Carefully she replied... sounding out the words he spoke first "...something my lady..." She said. "But I'm... not sure what the first word was..." She hung her head blushing. "It's too much, I'll save for it, I promise...pick something smaller!" She said shaking her head in sudden comprehension.

Either the english in his mind had just imploded, or he was playing stupid.
Most likely the latter.
If she said no now, then plan b would go in motion.

"I...you!" She gave him her -best- Librarian look to now avail, even going so far as to click her boot heels together before struggling to find the words.
"ah...Sie ... Sie sprechen Englisch!" She said, half a demand half a statement. "I -know- you do! you were just...oooo!" She laughed and shook her head. "...I wonder if you are ticklish."

He was grinning up to the point where tickling was mentioned, and that was when his face changed.
Well, s**t.
"Alright, alright, I give, I forfeit !" Yes, he had no want to be... tickled.... in public.
...And he suddenly seemed to remember that they were, in fact, in public.
And he'd just made a fool out of himself.
...
AHHHHH !
"Well, then... This one ?" He held out another.
Defeated...

She looked -very- pleased with herself, not only had she 'won' she found out something important, he was ticklish. She held up one finger as though to say 'one moment' and walked carefully between the rows till she found one of her favorite places in the shop....in any shop really. Her collection of things she could use to pin up her hair with was... a little scary perhaps.
She picked through the bin till she found the perfect one, it was a touch oversized, a mahogany stick with silver wire wrapped around the top, ornamented by small silver leaves and 'thorns', but the top was a garnet 'rose'.
She held it up for him to examine. "Something small..." She said with a smile. "But.. just as sweet."

Well, small was perhaps the emphasis. Through, well, he had yielded. "Very well, my lady."
...Now he was just hoping she would exploit his newfound weakness too much.
Hopefully.
"Did you still feel like coffee ? I know a nice place around here..." He started stepping toward the register.

"I would love some." She beamed at him. "If you're still up for that." She brushed his arm, and very politely did -not- tickle. Though he might in the future have to think of ways to...distract her. Somehow it was probably not going to be a problem.
