CalledTheRaven Esiris Can anyone tell me about Odin's wolves? Geri and Freki. I had to look it up. redface It's just so much easier to remember Hugin and Munin for some reason. It is - I wonder why? I can't even remember what the translate to. One is hunger, I think. Oh, I looked it up. They both mean "ravenous" or "the greedy one".

There's something interesting about that. Thought and Memory are easier to remember than a pair of ravenous wolves.

Hey guys! I was wondering if you could perhaps tell me if the below is an accurate symbol of Thor's Hammer? Now that I am all settled into my dorm and such I can dedicate time to research and I would really like to be able to draw His Symbol and His Rune if there is one.

If you research it you'll see there were many different variations of Mjolnir. And I wouldn't draw his rune, if I was you.

I figured I shouldnt and I wasn't going to I was just curious what it looked like. The Runes scare me too much to draw any of them. Mm. But the basic shape of Mjolnr remained about the same. The rectangular side down and the handle up with the rest whatever the person desired basically?

Sometimes, the head is less triangular and more of a straight bar, and I've seen a few that were meant to be worn the other way around but basically yeah. There's a lot of variation and personal preference involved. And like many such things, the form (and the myths) evolved over time. Apparently, some of the earliest representations of his weapon are of a double bladed axe rather than a hammer but that's more of an early Germanic thing than Norse. It all depends where you want to go with things.

On one hand I would like to concretely know what is a proper Mjolnir pendant or representation but on the other its rather freeing to know that I can let my instincts and preferences guide this. On another but related note how do you think Thor would feel if I dedicated a boffer(foam) Warhammer to Him? It's an idea I have had for a while now. I feel like less of a connection to Him and I think it's because He wants me to come and get Him so to speak. Thor is trying to push me the rest of the away of my shell I think, to truly embrace myself. Or I could be wrong. Thoughts?

I don't personally like the idea of dedicating a play weapon to any of the deities I'm familiar with. You might think about dedicating you combats or victories to him but I'm not certain. But then, I've never been able to talk myself into working with even an overly dull knife in a religious/ritual context. It always seemed to me that, as the Gods of a culture that valued both practicality and prowess in battle, they would prefer functional weapons.
Also, do you have a real hammer? Not a pendant but a physical club hammer or a mini sledge? Even though you won't likely be using it on a foe, presenting him with the real thing can make a difference.

No I don't have a hammer and or even a sledge hammer. I could probably find one. It was just a thought as to me things created by me are a bit more important than bought things.

Well, it's all about what you put into it. There's a sacrifice of time or money to acquire either. There are also ways to modify and personalize bought items. For example, I did a nice leather wrapping on the handle of the hammer on my altar.

I really dont want one of those. If I purchase one I will try to get a metal Sledge Hammer so I can draw and mark on it and then I can wrap it or something.

Oh heck no. It's a club hammer. For Thor or for heathenism in general, you want a double sided, blunt hammer. A club hammer or a mini sledge, not a claw hammer. Mine is in the picture of my altar in the photo sharing thread if you want to take a look.

So I finally made my first offering/introduction today. I believe it was accepted, it's a little hard to tell since my sister started pestering me about what I was doing right when I finished. So the after effects of the offering and my anxiety from her questions started mushing together.
