Charlie nodded at the case Calder was presenting to him. It was true, he wouldn't be really reading if he just memorized what the book was saying. Letters , he knew of them but not how to read them. The only letter that Charlie kind of understood was C. That was about the only thing he remembered in his own name. Everything else seemed like silly little symbols that could have been none sense for all he knew.
"A-alright," The demon gulped. It seemed like this was going to be a lot more work then he thought. But he wanted this. He needed to be the one to read that letter his father had sent so he could maybe move on. Or maybe even meet his father or learn of him. This was why he signed up in the first place after all.
"I mean ALRIGHT!" A few other students in another section next to the kiddie aisle gave Charlie a look of disgust and filed out. "I think I'm ready." It was as if it was some kind of kung fu lesson and he was about to go fight his ultimate rival. Calder was the grand master.

Calder clapped his hands, excited for a project to distract him from his homework. Though he was no qualified teacher and had never taught anyone before, he was eager to help Charlie out and possibly become his friend.
Thinking on what he would have to do, Calder rose up and looked around before pulling ABC books off the shelf. Grabbing a handful of them, he went over and flopped on the ground, making sure not to sit on his tail. Spreading the books around, he smiled. "In this class, you can pick your textbook. Pick the one that has the pictures you like. Then we can start with the first letter, and that will be your homework." He felt that was the best thing to do.
"Oh, and I can take it out and just hand it to you. That way the librarian doesn't' think you're learning." Though it would probably make the creature at the front desk wonder if Calder knew how to read.

Charlie got to pick his own text book in this class? Calder was the best teacher ever and the demon knew just what he wanted already. Withou a moments hesitation the demon eagerly pointed a long sleeved arm at a book that a picture of a very sad looking jack o' lantern. It was wearing a pink princess dress for some reason and looked none to happy about it.
"This one!" Charlie looked back up at Calder eagerly. "I want to read this one ~" Yes clearly that had to be the choice for the young demon. It just seemed silly to see a pumpkin in that kind of attire.

Calder followed Charlie's sleeve to the bookshelf and found the book in question. A sad pumpkin by the name of "Paul" who was apparently a pumpkin princess. It might have been a pun on Jack, but it seemed, upon flipping through the book, that all his friends and bullies were edible things. A rotting eggplant, a nervous looking potato, and a rather flirty cantaloupe with long lashes. Upon looking at the section, he saw that Paul Pumpkin Princess was a book series, and smiled. Future textbooks? Clearly.
Moving over, Calder handed him the book. "There are more books about him. We can use that for the future." He sat back down. "This is Paul. A pumpkin princess. I never read the series." Calder scooted his rump so that he was right up next to Charlie and turned to the first page. "He's going to teach you the ABCs. That's the first thing you need to know. And the first letter is A." Calder pointed to the Big A. "This is a Big A and this is a little a. You need to know both. Big As start a word. Little a's are in words. I'll show you later. For now. You just need to write these two letters on two pieces of paper. Over and over until they look like these two. That's going to be homework."
Calder looked at the page. Pumpkin Paul Princess was surrounded by 'A' words. "A makes a 'AH' sound, like ...AHHHH!" He said, mocking a scream. "Words that start with A make that sound. So...AH-pple. Ah-pe. Ah-nts." Calder pointed to the pictures.
