Riley didn't seem at all taken aback by El's tone. "Well you're alone right now, aren't you," she asked in a reasonable tone. "You seem pretty cautious around new people, so I figured you wouldn't lightly accept someone as a permanent traveling partner until you knew that you both harmonized." She tilted her head, her smile a bit wry. "Like you said, not a whole lot of foxes travel constantly. We're either couples or loners. By chance or choice, but it all pans out to being alone either way."
Riley herself was a chance loner. She did at least have Kiyo half the time, but there were moments she thought longingly of having a partner to travel with her full-time. She just nevered seemed to meet anyone who could keep up with her itching feet, so after awhile it hurt less to quit trying and just take the doses of lonely as they came.

"Well yeah I am alone right now...but that doesn't mean I like to be alone all of the time." El pouted his lip slightly as he looked at the female, she was twisting his words dang it. "I'm only cautious because I never know if someone is going to try and eat me."
He sighed, "Though I suppose that I should try to get over that. But I just can't seem to." He shrugged his shoulders, "But I wouldn't mind traveling with someone." El looked at her pointedly, "I mean....if you are going the same direction as me maybe we could...."

Riley chuckled a bit. "Then you were just a loner by chance. Doesn't mean you wanted it that way, it was just the hand dealt to you."
She stepped forward until she was almost in front of El. The horns gave him the illusion of being a heck of a lot taller than he actually was, when really he wasn't that much bigger than normal foxes. At least she wouldn't have to get kinks in her neck from staring up at him, that was something.
"I wouldn't say I'm really traveling. More like wandering." She met El's eyes, giving him a crooked smile. "Difference is that it doesn't really matter where I go or travel since I don't have a specific destination in mind, so my path is subject to change depending on the situation."
Her head tilted an inch to the right. "What about yourself? Got a destination in mind, or are you just wandering?"

El watched the vixen move even closer. Normally he wouldn't have let anyone get this close to him, but he didn't sense any danger from this vixen. So he supposed it was alright to let her stand by him. "I guess....I'm wandering too." He shrugged his shoulders back, "I never really ever thought about where I was going so." He chuckled.
"I'm a wanderer as well it looks like. I just move onto the next place after awhile. Depends on how long I want to stay in one location. Lately that has been about a week before I move onto the next forest."

Riley hummed thoughtfully under her breath. "Well I certainly wouldn't mind wandering with you. You seem like you'd be very interesting company." She bit her lip and hesitated a moment, then shrugged and seemed to mentally take the plunge. "I just gotta warn you before you decide though. Remember what I said, about Kiyo usually being good at finding me and vice versa? Well he'll probably find me, and come dropping out of the sky from out of nowhere."
She looked up at El, trying to gauge his reaction. "I promise, he really is harmless. He's just got such an....enthusiastic personality, it came be a bit off-putting at first."

El looked at her and thought about it. Was he bothered by the fact that a winged creature could come barreling out of the sky at any moment. Riley was right about one thing, he did need to get over his fear of being eaten. This Kiyo was her friend, and he had been reassured many times that he wouldn't try to eat him.
Sighing, he nodded his head.
"I need to get over this irrational fear of winged creatures Riley, you were right about not all of them trying to eat me. I suppose I allowed a few bad experiences cloud my mind."

Riley chuckled, relaxing a bit. "Ain't that life, trying to teach us personal growth through highly traumatic events. You don't get the lesson the first time, it just seems to keep repeating until it sinks in. Hmmmm."
She tapped a paw on the ground, her expression an overexaggeration of thoughtfulness. "Maybe we should go on a journey to find the Deity in charge of life lessons and have a chat about his or her methods."

He looked at her for several minutes trying to decipher whether she was being serious or not. Finally he determined that it didn't really matter so he let out the breath he didn't know he had been holding and shifted from foot to foot.
"So...." he tried to think of a neutral subject to talk about, "Do you feel like going hunting?"

Riley paused, taking stock of her body. "Hmmmm. Well assuming we're not going to do any heavy traveling today, I think I could do with a meal."
She recalled something El had asked her about Kiyo and tilted her head. "Do you eat meat or are you a vegitarian?"

El was slightly taken back by the question. "I eat meat. Whenever I can find it." He smiled slightly, "Though I do enjoy veggies as well so...I suppose you could say that I try to keep a well balanced diet." He shrugged his shoulders back, then cocked his head to the side. "Do you eat meat?"
Hadn't she mentioned something about her friend being a vegetarian? Did that mean she was too?

((XD Kiyo does eat meat, but usually only really big animals. He thinks smaller ones are too cute to eat.))
Riley smiled. "Yes, I eat meat. I find hunting a wonderful form of exercise, it keeps my stealth skills sharp. I just wasn't sure if you did or not since your genetics are mixed with a herbivore."
She stretched, loosening muscles that had gone stiff while standing. "So what should we hunt? You probably know this land better than me right now, and what we'd encouter on it."

El looked at her surprised, she seemed to put more thought into his genetics then he did himself. "I have no idea what they are. But I do enjoy meat as well as vegetables so...I do hunt. I am not the best hunter, but I can still manage when I am hungry enough." He grinned at her slightly, "It depends on what you would like to hunt though. I seem to have the worst luck with rabbits. They are too fast for me to catch. That and they like to hide."

Riley chuckled. "Rabbits aren't so hard once you get the trick of it down. When they see danger they tend to freeze and watch for awhile until you get too close. The trick is sneaking around them, either out of sight or slowly drifting closer, then you put on a burst of speed and hope you catch the rabbit before it finds a warren. It's good practice for improving your speed."
She chuckled again, this time a bit ruefully. "Though I'll admit, I still get rabbits that are faster or most twisty than others, and they manage to evade me. I don't think anyone can have a one hundred percent success rate hunting those things."

El nodded his head, "Hunting is always a risk. And sometimes you have to go hungry. I know that has happened to me more times then I would care to admit." He blushed slightly as he looked away.
"Though I have never had much luck with rabbits. They seem to be the one creature that can give me the most trouble." He frowned as he pondered it, "I think that it is because I am not stealthy enough." He pouted.

Riley chuckled, weaving over to El to nudge him with her shoulder and moving back to her previous spot. "You probably just try too hard. When something's trying to be sneaky, usually it's up to no good. And it's very hard to sneak up on a rabbit."
She looked El over, lips pursed thoughtfully. "Hmmm. Ya know, if you were upwind of the rabbits, with those horns of yours, I bet you could fake them out by pretending to be a grazer and you could just sort of wander close to them. You ever tried it before?"
