When Demi began to flounder in his research, and then whine, Jove gave him a look that said "Why are you going through more books if you don't want to?" It was an appropriate expression for the pup who had already given up on the task. He wasn't even thinking about his assignment anymore.
He had briefly entertained the thought of talking to some of his healthy friends who engaged in boilfriend/ghoulfriend relationships, and seeing how they managed to avoid body mold and crustaceans, but when it came right down to it, he wasn't all that interested. He had his answer. Kissing was gross when it was on the lips with someone you didn't know, and still kinda gross when it was someone you did know, but the latter was less likely to make you sick.
He just watched Damien for a little longer, and then stood up to inspect the nearby bookshelves. Maybe he would find another good book about fungi there.

Demi really wasn't sure sometimes what Jove was trying to tell him on various occasions. Like right now, he wasn't sure if the boil was saying "why are you bothering?" or "I feel gassy." You could never tell with the silent Boil.
What Demi knew for sure was that books was not the way to go for today, maybe creature watching and observing made more sense. Like making a study about it, during one hour in a populated place and tabulate what they saw in a public setting.
He knew in his own experience, that the rate of intimate expressions of adoration in public is far less than in a private setting. However, looking up and seeing Jove going through a book about fungi, just made him think he went back to mushrooms.
"Hey Jove, maybe you should get mold on your tummy and grow your glowy mushrooms there." he said after awhile, and proceeded to find books about the mold for later use.

Jove wrinkled his nose, still facing the old, dusty books on the shelf. He did turn to stick his tongue out at the hellhound. Mold on his stomach? No thank you, that was gross, and it would be even worse going out of his way to acquire said mold. He didn't want to let any strangers kiss him, that would be weird!
Besides, he had a perfectly good place to grow mushrooms back in his room.
He idly pulled out one slightly-less-boring-looking book, sending up a cloud of dust as it came free of the shelf. It was just enough to make Jove sneeze a little, a couple tiny, cute little sneezes in a row. That was enough of that!
He shoved the book back onto the shelf, and then sneezed a little more as he picked up his own things and made motions to leave the library. They should do something else, maybe he could show Demi the mushrooms under his bed!

Really now, it was so difficult for Damien to not think of how cute the little foxfire was, with his tongue out. He thought it would be really cute for Jove to have his little mushrooms like a little portable nightlight.
And the bout of sneezes just made it even worse, and he had to fight the urge to pinch the shorter boil's cheeks. Of course he was only joking about Jove getting mold, it would be a bright day in Halloween if Jove ever acted unsafe and had that happen.
It looked like Jove was ready to pack it in much like himself and the hellhound hustled to grab his own notes and catch up to Jove and flopped over his shoulders, taking full advantage of the height difference.
Yes, friendly contact had its own moments where it beats kissing. "Now let's see where the day takes us, eh bro?" he barked out happily as they left the library and its private study session behind, but not the lessons that they both learned.
