He laughed a bit, knowing exactly what kind of nourishment he was denying.
"Yes... you could say that." he said enigmatically.
"I'm sure a lot of your customers are malnourished before entering the tunnel." he jibed humorously. "Or perhaps it's just the tunnel." he remarked, snapping to a serious tone.

Roma nodded, shuddering involuntarily as she looked once more at the darkened entrance. "Yes, that may be the case. Perhaps it should be shut down."

Bartheyamus shook his head.
"No matter how painful the past is, we must know it, acknowledge it, cherish it. I've grown so much stronger just remembering what I fight for everyday. Pain is our greatest teacher though it is a harsh one. To deny your past is to deny yourself, you must own it and if you are discontent with what you carry, change it."
He smiled as Bartheyamus grasped her hand.
"The past has a way of letting us realize and cherish the best moments in our lives..." he chuckled. "Or rather my unlife."
He let go of her hand as to not be rude. His tone became serious again.
"Don't shut it down. I think people need to remember what they're fighting for. Figuratively speaking of course."

She nodded, knowing that the words he spoke were truthful. "You are very wise in your words. The past is a tricky thing, but unique to each of us. We cannot change it, but learn from it." Roma offered a kind smile. "After all, the present memories we have now will soon turn into past ones, right?"

"True enough, such a shame there wont be much room for anything but my spiritual advancement." he stated wistfully.

Roma tilted her head, a little confused at his words. She was familiar with meditation and other forms of relaxing the mind, but not as much with the ways of spirituality. Still, she smiled. "I wish you luck then, my friend."

Sensing her confusion, he elaborated:
"I made a vow after Master died that I would devote myself to knowledge and the advancement of myself so that I could better serve vampyre-kind. It is my belief that master was slain due to my erroneous actions so I sought redemption by trying to salvage what was left of my kind by teaching them alternative ways of feeding. Due to this, I've had to forsake love, friendships, anything that took me from my mission. I came to the Castle because I sensed our king needed help with his bloodlust. If I am incorrect, I don't know what my purpose here could possibly be, or what benefit I could be to the kingdom."
He sighed heavily.
"I hate to sound melodramatic. When you've been in solitude for so long, talking to people seems the hardest thing in the world to do."
He looked upon the crimson horizon now with a strange longing in his eyes.

She nodded, understanding now at least a small amount of the predicament that he currently found himself in. It must be difficult to carry such a heavy burden in loneliness. Her eyes wandered over to the looming castle. It had seemed darker of late, and she wondered if this could be the reason. "There are other ways for your kind to feed? That could prove most beneficial not only to those that hunger, but also to those that have been hunted for too long. I pray that your efforts in this are successful."

He smiled.
"Of course, my lady. I'm what they call a Psychic Vampyre. Rather than feeding on the blood of others, I can feed off of the auric energy that everyone naturally has. Coming to this awakening has ultimately made me more empathetic towards people. The downside to this, however, is that I crave social interaction: Love, friendship, et cetera. It seems ironic that one who's to carry a burden of solitude thrives on the very thing he had forsaken. Of course, if I don't receive the proper energies from people I will eventually fall into bloodlust."
He pulled a small vial of blood from his breastpocket.
"Therefore I keep this for only the most dire of emergencies. I've learned to curb my hunger by sheer will alone but even that has limits. Sadly, if I do fall into bloodlust, the effects become much more dangerous than any typical vampyre."
He placed his hands in his pockets and chuckled.
"I'm surprised in all your travelling you've never seen one, or sensed one."

Roma looked at the small vial curiously as she shook her head. "You will have to forgive my curiosity. I am afraid your kind is new to me. It is true that we travel often, however I do not get much of an opportunity to learn about the different beings in each land. I am even ashamed to admit that I do not know much other than what is written in legends about my traveling companions. We all tend to remain silent while on the road." She smiled. "Your kind is most interesting. I did not think it was possible for vampires to resist the thirst of blood for such lengths of time."

