"Once, but I cannot fly that far on my own yet, it takes a lot more experience than I have."
Not that he hadn't tried, pushing the limits higher with each flight. He had learned the hard way that one should listen to the elders, the stories they told were often more than just fairy tales told to frighten little dragons into behaving.
"I suppose, I never really thought of it that way."
He had never really called himself studious, not when there was so much he did not know, so little he had learned. But then, he did spend a lot of time reading and studying, well she did have a point.
"I hadn't noticed you liked cooking at all."
He smiled, his words of course a jest. If she didn't like cooking, she'd have never offered to teach him, even thought he had covered her counters with a coating of flour and oil. Hmm, maybe cooking would become his hobby as well, at least he was going to give it a try.

"Someday, then." She nodded firmly, knowing that Sheridan would eventually gain all the experience that he needed. She knew that he would! "You'll tell me what it's like, won't you?" It was more of a request than a question, and she grinned up at the boil with a hopeful expression.
Laughing, she stuck her tongue out at his teasing. "Well, now you know." Xiu answered, looking amused, "It's a fun and tasty hobby to have. We should cook again sometime! Or maybe bake?" For a moment, she drifted off into her own thoughts as she considered the possibilities. Spookies, cupcakes...
...Oops! Right, the telescope! Hmmm, what to look at?
"Do you have a favourite star, moon, or galaxy?"

The dragon nodded. "I'll be sure to tell you all about it." Hmmm, baking? That sounded interesting, and safe, at least safer that hot oil. Oh Sheridan, if only you knew, baking is not as 'safe' as you may hope. He had picked up one of the books, flipping through the pages, searching for one particular image. Ah, here it was, the eagle nebula. There were several images on the page, including one of the formation as a whole as well as closer images of multiple structures within the nebula. "You can't see it with this telescope, but I like this one." He handed her the book. It was the largest of the books he brought, a collection of deep space photographs and charts. If ever there was anything to spark interest in deep space, it was the photographs in this book.

Xiu could definitely see why this particular nebula was one of Sheridan's favourites. She examined the image closely, tilting her head a bit as she squinted at the image. "Is it supposed to look like an eagle? Is that where it's name is from?" She attempted to make out an eagle from the image, but found that it was rather difficult to do so. Perhaps it was named such for a different reason.
"It really is beautiful though," She smiled, giving up on her hunt, "I love all of the different colors! What a pity that it can't be seen from the telescope." Gingerly, she flipped through some of the pages, taking in images of other nebulae. Finally, she stopped on one picture in particular, her eyes widening.
"It looks like an eye!" She squeaked, pointing to the colorful image. She scanned the caption, running across the words "Helix Nebula". Was that what this particular nebula was called? "I like this one!"

"At one time someone thought it looked like an eagle, though I never thought it looked much like one."
Sheridan smiled, watching as she looked through the book, his gaze settling briefly on each image as the pages were flipped. Ah, helix, that one was quite beautiful as well.
"It requires a telescope much larger and much more powerful than this one to see that far into space I'm afraid."
Unfortunately for the dragon, even the larger telescope in his room was far from powerful enough to view objects that distant. For now he would have to settle for looking at the photographs in books and on his computer.

Surprisingly enough, Xiu didn't seem too disappointed by this fact anymore. "At least we have these pictures, right?" She chirped optimistically, letting her eyes sweep over the image again. Of course, it would be wonderful to be able to see it for herself but...well, she would have to settle for what she had.
A sudden thought occurred to her and she glance over to the clock, frowning slightly. It was getting kind of late, wasn't it? "Should you be sleeping soon?" The Baku looked a little concerned, and then glanced back to the telescope. She didn't want to stop, but...well, they would have to stop eventually, wouldn't they? And there were always other times that she could ask Sheridan over to teach her more.
Smiling a little sheepishly, she gestured towards the clock. "I don't want to keep you. It's been a long day after all!" Quite a fun day though, that was for certain. Cooking with a new friend was always enjoyable! "I just...ah..." Looking embarrassed now, she scratched the side of her head awkwardly, "I apologize again for falling on you like that in the library. Thank you...for catching me?"
...Not that he had had much of a choice.

Sheridan nodded. Pictures were certainly better than not being able to see the nebulae at all, and far more portable than the massive telescope required to see them otherwise. Still, as spectacular as the photos were, they couldn't quite compare to seeing them in person.
"Hmm?"
Oh, the time! He had completely lost track, and it seemed it had gotten rather late without him noticing. It wasn't that he was especially tired, or that he didn't often loose track of time and stay up far later more often than he cared to admit. However there was a matter of a certain cat...
"You're welcome."
He blushed slightly as he spoke, his tail twitching.
"I...do you have any more of those spookies left? I promised my cat I'd bring him back something, and I fear for my books if I don't."
There was a sheepish tone in his voice. He felt bad asking, but he'd make it up to her later.

