† Hey, if you wouldn't mind, I've had my eye on an ESP for a few months.. and I hunger for it, but I'm not sure if I should actually get it... † † I've been playing for about nine months now, with a silly Squier (Fender) starter bass pack that I got for Christmas of 05.. †
† I guess I'm asking if I could get a quick review for it. † † The link is here... Check it out for me, please? †
† I'll accept any advice, thoughts, or opinions you have.. thanks. †

Has anyone here had any experience with a Fender 5-String Standard Jazz? I was looking at them, and I think I should get one, but I haven't heard anyhitng about them from other players. Plus, I was wondering if I should try a fretless of the same model, but I need some feedback whether to go fretless or not. Here's a link to what I was looking at. Fender 5-String Jazz Bass

Mine was around $300 and if you aren't willing to pay $750 for that one, I recommend you go for an F-104. Plus, I got it in black cherry finish, so it looks as good as it plays. F-104This is mine, only mine is red. I know it isn't as flashy as that one, but it is a nice choice if you don't wanna break the bank.

I have a fender 5 jazz and love it...But thats only if you have owned a 4 string before...I wouldnt recomend a 5 string with out you getting your hands used to a 4 string first.
But if you dont really care about my advice on getting a 4 first I'll just tell you that its really good with tone and I like how it reacts to what I want it to do...Oh and I recomend not getting a fretless.

I want to buy a bass that sounds like a MusicMan, but cheaper. Should I go for an OLP MM3?

Anybody know anything about Violin Basses? My main concern is have you seen any 6 string violin basses?
I'm thinking about asking for one for Christmas, would it be worth giving up all my Christmas presents for?
Or...
SHould I save up and get a 7-string? I've played 6 for about 3 months now, and I love how the sevens sound. But what's your favorite seven and why? WHat does it sound like.(Compare it to a Rick, Musicman, or Fender please.)
OPTION 3!:

What do you guys think of that? I dig Ibanez sound. But have any of you played it? I'd like to know how well it plays, is the neck fast or is it like a P-bass neck? Do you know if I can find it cheaper somewhere also?

I ended up with a Schecter Diamond Series Stiletto Custom-5. It is in a black satin finish. I bought it used, they don't sell the version I got anymore. It looks like the Custom-4 model in black satin, it has the same diamond inlay and design, but it's just an older version of the Custom-5. Looks, sounds, and plays great. I would certainly recommend this for anyone. And about the 5 string thing, it's actually easier to play on a 5 string if you want some extra speed and precision. But like you said, you gotta get used to a 4 string first.

Do you know if I can find it cheaper somewhere also? Sheesh, too many strings for me, I don't need the extra high note on the six string, so I just stick to the 5. What are the primary strings that you actually use, because if you do not use the extra high notes, you could save some cash by getting something with less strings and tuning to your needs. I don't mean to criticize you, I have never heard you play. I can see using a six string, but if you don't need all the notes on it, just tune it to the notes that you want from the seven string and eliminate an extra string and the extra cost. If cost is of no problem for you, go for it! Also, I DO know that Hofner has released a version of the Violin bass for cheaper, and Epiphone has the four string Viola, but I have no clue if Hofner has made a six string model. If you dig Ibanez, I suggest you simply try it out, I had no clue how Schecters played until I tried one, and that is my current five string. Also, you might aim to try out at least a five string on the Ibanez, because you never know about the finishes or how fast a wider neck plays on different brands. The only brands that I can truly vouch for as having a quick neck are ESP, Schecter (Wonderful satin feel on the Stiletto), and certain Fenders (Definitely not the P-bass though).

That depends on the quality. Ibanez ranges from piece of crap to fairly nice. The best way to tell the quality of an Ibanez is the price. Ibanez isn't like the bigger brands, with knockoffs and cheap beginner versions, so the range of products goes from beginner to expert.

Actumen I'm looking to buy a new bass, because my current one is not so good. sweatdrop I was originally going to buy a six string, but I've decided I'd like to learn to play slap, so I threw that idea out. What would be a good bass to start slapping on in the $0-$300 (Preferably like $100-$250, most desire for free. domokun ) range? A bonus would be if it were a five string. Currently I'm playing a vintage Lyle bass, though I don't know specifically what kind. sweatdrop Edit: I'm kind of changing my mind about slap, and considering buying this bass. Is it any good/would it be worth the money? ive been looking at that one too and it looks pretty good...but ive got no munny so no bass for me today.Yay Six-strings

'ello. I've had the Fender Beginner's Bass Kit for a couple months, and it helped me really get into playing bass, but i'm curious: when it comes time to upgrade, should i get a 5-string, since you have the 5th string to add more to play with, and a lot of rock bands use 5-string, or should i get a Real 4-string to replace the one I have now? And what brand would you recommend, or would Fender be okay to stick with? thanks in advance. pirate
