A month. That's how long it took for life to go back to "normal". For the nightmares to go away. Of course, there was always that feeling nagging at her, telling her that the real nightmare was not over; part of her wondered if this was the calm before the storm... Or if they were just caught in the eye of the storm, a temporary peace. Still, she was in school for the classes, and classes she would attend.
That was "normal".
Rosenthal, looking slightly disgruntled, hung onto Lizzy's shoulder as she walked to the classroom she had seen burn to the ground so long ago. On the way in, she took a brief glance at the name list before walking in, grabbing a piece of paper from the folder on the way in without looking at it; it was probably a worksheet they would have to complete later in- What is that?
She stared at the three visible strips of landscape in front of her in sheer horror before chewing nervously on her lower lip. Quickly, she stared at the piece of paper clutched in her hand, only just realized that it was a map... Are those tentacles? And fog?
Oh great. So much for 'normal'.

( Solo here~) Siddie scooted hastily into the classroom, panting a little from her run across campus. She was late - well, no, not quite, according to her eyePhone clock. She doubted that Professor Malcolm would accept that as an excuse, though. My eyePhone clock says I'm on time, sir - yeah, no, that wouldn't go over well. She clutched Tox in one arm, the handout from the folder in the other; she'd actually worn pants this time, and a blouse less frilly and longer-sleeved than usual, just in case. ... The classroom looked like an obstacle course. It was - it was a little foggy, and were those boats she could see down there? Siddie bit her lip. Oh, no. Maybe attending this class had been a mistake. No, no maybe about it. But it was too late to leave now - she'd get in trouble, and she wouldn't let the other students see her turn tail and run like a coward. A glance around showed her a few faces she knew. She'd met Barth, and Gabrian, and she vaguely remembered the patchwork boil over there, and oh, Riley was here too. That was a relief. She edged over towards Riley, gravitating towards the familiar under stress. Oh, and there was Riley's boilfriend, the Doctor. "Uh - hi," she said, and was relieved to find that her voice came out steady instead of shaky.

"Don't look so uncertain."
From the seemingly bottomless pit, a giant purple tentacle appeared with the Minipet class teacher seated at the end. As with most of the staff, he was last seen on the boat he captained, heading towards the island before it crashed onto some rocks and went MIA... As he scanned the faces of his students, he started to frown; did his announcement over the Ickycom scared half of them into skipping class? He hoped not... His gaze went to the door of the class; he would allow latecomers this time.
Better late than dead, after all.
"Today's class is going to be a little special," He started, giving a brief nod as hes gestured at the class layout, "I hoped you brought the FEAR candy you made, or your Minipet might run into trouble. Today is all about trust - between each other as well as between your Minipet and you."
From within his pants pocket, he took out a piece of paper, unfolding it before holding it out towards the students.
"Nauticals - while they used to live only in water, it seems like they've adapted enough to be out of water for a short period of time as well," He looked stern as he continued, "You can't see them, but I've released a number of them into the water and this... Pit. While they're small in size, no larger than a Bruteball ball, do not belittle them - they can suck the FEAR out of your Minipets the same way the whips in my previous class can. The FEAR candy will replenish that lost FEAR, but only once," He folded the paper, stuffing it back into his pocket before frowning, "Your goal is to reach me, at the end of this classroom. Don't worry - they won't kill your Minipet. When they attack your Minipet, fight back. Fight with your Minipet with whatever you have - kick it, scratch it, punch it if you have to. Its all part of the bonding process."
He then paused, allowing the students to digest what he had said before continuing, "Next, pick a partner to cross this obstacle course with. I recommend picking a partner you will be able to trust... And obviously, use common sense. Think before you leap! It is important... If you can fly, but your minipet and partner can't, you can choose to carry them... Or walk. Boats and life vests are provided for non-swimmers, but you must really trust your partner to go for that option."
OOC: You have 48 hours from this post to choose a partner and a course (AIR, LAND OR WATER). When you have decided, post the code found below at the top of your post so I can keep track; only one person in the pair needs to post the code! People without a partner by the end of 48 hours will be paired up randomly, and if there are an odd number of people, you will get an NPC gnome.
SAME THING GOES FOR LATECOMERS! You have whatever time is left before the class close for good (48 hours) to pick a partner! You will also be expected to do detention after class.
This will be a dice rolling "battle", CYOA game/class; while its recommended that both partners be around every 24 hours to post a response for the pair, as long as 1 person in the pair posts for the day, you're good! Penalty for not posting = - HP from your Minipet. More info will be released when class officially starts!
Meanwhile, feel free to RP and interact!(NAME 1) AND (NAME 2) ARE GOING TO CHALLENGE THE (COURSE HERE) COURSE! Example:Malcom AND Vlad ARE GOING TO CHALLENGE THE Land COURSE!