Bartheyamus, seeing that he captured her interest took a seat on a rickety chair close by.
"Well, I'm open to educate you in any way I can. If you're curious on any other subjects, I'll be happy to elaborate. Nothing is off limits."
He smiled, connecting his white eyes with hers.

Coming over to where the man sat, Roma knelt down on the ground to listen. "That is most kind of you. I am eager to learn more about your journeys."

Taking a long time to ensure the right words, Bartheyamus cupped his head in his hand. Not only did he wish to make the stories interesting but he also needed to make sure that he could remember it all. He searched the depths of his mind for the ideal story, but where to start? How to say it? It went without saying that Bartheyamus had fully thought that the stories he was about to tell would be private memories for an eternity. He mused: It was almost as if the woman before him was like an audience of one to a private, intimate dance. He smiled at the thought.
"Well, my lady," he said with a bit of delightful confusion "I will admit I know not where to start but I suppose the most prudent point would be after my awakening, when I had left the castle to pursue my nomadic journey."
"I remember clearly the weather that day: The sky was tinted a grey blue as I overlooked the ocean on the cliff where the ruins of the castle stood. It was almost if the weather and my heart resonated together, a storm in my heart, storm clouds on the water." he waved his hand dismissively "Though I'm certain you are not here to listen to me predict the weather." he chuckled heartily.
"Anyway, I walked out of the castle wondering what destiny had for me and how I would get there. You see, for most of my life I was under the shelter of my lord and king, my castle and home. To venture out into the world seemed so foreign to me. Here I was, with my clothes, weapons, a few vials of blood, writing materials, and some books to study on the road. With no horse, I was to traverse Eastern Norway by myself. I walked on for awhile, finally breathing open air, building my own fires, practicing meditation and the arts of combat within the mists of forests. My once lanky body became honed and muscular, necessary for survival. One thing, however, that came to be of great difficulty was social interaction. I had spent my mortal life a silent record keeper, only speaking to the king. So, I would go to every bustling city I could find in Norway to speak with the townsfolk, doing well to conceal my nature. Some were more than willing to speak with one of apparent visual nobility, others ended up sensing something off and chased me out of their town. Eventually, I ended up in Stavanger, living in a makeshift home when I received the call of our Lord Katsuto, how he found me I do not know."
Bartheyamus took a deep breath at this point and sat in silence for a moment to let the words sink in.
"If in any way I left anything out that was of interest to you, please, ask me and I will expand. Recalling years of travel seems to having a blurring effect on my mind"

Roma listened intently to the man's tale as her mind tried to paint the visual image that he had so clearly described. She sat in silence for a few minutes, recalling how often she had traveled as well. The only difference in that aspect was that she did so with a caravan of many while this man had braved the unknown wilds alone. That in itself was an admirable feat, and she smiled. "I am sorry. I do not mean to pry too deeply. We all have things that would be best hidden in memory, and if something fits that case, I will take silence as an adequate answer." Shifting from her kneeling position, she moved to cross her legs and sit on the ground while folding her hands in her lap. "You said that you trained in combat? Was this guided, or did you meet with many creatures during your sojourn?"

Bartheyamus smiled, loving the questions. He could feel her chakra reaching out to him and he so eagerly took it, gently so as to not bother her.
"It was a bit of both, my King trained me personally, I was like a son to him. He taught me in the ways of fencing, a gentleman's choice of combat if I may so bold to proclaim. To be a good fighter, I had learned to dance as well. You see, deft footwork allows one the precision and necessary balance for fencing. However, being that I had braved the wilds on my own for many a year, a rapier was not good for hunting or warding off bandits so," he then pulled out his silver dagger with a phoenix's wings encrusted on the hilt. "I used this for many things, drawing my blood, plunging it into the hearts of my foes, skinning, whittling, you name it." he then tossed the knife to Roma so that she may inspect it.
"The fusion of graceful fencing and primal short blade allowed me to adopt a very unique style of combat using both finesse and power. I dazzle my foes with the beauty of the rapier and then catch them off guard with the knife." he smiled devilishly.
"Anything else you wish to know?"
