Dropping the bag to the floor, the ghoul hastily head back in the opposite direction. "T-thank you! And sorry for the trouble!" Xiu called over her shoulder, rushing back to the store to grab what she needed. She was sure that the shopkeeper would be surprised to see her back so soon, and pray that she hadn't changed her mind about her new pet.

Meanwhile, despite being stuck in his carrier, the cat--Arashi, he was now named--squished his face up against the carrier door and peered up at the reaper. What strange mannerisms this boil had! He seemed as if he was acting strangely ever since his new servant said something to him. Or did she call him something?

He wasn't really sure. He was a cat. He wasn't very familiar with this language yet.

Poking his paw through the little bars of his carrier door, Arashi stared at the Reaper--and his little pet mouse--and meowed.

While Xiu was in the shop, Shun looked over towards Bent-Tail. When she returned, he looked over and nodded to her before looking at the cat inside the carrier. Now that it wasn't trying to shred anyone, it looked to be more of a curious creature.

Bent-Tail peered down at the cat, tilting his head. Maybe this one wasn't so bad? It was hard to tell right now.

"Have everything now?" he asked Xiu, while watching the storm melonkit.

Curious indeed it was. When Bent-Tail approached, the feline stared at the mouse contemplatively, and then reached through the bars in an attempt to lightly bat at it. At least he didn't look like he was being hostile--his claws were sheathed, and his head was cocked to the side.

His ears suddenly pricked up, and not a minute after, Xiu came hurrying back with a large bag of food in her arms. "Y-yes! I'm sorry for the wait!" She squeaked, panting heavily as she came to a stop in front of Shun. The Baku abruptly dropped the heavy bag, and then looked at all the items with a grimace. Time to figure out how to balance all of these things.

...Arashi didn't really need a carrier, did he? Maybe she could stuff the other bag of stuff into the carrier, carry the bag of food over her shoulder, and have her new pet walk alongside her or something. Or maybe...

Cue the doe eyes at Shun, and a tiny wag of her tail. Just the bag of food!

Eyeing that large bag of food, Shun raised a brow. Hopefully the cat liked that flavor. Then again, demons were generally known to be fairly well off so it might not be a problem for Xiu. He watched for the moment as she tried to see how to go about carrying everything.

Seeing that look in her eyes, he let out a sigh before picking up the bag of food without a word. He supposed he could do this for her.

"Ready to go?" he asked quietly before turning towards the direction of the school. He'd have to walk back to her dorm with her because of this, but that was fine he supposed. The Reaper had what he needed and there wasn't really anything he had planned for the day aside from this trip.

Bent-Tail sniffed curiously at the bag when it was hoisted up, then looked down at the cat. Maybe this one wouldn't try to kill him after all! It looked pretty friendly.

Yay! "Thank you!" She chirped, immediately picking up the carrier and the other bag again. Xiu felt a little bad for imposing on him, but she was sure he would have said something if her silent request bothered him. Probably, anyways--it was hard to tell what the quiet reaper was usually thinking.

"Ready!" With a firm nod, she started to head in the direction of the school, careful not to swing the cat carrier as she walked. Feeling that the silence between them would become awkward if she didn't say something, the Baku asked the first thing that came to her mind.

"So. Do you...have any siblings?" Ah yes, as if that wasn't an awkward question in it's own right, especially considering the earlier event.

Nodding tersely to the demon girl, Shun started to walk on back to the school. The bag was a bit hefty but it wasn't anything he couldn't handle. He would have been content to just walk the rest of the way in silence, due to his nature, but Xiu had spoken up to create a bit of small talk.

The Reaper had noticed that many others weren't really as comfortable with the silence and all.

"None," he said quietly, "You?"

Xiu shook her head as the question was directed back to her. "Nope. I've always wanted one though." She said this almost wistfully, even following it up with a small sigh. "I have a pretty small family, so I always wished that I had a brother or a sister."

Even when she was younger, she wished she had a sibling. A younger sibling would be nice, but older would have been her ideal. It would be nice to have someone to rely on, after all. Aside from her uncle, she wasn't particularly close to anyone in her own family.

"Did you have anyone to play with when you were young then, Shun?" Her own childhood would have been pretty lonely if not for, again, her uncle.

Shun, himself, had sometimes wondered what it would be like to have a sibling. While it was something he had trouble imagining, it wasn't necessarily something he really longed for. Things were the way they were. He wasn't really sure if having a sibling would really be all that good anyway. Not everyone was on good terms with their brothers and sisters after all.

