid balance. Stupid gravity. Get up! Get up! Get up!
"You know, you're really getting on my nerves right now. It's like giving an addict a drug they've been unable to get for years...ugh." That was probably exactly what it was, too. Great. But Candace complied and pushed back up to her feet, trying not to cut her own shins with the tips of her blades. It was odd, though maybe she shouldn't be so worried about it.
Madison was the closest person to talk to, being one of the few here with a close-ranged weapon like her at the moment. "How's your weapon taking this? Mine is screaming in my head for more." Candace sighed, attempting what she had done moments before. But this time she tried standing on the other foot and not standing flat-footed, turning on her toe now to keep herself moving.
This time the blade connected with the cardboard and grazed it, leaving a small cut in its side. Atropos squealed with delight as Candace settled on two feet again. There we go, much better! But it wasn't good enough. Candace wanted to lop off one of this figure's limbs. Then it would be good enough.

Jordan looked up in time to see Bix nail his target solidly with an arrow, then Madison slicing an arm off her cutout a moment later. "Good shot," he called over towards them, grinning.
Less talking, more hitting.
Jordan huffed a quiet laugh and braced himself again. He could already tell he was going to be sore tonight. While Ferros's weight seemed easily tolerable when he was just carrying the weapon, swinging him around was already starting to pull at Jordan's arms. Weight training, of a sort. He almost laughed.
He was expecting the silent roar this time, and it actually seemed to help him put muscle into the swing. The cutout's head went flying. Being cardboard, it didn't fly far, but that had been pretty satisfying.