"Hello," Barth said, glad to see Colette and Mandy. "Yes. I didn't end up too worse for the wear, on the island. Physically. Besides the walking. ...You made it through alright? Didn't see you at the Cove."
Malcom's announcement that they should pick a partner to navigate the map produced some conflict for Barth.
He knew Mandy and West were both strong, dependable teammates. He'd fought beside them on Candy Cane Lane, and on the boat trip, and on the island. They'd carried him (and his stuff) when he'd needed them to, and armed or unarmed, they were forces to be reckoned with.
Christof, who had inched closer to him in a way that he assumed was protective, certainly liked punching things, even if he had a tendency to...fall apart under pressure.
Calder...well, Barth wasn't sure what Calder was, exactly, or what kind of fighter he was. So far Barth had found Calder dependable for things like laundry, beauty treatments, and shopping. Otherwise, he could be...flighty. Barth thought it better not to risk that one.
Colette, of course, was also a strong fighter. She had dispatched various enemies on their Christmas trip with brutal efficiency, always landing hits and making insightful calls when it came to dangerous situations and non-targets. She'd been...well, sporting about Truth or Dare and diligent in fulfilling Favors. Dangerous and professional, his favorite combination.
He knew a few other students. Sin, for example, but the things he'd partnered up with her for had not exactly been fighting. Siddie was smart, elegant, and they'd cooperated satisfactorily in...flatware organizing. Gabrian had helped him with heavy-lifting in music class. Maladore was a fellow believer in scientific progress. Riley was his neighbor, a fast learner, and a vicious fighter. She processed and used information at alarming speeds, and they were on good terms aside from occasional undercurrents of...competitive tension between them. Nothing that prevented them from working together, should the situation call for it.
His carefully-reasoned sorting shut down, however, when he noticed Lilith.
"H-hi Lilith," he said, attention very noticably sucked away to focus on her. Lilith. Now there was danger, beauty, and competence all in one package. Any other choice seemed fuzzily far away in light of that confident, perfect stride and her dizzyingly blue eyes. He cleared his throat. "Don't suppose you've err, picked a teammate yet?"

"Uh.." Colette hesitated for a second, wanting to explain what happened without it sounding like complete failure. "I.. died-ish. Kind of?" It didn't technically count is 'dying,' right? She was just somehow suspended over the island in a lonely, colorless, bird's eye view for awhile.
Colette shrugged and sighed. "Let's just say I was allowed to fall into a --" stopping mid sentence, she turned her attention to the Professor now gracing them with his presence. Class was starting already! However, what Professor Malcom had to say wasn't very positive for the ghoul.
Dasher will be getting attacked? Was he even capable of surviving such a thing? The Reindeer wasn't very aggressive, and Colette foresaw difficulties. It was a relief she could help Dasher at least.
She didn't know how to feel about having a partner though. Would they be someone to watch after or an able student capable of helping her pass? What if she screwed up everything for her partner? She knew nothing good would come of that. It certainly wasn't acceptable. Of course, none of that mattered if you didn't have a partner in the first place.
Folding her arms nervously over the class assignment, Colette turned back to Barth to conclude her displeasing death-related sentence. Yet, he was talking to someone else already. Lilith. Colette wasn't sure what it was she was feeling. Awkward she didn't get to finish what she was talking about? Yeah, that. A little annoyed with Lilith? That too. Lilith was rude the last time Colette spent time around her. Hopefully that was just a hiccup. Colette didn't want to dislike her. Regardless, she wasn't going to make herself be around Lilith if she didn't have to. It's not like it was important to explain to Barth how she fell to her doom anyway. In fact, she preferred the idea of not doing so.
"Alright," Colette mumbled, "I need a partner then.." Her eyes scanned around the crowd of students, searching. Finding someone familiar wasn't exactly the problem, there were several students around that she knew. The only thing that concerned Colette was the question of who would actually want to be her partner? She certainly didn't want to bother someone who didn't need her and suffer the result of awkward embarrassment, nor did she really think anyone would just be dying to work with her. And the thought of failure still lurked in her mind. Unless.. maybe she could have some extra help.
"Professor! I have a question," Colette called out to Malcom as she raised her non-Dasher-occupied hand. "By 'whatever you have,' did you mean Reapers could use their weapons?" She knew having them around was certainly more effective than her trying to punch something with her bare hands, and with that, maybe someone would have a reason to actually want to be her partner!
[[ Little notice: I've got a field trip on the 12th requiring me to leave at 5:30AM and come back at probably 10PM, so I most likely won't be on at all that day. Just a heads up for any potential partners. D: ]]

Looking on about the room, Jericho stared as Malcom finally made his entrance. Well the task seemed simple enough, but he needed to have a partner. Seeing how he was thinking of tackling the aerial route, he needed to have someone who was capable of flight as a partner. This limited the possibilities quite a bit. Riley was most likely going to take on the land route with Mal anyway, he figured.
Taking a quick glance to see who was present, he made a face as he saw Astra around. Yes she could fly, but he wasn't about to partner up with her. Oh hey, there was West. He vaguely remembered something about Wrath demons having wings or something like that. The guy would likely be able to hold his own pretty well so he likely wouldn't have to worry too much about him.
So the dragon went on over towards West before motioning over at the chasm.
"Hey, want to try taking on the air course?" he asked while still holding onto his squirming firebreathing cat.