At her next question, he just sort of paused and glanced at her, then continued to walk on.

"I didn't play," he said simply.

He didn't pla--what? Surely he couldn't have been this grumpy all his life! But even if he was telling the truth, then that was okay--it was never too late to start. You could never be too old to jump on the bed, or play hide and seek, or--

--Nope, wait, this was Shun she was talking about. One look at the reaper, and the Baku's optimistic thoughts all but crumbled. Still, that didn't mean that Shun couldn't go out and have fun every once in a while, right? Like...an arcade! Maybe she could call up Mitsu and Lizzy and see if they wanted to drag Shun out with her sometime.

Outwardly, however, Xiu simply frowned and shook her head slightly. "Sounds like it wasn't much fun, hm?"
PostPosted: Thu Jul 14, 2011 6:20 pm

Over all, it didn't seem like this fact bothered him all that much. Whether or not this really was the case was hard to say, but he was the way he was because of the past. He couldn't see himself being any other way. The idea of him being a really extroverted type of person was a little disturbing to the Reaper actually.

"Fun wasn't really important," he said with a shrug. At least, it wasn't for his dad. It was always work. Work. Training. Training. More work.

Those funds Shun had were from his own efforts really. His father rarely just gave him money. There were few exceptions, such as shipping him off to this school, but for the most part he had to work for his seeds.

Xiu opened her mouth to ask if he even knew what fun was--had he actually ever experienced it, she wondered?--before she promptly clamped her mouth shut again. Would it be rude of her to ask? Maybe she could do this in a more subtle way.

"Did you enjoy prom?" She asked abruptly, smiling up at him, "All that silly dancing--especially the hip thrusting--and the chatting. You danced with Mitsu too, right?" Judging by the pictures she had taken with Shun in them, Xiu herself would have qualified those situations to fit under the title of "fun", but it was hard to tell if Shun thought the same. Whereas most of the students were laughing or smiling in the images, the reaper was...grumpy as ever.

"Well, we can fix that." She unknowingly murmured aloud. Yes, she would give Mitsu and Lizzy a call soon.

Glancing at the girl again, Shun thought of that question. He had a slight idea of what she was trying to get at there, but he honestly couldn't really be certain if he had fun at the dance. To him enjoying something wasn't necessarily the same as having fun. He doubted that eating enjoyable foods was really 'fun' for example.

"It was enjoyable. Yes," he said plainly, "And.. I did."

His brow quirked up at her murmurings.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

Hmm, well, that was a start! Xiu felt like she was getting a better grasp on his character and how to tell what he was thinking. When he was bored or not doing anything in particular, he wore that normal, unsmiling face of his. And when he was enjoying himself, like at prom, then...

...Then he was still wearing that unsmiling face.

Huh, maybe this was tougher than she thought. When he spoke, she realized that she had muttered her thoughts aloud, and the ghoul quickly flashed him an innocent smile. "N-nothing! Just talking to myself! Um..." Okay, she was curious, and she couldn't help but ask. "W-were you mad when I called you 'aniki'? You said that you...didn't think you were upset." Which had been, in her opinion, a bit of a strange thing to say.

Over all, Shun was a pretty hard person to read. Then again, he had some trouble reading his own feelings, so that probably added to it. Emotions were a bit of a mystery to him. So when, Xiu brought up the previous question and reaction, he shrugged.

"Didn't know how I felt about it exactly," he said in a matter of fact tone.

It wasn't a big deal to him. Mostly she had just confused him with her sudden nickname.

Come to think of it, he had to wonder if that came up because she always wanted to have a sibling.

Now, he really wasn't sure how to feel about it. The Reaper didn't think that he'd make that good of a brother at all.

Xiu considered that answer with a thoughtful frown. Well, at least she knew that he didn't dislike it, but she still found it to be a little bit strange. Maybe she could give him a light...push? As she had determined, it wouldn't be easy to tell if he was upset by his expression, but hopefully he would at least voice his displeasure if it really bothered him.

"So, aniki," She tried to act casual though she probably failed, "Have you ever been to an arcade?" Or where else could they go? Maybe...a playground? Or the swimming pool? She would have to ask the others for their option (assuming that they would indeed be up for the idea).

They were nearing the school now, which she was grateful for. She was probably surprisingly strong for her small frame, but that didn't mean that carrying the bag and the carrier didn't tire her out. Poor Shun was carrying the hefty bag of food too.
