"Oh!" Hasuko clasped her hands in pleasure. "Cephalatos are such fun, aren't they? I used to keep some when I was younger." The kappa smiled fondly at the memory. "I used to get scolded all the time for letting them out of their enclosure. They'd swim all over the house and be quite the nuisance to my parents."
"Right now I just have Pochi," Hasuko said, warming up to the subject and feeling a little more at ease, "but he's more than enough of a nuisance for any ghoul. He's very independent too but I think he likes the comforts of home -- and his food dish -- to live out on his own. But that's good, I'd be so lonely without him."
Hasuko smiled and nodded. "Languages are fun. At home, we talk in Japanese mostly but I know not many people know that language here so I try not to use too much. However, I trained Pochi with Japanese commands." Hasuko sighed slightly, "Not that he's very obedient..." she muttered.
"Um, I mean, there is something rewarding in learning new things on your own. I like that feeling of accomplishment, like... you can be honestly proud of what you've done." Hasuko smiled.
"Malodore's Italian is very interesting. The 'R' sounds are a little difficult for me though. But it's fun hearing It talk."
Hasuko blinked. "Speaking of Malodore... It's been gone an awful long time." The kappa looked over towards her door. "I wonder if we should perhaps go check on It?"

As if on cue, there was a warning knock on the door before said door swung open, revealing Malodore and one very tired pastry-cat. Malodore's hat was askew, and given the way Dolce was boneless and squinting in the plague doctor's arms it was obvious the little feline had gone a fair distance before getting caught. Or before collapsing.
"Well. That was interesting," Malodore said, dryly; still, it gave the two ghouls a hopeful look. "My apologies for the sudden disappearance. I trust all went well in my absence?" It certainly wanted that, though it didn't actually voice it. The thought that Riley and Hasuko might not like each other... ugh, it didn't want to even consider that!

Riley turned to follow Hasuko's gaze, and widened her eyes when, upon just looking at the door, it managed to summon Malodore to them.
Convenient.. She whispered to Hasuko with a chuckle, before pushing herself up to stand, and moving to the plague doctor's side. She reached out and poked the nyancat, then lifted a claw. When she realized it, it fell.
Was it dead? .. Did this mean she could eat it now? She almost wanted to ask. Pastry. Sugar. Brains. No, this was Malodore's pet. She couldn't do that.
But she wanted to.
She reached up and tilted Malodore's hat back to it's rightful position. We were just about to go searching for you, my love. You have impeccable timing. She turned and gave Hasuko a mischievous, affectionate glance. Though we were enjoying our time together nonetheless. Didn't we, Hasuko? It was always fun to make someone think they missed something deliciously interesting.

"Is your kitten okay, Malodore? I'm so sorry." Hasuko said, rising from the couch and hesitantly giving the kitten in Its arms an awkward pat. The kappa was relieved to see that the nyancat didn't seem to be too terribly traumatized by the experience.
Felines and other small furry creatures always seemed so delicate to Hasuko; they were so... water soluble and apt to drown. She'd take a cute little poison salamander or water beetle any day.
Hasuko returned Riley's smile, feeling a little bit more at ease now that Malodore had returned. Trying to carry a conversation one-on-one always made Hasuko a bit nervous -- what if she ran out of interesting things to say and embarrassed herself and bored the other person?
She had to admit though, it was nice getting to know the mindflayer a little better. Riley still intimidated Hasuko but the kappa couldn't help but like the other ghoul just the same. It was a little like hanging around her auntie's tame water serpent; the creature could easily turn around and bite your leg off but it never did. And it was so much fun holding on to its scales as it jetted through the water, watching the little fish and turtles scatter before them.
"Yes," Hasuko replied, "we had a good talk."

"Bene, bene - and ah, si, Dolce is quite well. Rather tired, I'm quite sure, but he should recover admirably. If nothing else, he shouldn't be running away again any time soon." The plague doctor patted the pastry-cat lightly atop the head. "And he leaves a trail of rainbow to follow. Convenient, if garish!"

Riley thought it much more garish than convenient, but she wasn't about to argue the point. Perhaps Luce should give it some lessons in obedience. She sighed softly, looking just a little more content at the idea of Luce than she should. Before it was evident, she shook herself out of it and took Hasuko's hand. I'm going to make sure we have more time together, I promise. For now, however, should I leave you two alone to chat? You have years to make up for, after all - I would never want to get in the way of it.
