Ion sniffed the air. Maybe he could smell them? "I think they will be a little higher up, don't you think?" he asked her. He was unaware that wide golden eyes were watching he and his mate. The panther lay high up in the craggy gorge and watched the horses get closer and closer. The wind was blowing away from the horses so they wouldn't smell him yet.

Opal shrugged. "That I do not know. Since I never even smelt a blueberry before. So since you know what they are you find em." She grinned widely at him. "So you think Tide would like being an uncle? Maybe he would teach any foals we had about fish." She starts musing what any foals of theirs could learn.

"Oh boy, Fish 101, Now this is a fin, do NOT pull on them or you WILL get splashed." Ion broke down into laughter almost startling the great tawney cat that was watching them. "Opal you truely are brilliant. Hmm if i were a blueberry where would i be?"

Opal giggled. "I can see one of the foals trying to eat a fish and Tide starring in horror yelling NO YOU DON'T EAT IT!" Cracks up laughing at the image in her head of a foal standing with the tail of a fish hanging out of it's mouth and Tide going nutso over it. She laughed a long hard laugh until tears were rolling down her cheeks. "If I was a blueberry I would be hanging out near water so I could grow big, plump and juicy."

" Ahaha yes me too, wait do you hear something?" A rock hand scraped against he ground and Ion couldn't see where. "What was that?" he stood in front of Opal in a defensive posture. What he didn't expect was the great tawney beast flying from above and onto his back. Claws dug into his hide and large teeth had sunk into his crest. "Ahhh! Opal run! Run now! Oh no you don't you slimey cat, IM GOING TO BE A DAD AND YOU ARE NOT GOING TO EAT ME!" Ion began to thrash, buck kick and stumble trying to dislodge the panther on his back.

Opal blinked standing still. What the hell was that? She couldn't run she knew that. And if she tried to run this thing would see that she was lame and go after her. She looked around then grabbed a dead branch off the ground in her teeth. She swung it at the cat hitting it full force with the branch. "Git oaf im." She yelled around the branch. "He min!"

The panther hissed at Opal around a mouthful of Ion. Ion figured the cat was distracted and arched over backward, squashing the cat who ran off limping. The panther resolved to chase deer after that. Ion crawled up of the ground he dripped with sweat and blood. "I guess I need another bath huh?" he asked a small smile tugging his lips. At least Opal was unhurt. Thank Goodness Thali hadn't come with him and it was good the cat hadn't seen Opal run. "Thank you, I think you got him."

Opal dropped the branch starting to examine his back. "Are you alright? And what was that?" She didn't travel much this way and had never encountered a cat like this before. She looked around spotting a small creek. "Come on. Lets go get you washed up so I can get a better look at this." She headed over to the creek. "And it would have been foolish for me to try and run away Ion. Predators tend to pick off the weak. And right now I'm weak."

"That was a Puma, I am sore but will heal alright thanks to you." he shuddered. "Truth be told, I had forgot about your knees, it is a good thing you didn't limp climbing up here or he would have chosen you, however once they get their claws in (into me on this case) they rarely let go of their prey." He smiled at Opal. "And someone who is weak does not beat a big cat like that off with a stick, you are stronger than you think." He plunged into the water and bit his lip as it stung the claw marks.
"Oh look Opal, blueberries," he nuzzled a bush on the shore that was covered in the little blue fruit.

Opal eyed him. "Does it hurt?" She looked at the bush. "Those are blueberries?" She ambled over to the bush trying some of the berries. "Ohhh these are yummy!" She continued to munch on them.

He gave her a flat look. "Yes it hurts but better, me than you." Ion wandered over slowly and sampled some berries. "Oh, they are sweet, just like you my dear," he smiled winningly at his lovely mate. He held a branch out for her so she could munch a few berries off.

Opal softly sighed. "I'm sorry Ion. Maybe we would have been safer if we had went for a run instead of here." She ignored the berries he was offering to rub her head against his. "I love you Ion. And would be lost if something really bad happened to you. We should be more careful." She gave him a loving nuzzle.

He dropped the berries and nuzzled her back. "True, but we had no idea that there was a puma up here. It's not like he put a sign up saying, "I want to eat you beware!" he could have been on the plains too." Ion nuzzled Opal's face. "I would be devastated if anything happened to you my little river." He sighed in contentment as the smell of his mate calmed him while the adrenaline leaked from his system slowly.

Opal smiled. "Yes I guess that is true. It did not show signs that it was around." She continued to nuzzle him. "So now what shall we do?"
