*Ander arrives at the military hangar level and approaches the officer on duty*
"Hello. I was wondering if you had anything fast I could borrow?"
"What is this some kind of joke? MPs!"*2 MPs walk up*
Ander grins. "I suggest you scan this, first"
"Fine. We'll do it by the book..."**doublebeep from scanner** Recognition. General Ander Cypher. GV-C742-00011. Governor of Mythril Legion. Full security clearance and access to all military levels, files, and equipment."Oh...uh...erm...sorry...I mean, sorry SIR!"Ander continues to grin "Quite alright. I'm still getting used to it myself. So, lets have a look around, shall we?"
Ander walks around the hangar, looking for a fighter with the range and speed to get him to the Mythril Legion. He decides on this one:
It is a one-man fighter wih a jump drive that has the range to get him to Mythril legion. 4 ion-jet drives power it, along with some vector control thrusters. The weapons consist of two standard laser cannons on the wings, two medium lasers in the nose, and twin torpedo launchers under the nose. It has silvery armor that has some pits and pock marks on the surface. Overall, it doesn't look very well cared-for.
"Uh...sir? This fighter is...probably not the best choice. It's relatively new, and we seem to be having some trouble with it.""Really?" Ander grins again. "Give me a couple hours with it. Would you mind getting me your chief engineer, and move this heap into your maintenance bay. Oh, and I'll need some equipment: some thin sheets of titanium, high-temperature laser tips, emitter coils...(he continues on in this vein for some time)"
After Ander gets all the equipment and goes over the schematics with the chief engineer, he begins working on modifying the fighter. He works for several hours, rewiring controls, tuning and modifying the engines, synchronizing the maneuvering thrusters and increasing their efficiency, aligning the lasers and launchers, and replacing most of the stock parts with more high-performance ones. He increases the damage of the standard lasers, and tightens their focus so they have a longer range. He also puts in better cooling units so they won't overheat. The medium lasers' focus is also tightened, and cooling sleeves are added to the barrels. Ander then strips the power core and works modifying it to put out 30% more power than it had previously. He also spends almost an hour working with the fighter's armor, which is now a matte black. He spends the most time with the jump drive, upgrading it so that it creates a more stable vortex that will allow him to travel a little faster than before. The last thing he does is to paint silver stripes on the wings and down the hull. When it is ready, he does one final check of all systems, and then fires the engines to catapult him out of the bay and into space.
"This is Governor Ander Cypher to Avantgarde control. I need to jump to the current position of the Mythril Legion. Can you give me the coordinates?"
"Affirmative, governor. Uploading"Ander enters the coordinates into his navigational computer and begins the jump sequence. The fighter aligns itself to jump, and with a flicker of pseudomotion, it vanishes into a point of light.
