Merit nodded, not able to completely rid herself of the worry crease between her eyes. "It c'n be a pretty place, but," she hesitated, not sure how to go on. She didn't want to extinguish all that excitement Abby had in her eyes, and it wasn't like the city was all bad. But if it meant saving Abby from having to go through everything Merit herself went through, she'd rather dim the light than see it completely crushed.

"Jus', be careful darlin'," she said, concern. "I've been to th' city once, ain't never goin' back if I c'n help it. Jus' like there's a ton of pretty stuff don't mean it's all pretty. Y'd be surprised how ugly some of them places can be..."

For a moment Merit's expression darkened, then she snapped out of it with a start and glanced over at Abby, hoping she hadn't noticed.

Abby blinked at the vixen, she had seen the change of expression. She did not comment, not wanting to sadden Merit, and instead smiling sweetly at her.

"I know, but I still want to see it." She looked to the side, head shaking side to side. "And, I can help people there if someone is in trouble!" She was determined to go to the city, thought Merit's responses were making her a tad worried... What was so bad about the city?

Merit smiled kindly at Abby. "I'm sure ya'd do wonderful at helpin' people darlin', ya've got such a kind soul." Yes, Abby had to do better than Merit. Merit was too soft, with a big heart that broke too easily over all the horrible things she'd seen. Maybe that was why she'd come here, to get away from all the suffering.

She sighed. When had she become so weak?

Trying to shove her own thoughts away, Merit looked back at Abby. "After ya visit, if y're ever comin' back this way, maybe you can drop by an' tell me how th' visit was," she said, trying to sound cheerful.

"I can really visit?" She asked the vixen, smiling back. "You don't mind?" Well! Once they arrived at Merit's tribe then Abby would know where to go to see her! She could have a friend. Maybe she'd make more friends in the city, too. There was so many foxes in the city, or so she had heard.

Maybe she could bring them back to meet Merit, too. Yes, it would be fun! This made her bounce in her step, excited. Thrilled, even. She could go to the city with a smile.

Merit smiled brightly, unable to maintain any kind of gloom in the face of such pure enthusiasm. "O' course ya can, darlin'. We're a fairly open-minded tribe, we don't go runnin' folks off jus' cause they're passin' through or wanna visit! I'd feel hurt if ya didn't come lookin' me up afterwards!"

The sun was starting to sink lower, somewhere between afternoon and twilight. There was still a bit of a ways to go to reach Merit's tribe, but in the presence of Abby's company Merit was startled at how quickly time seemed to be going by!

"Oh!" Abby eyed her new friend, grinning. "What would you like from the city?" She asked, head flopping to the side. She could get her new friend a token of appreciation or just a souvenir, either would work. She glanced at Merit, scanning her. Perhaps she could get her something to wear? She had heard vixens liked jewelery, and she herself did!

Or was that to forward? What about some food they couldn't find in the wild? Hmm. Well, Merit didn't seem the type to actually say she'd hate someones gift, but... She still wanted to give her something that made her happy.

Merit smiled fondly at Abby. "Bless y'er heart darlin', anythin' ya get me will be jus' fine! It's th' thought that counts, and I'm sure anythin' ya pick f'r me will have a nice story behind it somewhere."

((Did we want to do a time-skip in the RP to when she gets back, or do we want that in a different RP))

(( We could do a time-skip to when Abby gets back, if you'd like~ ))

Smiling brightly, Abby's tail wiggled. Well, that was easy. Now, just what to get Merit? She could worry about that when she went to the city, right now she was more concerned over getting Merit to her tribe safely.

Hn. Tribe. She might not want to get to close, seeing as there would be a lot of beautiful foxes there..... Hnnn.

- TIME SKIP -

Merit hummed cheerfully to herself as she wandered through the forest, collecting herbs and other plants she thought would be useful. The tribe didn't have an official healer, but she was a fair hand with using herbs and most of the tribe was capable of looking after themselves. Never hurt to have a stockpile in case, and some of these made for good eating.

As always, Merit found her thoughts wandering towards Abby. It had been awhile since the vivid green vixen had left to visit the city. Merit wondered where she was now, and how she was doing.

If she was going to be honest with her (and she usually was), her interest was a bit....more than friendly. A slight blush crossed Merit's cheeks. Yes, she found Abby very pretty and with an interesting, sweet personality. It was a shame that Abby herself didn't realize what a treasure she was.

Her legs still shook as she walked, ears jerked back agains't her head, heart hammering. Every memory made her cringe, every thought frightened her.

The city was a monster.

To many humans that tried to grab you. To many foxes that wanted to rip your head off for standing on their turf. To many loud noises. She wished she had never gone there. Yes, at night it was beautiful, but she was to busy cringing under a box to see the bright lights and shimmering fountains that changed colors.

No. The second she had collected Abby's present she had vanished, running right from that horrid place full-speed. And now, she was lost in the forest looking for Merit.

Merit froze, one leg still up in the air in preparation for the step she'd been about to take, hum dying in her throat. She thought she'd heard a sound, the sort of branch-breaking, leaf-crunching sound you heard when something of a decent size was wandering around.

The wind was against her though, so she had no idea what it could be.

"Hello," Merit called out uncertaintly, wondering if she could be climbing a tree just in case. Not a whole lot of violent creatures roamed around here, but there was still the odd bear or grumpy badger.

A voice alarmed her, though her tail wagged happily. Oh! Merit's voice~ Purring deep within her throat, the female padded ahead until she located the vixen, tossing hair to one side as she plopped onto her haunches.

"Merit~" She chirped, a shudder running down her spine at the cold breeze. Despite that, she still wore that smile. Thank heavens Merit hadn't been just a dream. If she had come back from the dreaded city to find Merit not real....

Merit started, then as recognization hit her a smile began to cross her face.

"Oh my! Well how ya doin' darlin'? Come over here and let me take a look at ya." She eyed the green and red vixen carefully, as though searching for serious injuries. "Been awhile since we last part ways, I was startin' ta get worried for ya."

She looked up, her cinnamon brown eyes both worried and happy. "So how are ya? Whatcha been doin'? Come on sweetie, don't let this poor old vixen perish of curiousity now!"

Ears falling against her head, she sighed in relief when she heard Merit's voice, shaking her head. Her legs wobbled slightly, relief rushing through her heart.

"It was horrid." She admitted, head lowering. "So many loud noises and mean foxes and horrible scents. It was disgusting and ugly and horrible." She shook her head, pressing back into the ground. "But.. I.. I got you something." She admitted, tail flicking against her side.

"Oh, you poor baby," Merit lamented, moving over to snuggle against Abby's side and offer physical comfort. She reached out with her paw and lightly smoothed Abby's bangs away from her face.

"I never found th' city all that agreeable myself, ain't no shame in decidin' the life ain't for you." She smiled softly at the vixen. "Really nice of ya to remember me, but ya know ya didn't really have to get me anythin'. I'm jus' glad y'r alright, hun."