A partner? Christof shifted behind Barth as he became quickly swamped with ghouls just as he had raised his hand to try to get his Master's attention.
And promptly sagged as the Sloth practically melted at the sight of his ex-ghoulfriend. Fantastic.
No Mistress, no Master... what sort of useless Igor was he? His stomach twisted as he recoiled back, fidgeting with his hands as he tried to debate his options. And then he saw that horrible reigndeer. He hadn't seen that creature since the Truth or Dare party way back when- but that had been A GOOD THING. He was about to kick it away when he spotted Colette just on the other side of Barth, his expression souring.
Just... find a partner. Someone who... er... would hopefully want to keep their feet on solid ground. He wasn't a fan of boats nor plummeting to his doom.
Unfortunately, his options were running thin... Sure, there was Calder, and Calder was a dear friend, but Calder was.... er... Not... exactly who he'd want to be partnered with if there was a fight. Unless, of course, the kelpie were to take his natural form, and carry him, Scruff and the leeches across at warp speed? Could he even do that in a classroom? That might change matters...
Even so, he wasn't quite sure what to do, an anxious whine in his throat as he glanced about the other students while huddling shyly behind his Master.
There were plenty of students he thought he knew at least vaguely... but none, he suspected, that would trust him.
And there was Miss Sin of course... His expression lifted a bit dreamily as he debated... Mistress had said she would be upset if she marked him, but... but... that... didn't mean.... not HELPING her, right? Mistress was plenty busy always with Master Malodore and her filthy Dragon, after all... maybe he SHOULD let her mark him. She might actually give him proper commands and self worth.
What to do...

"Hm... I would rather weapons be kept out of this," He stroked his chin thoughtfully, "Colette, was it? No reaper weapons are allowed - wouldn't want to risk hurting the Minipets too much. They're trained to retreat after taking a certain amount of damage to stop them from dissipating, after all. Besides, as you might had noticed, summoning your weapon is not always possible when faced with a foe even if a reaper's weapon is part of you."
He was referring, of course, to their recent island field trip.
"Now, since we're on this topic, regarding natural forms," He eyed some of the students, those he knew had an alternate form, "As much as I would love to see you at what I assume is your best, if you're any larger than a draft horse in your natural form, I'm afraid you'll have to deal with your current form. I can't risk... Damaging this classroom too much a second time. If you're just long and not large-" He glanced briefly at the two dragons present with a wary expression, "-go for it."

Mandy looked pleasantly surprised to see Colette when the ghoul appeared, she hadn't heard anything of her since the trip. News of how she went on the island wasn't too alarming, so many people suffered that fate. "Dont worry I died too. Lots of us did."
That was all Mandy managed to get out before Malcolm appeared and started to explain the lesson to them.
....Trust? That was a bit of an ask. Most of them where practically strangers. Still if that was the ask then she knew exactly who to pair up with even if he wasn't the most battle proficient boi-
Was Barth completely ditching them for some other ghoul!?! She may have been able to stand him going for Colette or maybe forbthe patchwork shed seen him around with, but some random interloper. Barth may not realize it now but he had just earned Lilith an enemy in the form of the naturally possessive Drop Bear.
Sending a glare the ghouls way she huffed and started scanning for someone else to pair with. There was West, he was definatly battle sufficient and it would be fun to work with her riva-
Nope. Taken by that Dragon from the trip.
Who was left.... Colette seemed to be looking into other people so she was obviously a no go but who else did she know here?
It was then that flash of pink caught Mandys eye and with a grin she made a target to it, potential partner found. "Hey! Lizzy! Want to give this course a go together?"
As she asked this Mara started eyeing up Rosenthal, trying to figure out if the other mini would be any use. Mara probably wouldn't, there wasn't a whole lot she could do.

