The dream was already fading from Mitsu's mind and she was only left with a small glimpse of what it had been about. The highlights stuck in her mind before she had suddenly awoken. Pain and that malicious smile.
Hearing her name Mitsu turned to Xiu the essence of her panic slowly fading the longer she was awake. Mostly it was due to the realization that she was somewhere safe and not being harmed. "I..I'm okay." Mitsu stuttered. "I-I'm sorry I woke you."
She assumed her sudden movements had caused the girl to stir. The lycan really had no idea that Xiu had shared the dream with her and in fact knew more about the dream than Mitsu herself did. It was the subconscious mind that seemed to come out in Mitsu's sleep, mixing memory with her fears.
"I..I guess I had a bit of a nightmare..." She said softly. "I-I'll be okay though." Slowly she reached for the stuffed panduhr at her side and held it close to help comfort her.

"N-no, um...don't apologize! I...I wasn't sleeping very well in the first place." They wasn't entirely a lie, was it? Either way, Xiu wasn't sure if she should admit to Mitsu what she had accidentally done, and what she had seen as a result. Seeing all of that happen...how long had Mitsu been hiding all of this? Honestly, despite her shy exterior, the lycan was really quite a strong soul in Xiu's eyes. Looking at her now, she wondered how the other ghoul wasn't broken by her experiences.
The Baku said nothing when she reached out to her friend and hugged her, holding her for a few moments before pulling away. Then, as if nothing had happened, Xiu smiled and pushed her blankets off.
"Let's get you a drink. You must be thirsty!" She was too, actually. Her mouth had gone dry from everything she had just witnessed, and all she wanted was a nice, cold glass of water. As she hurried towards the kitchen, Xiu peered at her clock as she passed. Well, the dream had lasted for a lot longer than it felt. It was early morning now--most people would still be asleep still--but at this point, the Baku wasn't sure if either of them wanted to go back to sleep.
As she filled up the glasses, her voice filtered into the room from the kitchen area. "We've really made a lot of friends ever since we started attending Amity, don't you think?"

It was a relief to hear that Mitsu hadn't really woken the ghoul from her sleep. She would have felt pretty bad otherwise.
"I'm glad I didn't wake...you." Before Mitsu knew what was happening Xiu had reached out toward her to wrap her arms around her in a hug. While the baku had hugged her before at the moment it was a bit of a shock and it took Mitsu a moment to relax into the hug and return it. When she did she felt the mask of an expression she had put up fading as the tears began to fill her eyes. It had been so long since she had received comfort immediately after a bad dream, she had forgotten what it was like.
"Y..yes, a drink sounds good," Mitsu nodded as Xiu pulled away rubbing at her eyes. As the ghoul stood and headed toward the kitchen Mitsu wiggled out of her sleeping bag to follow. From the look on the clock it was still pretty early but she wouldn't try to sleep again. Maybe tomorrow night.
"Friends?" The sudden conversation change caught Mitsu off guard but it was a well needed distraction to keep her from feeling sorry for herself. "Yes, we've made a lot of friends. It's been an interesting and new experience for me." Considering she really hadn't had any at her other school.

Noting that Mitsu had followed her, Xiu smiled and simply turned around to offer one of the classes to the other ghoul. Leaning against the counter, she took a long sip and sighed with relief. Her throat really had been dry. For a while, she simply sipped at her glass of water silently as she mulled over what she had just seen and Mitsu's answer just now.
"It's nice, isn't it?" She said finally, grinning at the lycan, "This is all...kind of new to me as well, actually." It took a bit of consideration, but Xiu figured that since she had seen Mitsu's past...why not share a bit of her own? Hers was nothing like the other ghoul's though--there was no death, no physical torture, and she had been brought up in a rather wealthy family. Still, it only seemed fair, and the Baku already considered her to be a close friend.
Finishing off her drink, the Baku rolled the glass between her hands as she continued. "I mean, I was brought up taught that traditions, education, and class were the only things that was important. My parents weren't mean--just very strict--so they weren't the type of people you could talk about silly, fun things." Actually, they had kind of resented that kind of stuff. It definitely explained why most of Xiu's hobbies were kind of traditional, from brewing teas to her flute-playing. There wasn't much room for other stuff.
"I didn't have anyone my own age to talk to, so I usually spent time with my uncle. He's really nice--almost like a big brother, really. Between all the lessons and boring stuff I had to do, he was my only friend." She remembered how he would cheer her up when she was feeling especially frustrated or upset. She had always wondered how different she would be if her uncle hadn't been around.
Laughing suddenly, Xiu set the empty cup into the sink and grinned apologetically at Mitsu. "Haha, sorry. I'm just really happy to have come to this school and to have made all these new friends. It's nice not being alone, don't you think?"