Xiu was surprised by the request, but definitely not upset. "I do!" She chirped, immediately putting all her items to the side so that she could go and grab some more spookies, "I still have a lot, actually! I'd actually appreciate if you took them off of my hands." Grinning, the Baku entered the kitchen so that she could wrap up some more spookies for her friend to take home. Now that she knew that Sheridan had company in the form of his cat, she was sure to add a couple of extras to the package.
And by couple, it really meant practically double the initial amount. Hopefully that wouldn't be too much but, honestly, Xiu wasn't sure she could finish all of this alone, so giving it away to those who enjoyed them seemed like the ideal choice for her.
Grinning a bit sheepishly, she walked out of the kitchen area with the spookies in her arms. They were arranged neatly on a large plate, and was then wrapped up in colored cellophane and a ribbon. "Is this enough for you two?"

Sheridan had only intended to ask for a few cookies, which would hopefully be enough to satisfy cat for the night and spare his books and his tail from any retaliation. The plate of cookies that Xiu returned with was far more than he had expected. Was she really giving him that many?
"Wow, that is more than enough, thank you."
He smiled, certainly happy to take the cookies off her hands. With these cookies, maybe he could keep that cat of evil happy enough to leave his tail alone for a while.
"If you have any questions, want some ideas, or just want to talk about what you've see, let me know, I'll be happy to oblige."
A gesture toward the telescope and the books setting on the table. And then he remember something...oh! His number, he should give her that, then they could talk anytime. Reaching into his pocket he took out his eyephone.
"I'll leave you my number."

"You're welcome!" She was happy to see that he was pleased with the spookies! When he mentioned giving her his number, Xiu perked up and immediately retrieved her eyephone. "Oh! Let me give you mine as well." She had a feeling that she would definitely have some questions to ask him. Hopefully the poor boil wouldn't regret giving his number to Xiu later on!
After she had saved Sheridan's number, the Baku gave a little wag of her tail as she scrolled down her list of contacts. Another friend! It made her happy to see how far she had come from the first day of school. Finally, putting down the phone, she clasped her hands together and looked up at the dragon with the best doe eyes she could muster.
"You'll come cook with me again sometime, right? And stargaze?"

A few key presses, and he had added Xiu's number to his own phone, then returned the device to his pocket.
When he looked up again, he smiled turned to a hint of confusion, a blink as he stared at Xiu for a moment. Had she just...given him the cute face? That same look his cat gave him when he wanted something...usually accompanied by a purr and a flop in his lap, which may or may not have been preceded by his tail being bitten (that cat really was evil).
A moment later, the smile returned, somehow on Xiu it was charming.
"Of course, maybe next time I'll bring something for you."
If he could find a recipe that he could make without setting his room on fire of course!

Laughing, Xiu grinned up at her new friend. "You don't have to, but if you do end up cooking again, do your teacher proud!" She didn't have any doubts that he would do well! It would take a bit of practice, yes, but if he could grasp things as complicated as astronomy and physics, then cooking should be a cakewalk!
...Right?
Walking Sheridan to the door, Xiu hummed thoughtfully and glanced at the clock. It really was getting late... "Should I accompany you back to your dorms?" She offered, eyes wide. Okay, so it was usually the other way around--a gentleman bringing a lady safely back to her room--but she only thought it polite to offer!

Had Xiu not mentioned it, Sheridan would have never noticed the time, most likely remaining caught up in talk of stars and nebulae until the next morning. But she was right, it was late, and it was time he returned to his own room if for no other reason than to rescue his books from the cat of evil. And then there was the matter of Xiu needing to sleep as well.
Tail twitching, he walked to the door, carrying his plate of cookies. Hmm, maybe he was a little tired after all.
"I...if you would like, but it's not that far to my dorm."
At least it wasn't far when you had wings and could fly between buildings.

Hmm, well, he was right in saying that it really wasn't that far. Out of the demon dorms and just...off the side, actually. "Are you...are you certain?" The thought that he could simply fly there hadn't occurred to her until she took in his wings again. He would probably get there a lot faster by flying rather than if they walked.
"Oh! And you're welcome to come over anytime, okay? Just give me a text beforehand just in case I'm not in my room!" She paused before grinning sheepishly and adding, "P-please tell me if I'm asking too many questions. I...I don't want to be a bother, you know?"
Well, she would just have to be selective with her questions in that case. Instead of asking everything that came to mind, Xiu supposed that she would have to pick out the most important ones.

A nod, he was certain, it really was just a short flight, especially when he landed on the roof and went in through his window.
"I'll take you up on that. And you can visit me too."
Just bring cookies! Or the cat of evil might go after your tail! Hmm, he might need to clean up his room a bit, put papers away, re-shelve his books, clean up the shreds said cat had left on the floor.
"Ask whatever questions you want, I don't mind."
A sincere smile, he really didn't mind at all. If he had the patience to teach Petro about Stakespear and prom, he certainly had more than enough for whatever questions Xiu had to ask. On the contrary, he enjoyed the questions, especially if they allowed him to pass on his love for the stars to a friend.
"I will see you tomorrow then."
Or so he expected, somehow doubting either of them would make it through a day on their new hobbies without running to the other for help.
