"That pout doesn't work on me." In fact, all it did was make him sigh, hauling on Ashley's elbow to draw her away from the crowd and back out toward their table. Which had, naturally, now been claimed by strangers who leaned a little too close, flirted a little too loudly, and left Ever rolling his eyes and muttering something about desperation. He'd know, after all.
They could find another one, and Ever could fetch them more drinks, even if his head was starting to swim a bit from too much too fast. "Talk."

Yes, fat chance indeed. She was all but dragged away from the dance floor like a child, and it was.. annoying to say the least.
No one knew about this. No one. Even Matthew hadn't known how she felt sometimes, as she'd been unable to truly word these feelings. Well, it now looked like she would need to learn those words - fast.
For now, she was pretending not to have heard him - then pulled at his sleeve as she finally spotted a free table, and led him toward it.
And then she sat, and there was no other pretense to save her. "...How did you figure out that you... well.. liked other guys ?"
Yep. It was gonna be that conversation. And hey, if he refused to say, then she could refuse to elaborate further.

"...um." Oh. This convo. Maybe, now, Ever was regretting having prodded. He had a fuzzy edge to his expression, eyes flitting off of her and to the crowd around them, and he wished desperately that he had a drink in front of him. That would make it easier.
"You mean...okay, yes, you mean how was I sure." He wanted to ask her to be more specific, to push the question and see if that would make her retreat and give up. That was cruel, though, and he knew it, and he knew [more importantly] that he'd have to deal with her again after this, so...
"I got seduced, I guess." Ever cleared his throat and leaned back, shrugging at her. "But maybe I knew before that, because I tried to have a girlfriend from church youth group. We kissed twice, like nervous birds, and it was terrible, but it got my dad to lay off."

Church camp ? ...That was the last place she could picture Ever, honestly.
Unfortunately, that meant he had answered, which meant she couldn't dodge the question. Damn.
Ashley also wished she had a drink in front of her right this instant. At least they agreed on something - this was awkward as s**t.
"Well, the thing is." God, why was she even talking about it ? Bad, bad idea... "I've had a few boyfriends. I definitively like guys." She shook her head. "...But I've been noticing girls too and... I just dunno. It's not something you need to worry about." She shot him her best apologetic smile.

The problem was that Ever couldn't really help her out there. His interest was decisively one-sided; he'd been told, at one point, that everyone operated on a scale. People had degrees of interest. It was just that Ever's seemed to be pretty solidly on one side of the scale and, well, that middling area was unfamiliar territory to him...
"Uh, no, I guess not." Thank god for that. If it had been his problem, that would have been much worse. If it had been his sister, god help him..."Uh. I don't mind, though. Not helpful, I guess, but people can always talk at me..."
And, in the mean time, he levered himself up to stand, gesturing her to stay. "I'll get more drinks. Five minutes, I can always wiggle to the front of the line."

Oh, Ashley was definitively down for more drinks. "I'll keep the table." Seemed like a good idea - if she went with him, they would have a repeat from earlier, certainly.
She'd be nice and give Ever ten, even. Then she'd come looking. And if he was playing tonsil-hockey with some random dude, the cockblock would go into motion.
She figured she could think of exactly what that meant if it got there.

Oh, no. Best behavior. Best behavior and concern and his own thoughts tugging around him into a weird kind of focus. Ever came back with drinks that he really shouldn't have been able to afford, settling Ashley's carefully in front of her. Another bright color, with one sip taken from it. He'd easily be able to say it was to prevent spilling...
He dropped down into the opposite chair, and his expression was still weirdly serious. Quiet, he sipped at his drink for a minute, eyes distant, before he focused fully on her. "...have you ever been in a relationship?"

Ashley hardly seemed to care that there was a sip missing off her glass - guess Ever got curious about the 'candy'. It was a little amusing, really.
Seeing him so serious was really odd. Really... Well. Even when they were out hunting he wasn't usually this serious.
She took a sip, carefully considering his question. "Boyfriends." She eventually said. "Not very serious relationships. Most of em we just both kind of... lost interest and drifted away, you know ? Teens being teens."

"Sorry, I don't know." He flashed her a smile that was crooked, distant, and entirely unconvincing, his eyes not quite in focus. Ever licked his lips and dug for something more honest and useful than that, floundering.
"I didn't have much interaction with other kids when I was a teenager. Or, you know, not teenaged interactions. Stilted ice breaker exercises at church youth group, couple of experiences in choir before they decided I shouldn't be allowed to sing, getting teased in our shitty little league team..." It gave a picture, at least. Sheltered and awkward. Not the same Ever he was now. He made a so-so gesture.
"Not quite sure how it's supposed to work at your age, but, uh. You should poke around some. See what feels right."

"That's probably my best bet." She admitted, getting the idea that it was a much better idea to talk about her present than his past. "But it's silly, like... Im scared how people might react to it. Especially..." Especially her brother, but she kept silent on that.
But then, she'd had her brother dragged in this whole mess, and he was doing more or less fine. Coming out of the closet was lighter stuff than alien invaders, right ?

"Ah, well." That, at least, brightened his expression -- something he could deal with, certainly. Ever raised his glass in something like a salute, both of his eyebrows raised. His tone was teasing, but his expression was sharp, something closed off about his eyes.
"If they react badly, ********." And he drank to that.

If only it was that easy. But she didn't say that - instead, she rose her glass to meet his. "That's right !"
If anyone decided to hate her for something that silly... Well, it wasn't like she even needed these kind of people around, right ?
Of course not.
