A green! A very happy and vocal green. A green who went in entirely the wrong direction. It sure wasn't going to find its rider over there! She'd heard that dragonets went into the stands sometimes to look for Theirs, but...going over to already-Impressed dragonriders? Strange and unexpected, but also sort of adorable. But oh, what was that? The swirling egg looked about ready to break! While curious to see what would come out of it, she assumed it wouldn't be anything that would want her, unless it was a seriously enormous blue, so she turned her attention back to the green's little adventure.

A Green didn't hold much potential for Gauden, but considering she was the first hatchling of the lot, Gauden felt a spike of excitement. So this was what it was like. It was very little like being there when runners or herdbeasts give birth-- for one, he had a bit more to worry about than just standing around and waiting-- but he could feel echoes in that same sense of anticipation and excitement. The difference was he wasn't just helping the Beastcraft Hall get another runner; this creature, a partner, could be his.

Well, not her, he conceded as the Green got tired of orbiting the guiding light egg and trotted off to check out the riders. Seems to want someone not here. There was also the part where she was a Green. That made him pause. Why wouldn't he get a Green? Could he be sure of that? He knew there was something that made it unlikely he'd get one, but he couldn't remember what it was...

Hearing Hesian's warning, Zerivon gave a lopsided grin and nodded, murmuring; "Same to you! Be a shame to get blood on these nice white robes, hu?"

...And then the first egg hatched. It was an amazing sight, even though he'd seen dragons hatch before it was amazing. Ha, and wasn't she a sweet thing? It confused him a bit when she bounded off towards the riders rather than towards the candidates but she didn't look stressed and her mother didn't look concerned so he supposed there was no reason to worry about her... She really was cute. He wouldn't mind Impressing her at all. Although the swirling egg was now wriggling again he didn't pay much mind to it, knowing that the dragon inside would never choose him. Why was that, he wondered? Seemed strange to him, wasn't like flitts or whers cared who you were attracted to or even what gender you were... Still dragons weren't quite the same thing as flitts or whers, now were they?

Hesian nodded back at Zerivon, grinning as well. "My mother would make such a fuss! About the robes, of course, I 'spect by now she's used to me being a mess."

An egg was hatching! Hesian leaned forward as he watched a crack appear on the swirling egg, using the movement as an excuse to momentarily pick his feet up from the burning Sands. How were they say hot even in the middle of the night?! He mentally urged the egg on, but was quite disappointed when no more cracks followed the first.

But another moving egg, and the whispers and gasps of his fellow Candidates, soon caught his attention. He looked over at just the right time to see the orbiting egg spill a green onto the sands, and Hesian grinned at the sight. He cooed along with the others at her antics, and craned his neck to get the best look he could. It was the first baby dragon he had ever seen, and she certainly wasn't disappointing like that lame swirling egg.

That was until she turned towards the riders' stands, and left the Candidates behind. "Where does she think she's going," he said with some indignation towards Zerivon. "They already have dragons!" Still, no one seemed too overly concerned over her weird antics, and Hesian was content to follow their lead.

Oblivious to the confusion she was causing, the orbiting green continued on towards the riders, giving an occasional excited squeak. A sudden crack behind her, however, brought the little dragon to a screeching halt; the swirling egg was indeed hatching, the noise had been caused by long crack that had appeared on the shell before the green hatched out widening. The egg was still again then, but after only a very brief pause the shell split nearly clean in two along the big crack and a large richly coloured bronze clambered out of the egg. Even dripping with egg goo he had a certain presence to him: he stood upright and looked around himself with brilliant blue eyes, stretching out his wings to reveal handsome swirling patterns reminiscent of his egg.

The orbiting green gave an excited 'chirrp!' as her clutch sibling looked over at her and, abandoning her investigation of the riders, she stumbled and bounced across the hot sand to rub up against him and touch noses with him. As the green chirped and squeaked at him the big bronze gave a happy chirr of his own and nuzzled the smaller dragon fondly before raising his head to look around once more. Apparently reaching a decision he set off at a trot towards the female candidates, calling a happy greeting to them and nosing gently at those closest to the front; although he would of course find His amongst the male candidates it seemed he wanted to say hello to the ladies first.

