Jove's eyes flickered open, but he was given was a brief second before being pushed under the water. He closed his eyes again and tensed up, much the way a child would if expecting to be struck, but he didn't struggle. He repeated over and over to himself that he could pull on Calder's arm and he would be brought back to the surface, so he would be safe. That was what the kelpie meant, right?
The pup waited, and waited, and waited a little bit longer before finally cracking open one eye. Nothing bad was happening. He was completely under water, and wasn't struggling... And nothing bad was happening!
Jove opened his other eye and relaxed, looking at Calder with a "What now?" sort of expression. He tried to look around with Calder's hand gently tangled in his hair, noticing the way the light seemed to filter down through the water, rippling along the sides of the pool as they mimicked the slight waves overhead. The little ghost hadn't imagined it would be so pretty under the water. Was this why Yaya always went swimming?

When Jove opened his eyes, it was not a look of approval or glee that he was perfectly fine completely submerged. No. The kelpie looked disappointed and upset and most of all, slightly miffed at the boy for being perfectly calm. Even his cute expression bothered him, and Calder removed his hand, floating alongside the boy before crossing his arms. His eyes were a heavy dark, washing out his usually dark green, and a white ring had been started to invade his pupils.
Calder was pissed.
He gave a smirk. "Seems you're fine." He spat, and started to swim away. So much for that fun.

Jove let out his breath, and blinked at Calder's reaction. It was almost like looking into the face of a completely different person, with those frightening eyes, and the displeased expression. It wasn't the gentle, kind kelpie he thought he knew...
His brows furrowed at Calder's comment, and tried to reach out and grab his friend's wrist, only to find empty water. The pup frowned and began to paddle clumsily after him. Was Calder expecting a thank you? Jove hadn't even had time to really process things, why was the other boil so irritated?
The wisp took a breath to say something, only to realize it was not air, but water rushing into his lungs, and began to cough and choke under water. This wasn't good! He was so panicked about the coughing he didn't even try to swim upward, he just clumsily flailed around a bit.

Calder could sense movements in the water like a spider noticed a creature trapped in it's web. The ripples traveled over to him, that of frantic flailing and panic, and it was as smelling a pleasant breeze.
He turned his head, stopping in the water and looked at the boil, not sure what to make of it. It had appeared that Jove had been fine before, and he wondered if this was all an act to make him happy. Touching really, but when he noticed the garbled coughing, he guessed that reality had hit the boil and he was indeed drowning.
Even though it seemed like the boil was knocking on Death's door, he couldn't help but feel a bit touched that maybe Jove was drowing just for him. Smiling, he then noticed that he was, as previously thought, the only one here, and the boil was not regaining his senses. If this was an act, he was going too far.
Swimming over, he slipped his hands under each armpit of the boil's and then kicked his feet up, breaking the water with no real effort and in little time. When they were above water, he was smiling. "You drown beautifully." He said without thinking.

Jove's frantic coughing wasn't an act. It was terrifying to feel his lungs fill with water, and see the last bubbles of precious air escape to the surface. But then Calder was there, and next thing he knew he was breaking the surface of the water.
But an odd thing happened. The pup didn't immediately cough and gasp for air like any living creature would do, nor was he unconscious. And he didn't feel that strange need to cough either. He just blinked in confusion, looking much the same as when Calder first pulled him under.
His ears perked forward, tentatively, nervously, as though still frightened from the experience, and then he heard Calder's words. And began to blush. What kind of thing was that, he drowned beautifully? Was that kelpie flattery? The little pup glanced away, wearing a stubborn expression and blushing like a little fright light. He snorted.
And then all of a sudden that sullen little snort turned into a violent round of coughing as the pup expelled all the water in his lungs. His little body heaved and gasped until the very last of the water was gone. So it looked as though he could drown, but at the same time, not really. It was only the transition from one fluid to another that gave him difficulties.