As Xiu sipped at her glass of water Mitsu did much the same. It was certainly refreshing, Mitsu hadn't realized how thirsty she was until the liquid actually touched her tongue. In no time the water was gone and Mitsu carefully placed the glass in the sink.
Turning an attentive ear to her friend Mitsu listened to Xiu recount a little bit of her family life. "I...it sounded like it was lonely for you." Mitsu frowned a little. "A..at least you had your Uncle. He sounds nice." Mitsu smiled faintly though the mention of a big brother weighed a bit heavily on her. "I was taught to study a lot too. School is supposed to be important after all." Learn it, live it, love it. Because really you have no choice.
Mitsu would have mentioned more but Xiu quickly apologized. Shaking her head Mitsu smiled a bit more. "No, I'm happy too." Mitsu agreed. "It's nice not to be alone." There was a great deal of conviction to her words. It truly was great to no longer be alone.

"Yup! So...let's both remember that we'll always have friends here." Xiu remembered back to what she had seen in Mitsu's dream. First the ghoul had lost her parents, and then her brother. She had been in that darkness alone, and she had had to face that man--Suto, was it?--alone as well. It was different now though, wasn't it? At the very least, there were people who would open up their arms to the werewolf if she ever needed someone to talk to or confide in.
And of course, there had been that figure at the end of the dream who had saved her. The figure had seemed vaguely familiar, but...well, whoever he was, it seemed that Mitsu had his support as well.
"This is...kind of cheesy," Xiu grinned sheepishly, rinsing out the water glasses, "But thank you for being my friend, Mitsu. When I first arrived here, I was kind of scared that I wouldn't make any, but..." She trailed off and gave a little shrug. Then, clearing her throat with embarrassment, she gestured towards their sleeping bags.
"I suppose we won't be sleeping anymore."

There was a nod as Xiu said that they should remember. Yes, it was important not to forget. Mitsu just wished she could remember when her dreams were in full force. She really had no control over them though she heard that was possible.
As Xiu got her attention again Mitsu tilted her head when the girl mentioned what she was about to say would be cheesy. It might have been but it made Mitsu smile none the less. "And thank you for being my friend. I....really didn't expect to have friends when I came here either. I almost expected it to be like my other school. It was a nice surprise when I found out it wasn't."
Looking to the sleeping bags Mitsu shook her head. "N..no, I'm awake now." And a little too apprehensive to go back to sleep. Milo was still fast asleep on Xiu's bed though, curled up around Arashi and comfortably snoozing.

Just as she had been embarrassed saying it, hearing Mitsu say that she was glad they were friends made a warm flush rise on the Baku's cheeks. She truly was pleased though. Now that she actually knew a bit about the lycan's past...well, she knew that she wasn't the "high-reputed" friends that her parents wanted her to make, but it didn't bother Xiu in the least. She would take Mitsu and her other friends over rich and fancy ones any day.
...Besides, what her parents didn't know wouldn't hurt them, right?
"That's fine, I'm pretty awake too now." She smiled, waving her hand, "It looks that they're going to be sleeping for a while longer though." Motioning towards their pets, Xiu mused how adorable they were. The Boafox and Storm Melonkit had really just met, and yet they already seemed to hit it off great as friends.
"Did you want to go get breakfast?" It was a little early, but considering how some students didn't sleep in the first place, she was sure that the cafeteria would still be open. "We can just throw on a coat and get something to bring back."

Mitsu had to agree, Milo could sleep for hours on end but she felt bad disturbing him...even though the mini had little else to do other than play and sleep. Such a simple life he had.
Ears perked at the mention of breakfast. With a nod Mitsu moved toward her bag to grab her hoodie to throw over her pajamas. "I think breakfast sounds like a good idea." It had been a while since the lycan had anything remotely like breakfast so this would be a special treat.
Grabbing her mask from her bag Mitsu placed it over her face before she stood ready to go. "Lead the way." Her smile wasn't visible but it was present in her voice as she waited to follow the baku out of her room and toward the cafeteria.