Left on her own the orbiting green sat down, looking as deeply thoughtful and studious as it was possible for a goo dripping dragonet to look. At about the same time as the swirling bronze reached the female candidates the green set off in the same direction herself. When she arrived she nudged at her sibling again and then at a few of the girls. Abruptly, however, something else caught her attention. While it wasn't clear to anyone else what it was the little green knew exactly what it was: somebody over there in the stands had an exciting thing on their head! Squeaking her joy the orbiting green bounded off to investigate the bonneted person, shoving some female candidates aside in her haste but doing no worse than knocking them on their backsides.

As the bronze dragonet approached them, Melina grew even more confused. She hadn't heard about this much socializing at Hatchings - she had always thought the dragons just found Theirs and then left the sands. This was........nerve wracking! She greeted the little bronze fondly, oogling at his beautiful patterns and admiring him. As the little green nudged at some of the girls, Melina held her breath - was she choosing? Then, just as abruptly, she dashed off again, nearly knocking Melina over in her haste to go investigate something else. To say that Melina was bewildered would probably be an understatement.

She let loose a nervous chuckle - was all of this normal at hatchings? She trudged delicately back to her spot in the line wincing at the heat from the sands and having gotten out of the way of the excitable little green. She couldn't help but be amazed at her enthusiasm for life, but it was a little twanging on the nerves when the future course of one's entire life was possibly waiting on the little one to settle down. She watched the little green with a smile - something or someone in the stands was interesting her now.

Cetalese was having no luck with the guesses she had set down a few night before, but the thought didn't bother her. She had little interest in the skin of wine, but she was very interested in the two dragonets now on the Sands. The Bronze making his way towards the females wiped the excitement from her face and replaced it with a hint of curiosity.

"You said Bronzes--" Ceta began when the Bronze finally reached the group of girls and cheerfully checked out each one in turn. She looked down at the tiny Bronze, thinking of Scarath and how big this one would turn out to be, and a small smile lit her face. He wasn't finding his partner here. Either he was curious or he very much liked investigating females. The shove of a girl near her made Ceta release her tight grip on Eliza's hand and stumble, trying not to run into Eliza as well. She looked away from the Bronze and glanced to see why the girl had fallen. Her eyes scanned the girls-- some fallen and some recovering from stumbling-- and then they moved on to the path that had been cut through their group and a hand went lightly to her lips, half in amusement and half in sympathetic horror.

She was going to be a terror, but there was no way even the spectators now filling the stands could think she was anything but adorable. Which girl was going to be enough to contain that much exuberance? And... distraction?

Eliza's attention was drawn from the playful green when a loud crack announced the hatching of another egg - the swirling egg no less had decided to come into the world and what a nice looking fellow he was and bronze too just as she had predicted upon touching the shell.

Of course the bronze wouldn't want anything to do with the girls - well except to say hello of course which seemed to draw the attention of the little green back to what she ought to be doing and soon enough they were both snuffling around at the girls...until the green got distracted again and bounded straight through the line knocking several people down in the process to stare at someone in the stands. Eliza had only just managed not to fall down herself as Ceta stumbled into her slightly in the greens over rambunctious bounding and now she wondered if perhaps the little dragon would impress to someone in the stands.

Oh! A lovely bronze out of the swirling egg! She'd certainly figured the egg for a larger male, and his actions towards his small green sister only pegged him as further of a sweetheart. A well tempered clutch indeed. Lena was amused he chose to greet the women first; was it gentlemanly politeness that spured the action or was the bronze a bit of a flirt, then?

The green's ability to sit quietly and look pensive for all of a short period of time was nothing short of remarkable, given that once she'd made up her mind to see the girls, it took not long at all for something else to catch the flighty green's attention. Lena stepped to the side of the exciteable green, and wondered if perhaps only tripping over Hers was going to be the way she Impressed. At least she wasn't distressed about it?

"Don't know," Zeirvon murmured, "I can't imagine her rider is over there... Oh, hello there." The large swirling egg was moving again, and before long it spilled out what was unmistakably a bronze. Ah well, not for him, but it looked like a friendly sort of a dragon which was a good start. The greeting between the pair of dragonets that came a moment later was endearing to say the least, but then he did remember both eggs giving out a friendly sort of a feeling...