Calder hadn't even been wondering about natural forms only because they had always been a 'no', but then again, there never had been water in his classes. While he could just swim along, being in his natural form would be much more enjoyable not to mention easier to navigate under water. It all came down to what partner he took, he guessed, but then that word came up. Trust. There were few people Calder could even come close to saying he would consider trusting. While he was kind, friendly, and open to most everyone, he hadn't really said he trusted anyone. It was just natural for him. His mother had always said not to trust anyone else you put yourself in jeopardy. Aside from his own kind of course, but it wasn't like there was a whole herd of kelpie around to associate with and pair up with, not that he wanted to.
His eyes flickered to the few people he knew. Barth probably would be his partner if he carried him, but would he be up for getting wet? Then again, Calder guessed it would be okay to pass up water this one time to walk on land no matter how boring an alternative it was. Malley would go with Riley because they were together, so that bro was out. Lastly, there was Chrsitof, the one person he could trust. There was also Sin, someone who actually didn't mind going in the water with him and could swim.
Biting his lower lip, he rose his hand. "How big is a draft horse cause.......uh.....Is is bigger than say...an average looking horse?" He didn't know how big he was in comparison to a draft horse considering he was rather average in shape in his natural form.

Riley caught movement out of the corner of her eye, and looked up at the waving Ren. Then she looked back down at her map, only to snap her head up at the gryphon again. Why was he waving at her? The only logical reasoning Riley could think of was that the Professor had given him the information she needed about her role in this exercise. She folded the map back up and took two whole steps toward the boil, before the unthinkable happened.
A slash of purple entered Riley's peripheral vision, stopping her in her tracks as she turned to watch the Professor arrive on a giant purple tentacle.
Giant purple tentacles meant only one thing, to Riley.
The elder brain had come. Her task had failed. And now they were going to destroy everything.
EVERYONE GET BACK! She screamed, pulling as many students behind her as she could, before she crouched down into attack position. She tried to reach out and sense the elder brain, but she felt nothing - so twisted, so devious, it had blocked her completely. She didn't hear a single word the Professor said - her adrenaline had deafened her to the sound around her. She growled low, flickered her gaze to the students that she felt were all suddenly in mortal danger, and lunged headfirst for the tentacle itself.
YOU CAN'T HAVE THEM, THEY ARE MINE!
Cam the Cthulhu flattened against the wall to the back of the class, before skittering outside. This was so not it's scene.

"Mandy!"
Was that relief in her voice? It probably was; seeing how neither of the friends she was actually closer to (except maybe Riley and Jericho, but she was sure Riley would go with Malodore and Jericho looked like he was going to approach West) were in the class. While she wasn't that close to Mandy, they did go through a terrible life-and-death situation together. That made them friends, right? Right.
"Sure! The... Land course?" She smiled as she felt Rosenthal lift itself off her shoulder and land on her head. The minipet was eying Mara, sizing her up.
"Yo," He wriggled his ear-wings as he raised a limb at the other Minipet, "Name's Rosenthal."

"A draft horse. Hm, I would say they're a little under 7 feet in height. At least the ones I've seen," He nodded at Calder, "If you compare it to an average sized horse, it is considerably larger."
Before he could say anymore, however, he heard a mental scream through his mind and winced; this could only mean one student. Why. Why must something always happen in his class due to him not thinking things through? Giant purple tentacle. Why didn't he ask for giant green tentacles? Or red tentacles?
Another tentacle rose from the pit, and grabbed Riley around her legs before lifting her off the ground so that she was hanging upside down right in front of the professor... Who looked more concerned than annoyed, although he was visibly trying not to fly into a rage which would involve more than just table flipping.
"Stop. Think before you leap." He patted the tentacle he was currently seated on, "Does it look like we're in danger? Do you think I would allow my students to be put in danger?"
Oh wait. That sounded kind of ironic.

Malodore eyed the courses with utter distaste - it didn't trust Parassiti as far as it could throw her. (Which, to be fair, was probably a good ten feet, but you'd have to grab her first.) She was a scrappy creature, true... but in the plague doctor's opinion, she was more likely to bite it instead, out of sheer spite.
Sigh. Why couldn't it have taken this class with Luce?
The FEAR candy it had made earlier was tucked into one sleeve, carefully encased in a plastic bag. The thing was oddly heavy for its size, slippery, and foul. It might well do a better job of killing the Scrags than the odd shelled beasts.
The plague doctor sighed and looked around. It would absolutely be taking the land route - no flight capability, and no desire to be waterlogged. And it would have to travel with someone more capable in battle. It sidled towards Riley, then paused as she....
....
....... Well. Apparently she was picking the water route.

Riley was not trying to keep herself from flying into a rage - no, she was definitely flying into a rage from the moment the tentacle grabbed her and pulled her over. Her body bent up using the strength of her legs, and her claws were already sinking deep into the flesh of the tentacle when things began to click in her head.
The Professor wasn't captured, he was lounging on a tentacle like it was his personal chair, and he was patting it. He was also speaking to her in a voice that sounded less like anguish and more like condescending apathy.
She disengaged the claws from the tentacle and just held on, eying the Professor critically. If he really wanted her to answer that last question, he should have remembered their first class. As it was, she tempered her anger and glared thinly. Professor. She finally hissed out, the thin veil of disguise failing to hide the rage in her voice. I find this use of purple tentacle monsters as racist.
