The little pup seemed satisfied that Sparrow was accepting his handshake. Until it became something that was very much... not a handshake. He jerked back his hand the moment it was set free, and stared at the reaper with a wide-eyed expression of shock. He could practically feel the blush glowing brightly in his cheeks...
What in Jack's name had that been about?!
Jove rubbed at his hand, still staring at Sparrow with an expression of embarrassed confusion. He had never had anyone kiss his hand in greeting before, and it struck him as odd. Even for a reaper. Was that how they naturally greeted each other? The little ghost prayed boils didn't have cooties, otherwise Sparrow might have been riddled with them.

Sparrow tilted his head, his eyebrows drawing together in slight confusion at Jove's reaction. Why did she seem so surprised over it? It was a natural greeting from a boil to a ghoul; was it so out of place here? Perhaps she just did not like being touched, or perhaps she had never seen a greeting like that before. He gave a small shrug, lifting both of his hands up in a gesture of innocence.
"Sorry, sorry," Sparrow said with a small, rueful laugh. "I didn't mean to weird you out or anything. It's just a force of habit, really. But if it makes you uncomfortable, I won't greet you like that anymore."
It was growing late. He pushed himself back from the table and gathered his books together, standing and slipping out from his chair. He hoped Jove would not want to retract that friend statement after his gesture of greeting, so he gave the ghoul a sheepish smile, lifting his brows tentatively.
"Still want to be my friend?" Sparrow asked.

The pup nodded, his expression a mixture of displeasure as he wiped off his hand, and disbelief that Sparrow would even have to ask again. "Don't be ridiculous, of course I still want to be your friend," was the message Jove ended up sending, with an additional side glance that said very clearly "don't do that kissy thing again."
But wait... Sparrow was leaving? The pup's ears flopped down. And he had just been getting used to the company and all... The sad-puppy eyes were quite the contrast to his usual scowl, but Jove was as of yet still oblivious to the effect they had on others with a weakness for cute, fluffy things.

He was relieved to see that his little gesture of greeting hadn't deterred Jove from wanting to be his friend - though the expression on her pale, freckled face clearly said "kindly don't repeat that." Which, if it made her uncomfortable, he wouldn't.
Sparrow had gotten up to leave, but Jove's ears had fallen down, a slightly dejected look on her face. It surprised him, especially since Sparrow had not thought that the puppy cared much for his company, seeing as how their first meeting had so far been quite rocky. Her glowing eyes were wide and filled with...well, Sparrow wasn't actually sure, but she actually seemed...disappointed?
He flopped abruptly back into the chair, throwing one leg casually over the other as he leaned back in the chair, linking his fingers behind his head as if he hadn't a care in the world. Dark brows rose with amusement, though Sparrow said nothing, giving Jove a look that said, without words. Yeeees?