Hu, and now the bronze was going over to the girls? "Seems like neither of them are in a hurry," Zerivon observed softly to everyone around him, watching as the green followed after her sibling... and then raced off towards the stands? Had she sensed her rider up there somewhere? He hoped not, he was still kind of hoping she'd come over and choose him; even if she did seem a bit dappy she also seemed like just about the most adorable creature ever to live. Standing up on the balls of his feet to give the rest of them a break from the heat of the sands Zerivon watched the little creature wistfully. If she came to him he'd take good care of her, no question about that.

The Bronze that popped from the swirling egg seemed to awe everyone and even Gauden paused to consider the good omen that have a Bronze hatch so early on brought. Not first egg, of course, but second was still good. His eyes moved to the burning egg very briefly, amazed that egg hadn't cracked sheerly out of the competitive animosity it felt for the Bronze when they were both still eggs.

A thought occurred to him. Hadn't he put Bronze down on the betting sheet? He thought he had. It was a minor matter in the back of his mind as he watched the Green besiege the Bronze and then, eventually, the caring Bronze move away from his hyperactive sister toward the female Candidates. Gauden frowned slightly, his brows knitting together. Bronzes didn't choose females. It just didn't happen. His partner couldn't be over there, so what was he doing? He'd heard one of his fellow Candidates exclaim in outrage over the Green approaching the riders' stand instead of the Candidates. He could only imagine the sounds and phrases he would think of for this offense. Gauden's face smoothed out. The Bronze-- like his sister Green-- would pick when they saw to it then. He didn't realize dragonets were so round-about in their selection though. For the speed he'd been told Hatchings usually went at, it felt as if this was a very slow start.

Jayden watched the green as she moved about the sands - though she didn't seem all that interested in anyone at the moment, it wasn't until some of the other males around him started murmuring that he realized another egg had hatched...a bronze and a nice looking one too!

He was a little bit confused as to why the hatchling was heading over tothe girls but figured he had his reasons, perhaps he was just polite like that, no point in being mean even if he wouldn't impress to them right? IT was about that time that the little green decided to barrel through the line of girls..a few were knocked down but as far as he could see there didn't look to be any blood - lucky.

V’al took a seat near to the front, though he wasn’t so pushy as to demand the first row. Meanwhile, on the perches, Lerath’s hum turned to a startled warble as he made way for Sleeth. At their own hatching, they had broken their shells at nearly the same time and taken turns politely insisting the other take a pick of the white-robed humans first. As he had then, Lerath warbled a greeting to her before resuming his humming.

V’al squinted speculatively at the little green as it approached. Of course, there was no possibility of her finding anyone of her liking among those Impressed, but he wondered just how long she would waste her time. He was mostly relieved when it finally returned to the newly hatched bronze, but grimaced as the flighty thing took off for the stands towards who-knew-what distraction. “I hope her mother reins her in soon, before she gets startled or scared between,” he muttered under his breath. He’d seen a green go Between at the hatching where Lerath had found him, and had no wishes to see the spectacle again.

And there it went. The first egg that'd only had the large crack in it finally cracked to produce a magnificent looking bronze dragonet. A small gasp of awe at seeing yet another dragonet hatch had escaped her. Watching him spread his wings and look around, Narisa felt...admiration for the hatchling? Something. There was a presence about this one. And speaking of presence, it seemed that the hatching of her sibling caused the darling little green to refocus on him instead of the riders.

To her surprise, the bronze didn't wander around as the green had been. Nor did he go over towards the boys on the left side. Instead, he came towards them. The girls. A happy sound raising up in greeting as he ambled over to them. It was amusing to see. He nosed at some of them, gaining a small laugh from the vintner as she watched him. Apparently, he liked to say hi to the ladies first. And then the green was bumbling over to join the bronze. Both nosed and nudged and Narisa was able to run a hand briefly along one of them (she wasn't sure which) before, yet again, something had drawn the attention of the green. "That one seems to be easily distracted." She mused.

Lilias watched the proceedings with a happy glint in her eyes and a smile on her face. The green was full of life and cavorting about quite a lot, she must not be very hungry, thought Lilias. Her eyes almost crossed when the bronze ambled over and the green scampered back to the stands. What odd but welcome behavior from two delightful hatchlings. Evidently the little bronze was going to be a ladies man. She had sighed with pleasure at the show of affection between the bronze and green earlier and was delighted that these two had hatched first as they started the hatching of with a bang. She resisted the urge to stick her tongue out at the male candidates. She was a proper sea holder candidate and would behave as such. But a mischievous light danced in her eyes.