Xiu pulled on a coat, watching with a tilted head as Mitsu put her mask back on. That reminded her, she had never asked why the werewolf wore that mask in the first place. Would it be too intrusive if she were to bring it up, she wondered?
Before she could mull over it too long, the other ghoul had spoken again. Smiling, Xiu grabbed her keys and then nodded, indicating that they were ready to leave. As she locked the door and walked out the demon dorms with Mitsu, the question slowly rose to the front of her mind again. "Mitsu..." There was some clear hesitation in her voice.
"If...if I may ask, why do you usually wear a mask in public?" There was a pause before Xiu hastily held up her hands, shaking her head furiously, "B-but you don't need to tell me, if you're not comfortable with it! I was just curious! Don't worry about it if it's private!"

Following Xiu out the door Mitsu never expected the question that the baku would ask her as they headed out of the demon dorms. She frowned behind her mask shifting a bit uncomfortably as she thought over how to answer.
"I...." There was a pause before she continued like she was struggling to put her words together. "I was made fun of a lot....because of how I looked. The school I went to had mostly monsters and if you weren't scary you were hardly a monster at all." Mitsu had certainly heard that a lot.
A hand came up to touch the mask lightly as Mitsu turned to Xiu. "I found this one day when I was going through some of the things my brother had kept from our parents. I'm not sure what it was for but I decided to wear it." There was a pause again as Mitsu sighed a little. "The teasing wasn't...as bad and I don't feel so out of place. It's comforting in a way to have it on."

The idea of Mitsu being teased actually made Xiu bristle with anger but, calming herself, she simply linked her arm with the other ghoul's and gave it a light squeeze. "I'm happy you came to Amityville then," She murmured after Mitsu was done with her explanation, "At least here, no one expects you to be scary right off the bat. That's what this school is for--so we can learn how to become frightening with time." Hell, look at her! Right now, Xiu was probably one of the least frightening first years on campus. She was making an effort to fix that with time and experience.
There was a pause, and then she added, "...Thank you for telling me." It wasn't an easy thing to admit, and the Baku smiled at her friend. Deciding that a topic change was a good idea, she put on an apprehensive expression as they neared the cafeteria.
"So, uh...what do you want to eat? I'm sure the cafeteria has food that's not...um..." She struggled to find the right words, recalling the meals that she usually saw served at lunch, "...Gloopy?"

Mitsu leaned close to Xiu as the girl linked her arm with hers. There was a smile but it went unseen behind the mask. "I'm glad I came here too." It was quite a bit less stressful. Mitsu really hadn't met anyone that had been mean to her. Everyone was much nicer and didn't expect her to be scary at the moment.
When Xiu thanked her for telling her Mitsu tilted her head curiously but nodded. "Y..you're welcome." It wasn't a huge secret, it was at least one that Mitsu could share. The lycan had no idea Xiu had a glimpse into the other secret she was keeping.
As far as food was concerned. "I..I'm not sure." The cafeteria food often left a lot to be desired but surely there was something they could find. "I..I'll just be happy with something that doesn't turn immediately after I get it." That had happened a couple of times. Mitsu had sat down to eat, turned away for a moment, and when she had looked back her food had.....crawled away.

If there was one thing the Baku was sure about, it was that if anyone tried to bully the lycan in Amity, Shun, Lizzy, and herself among others would be up in arms about it. The werewolf had found herself a lot of support in her new school.
Xiu wrinkled her nose at Mitsu's comment about the food. That was why she usually skipped out on the cafeteria and made her own lunch, but she thought that this would be easier. "...If there's nothing that's uh...edible, I'm sure I can whip up something fast back in the dorm room." She knew that the lunch selection tended to be terrible but...maybe the morning selection was a bit better?
A peek into the cafeteria determined that...well, while the breakfast food didn't look like mush, some of the things that had been set on the tray were trying to drag themselves off. The apple and orange combo had managed to get past the lip of the tray and was attempting to lopsidedly roll to freedom when it rolled right into Mitsu's shoe.
"...What do you think, Mitsu?"

Mitsu took note of what Xiu mentioned about whipping up something back at the dorm as they picked through the food trying to find something edible. It was a tad discouraging when the apple and orange thingy rolled off the tray and landed by her feet in a vain attempt to escape. "I..I can just skip breakfast....though I could eat some toast or something." It was simple, hopefully it wouldn't be any trouble to make. Even Mitsu could managed to make it....most of the time.
"Do we need to pick up anything?" She wasn't sure what Xiu had and she hated to keep eating up her food.
