Kaia waited mostly-patiently as Ashley paid and tipped the waitress, only fidgeting a little as she thought about the fact that she was letting someone else pay for something that she should have been paying for herself. Then again, she supposed she was about to let that someone else pay for a lot more than her fruit bowl.

This letting others help her thing was going to take a lot of getting used to.

"I don't mind walking." She stood up, stepped to the side, and slid her chair carefully back under the table. She grabbed the messenger bag she usually used as a purse and slung it across her shoulders, then stepped up beside Ashley so she could lead the way. "Just as long as you don't mind my complete obliviousness to this.. fashion thing when we get there." She smiled as she spoke, but she somehow doubted any of it was going to be easy or make sense for her.

She could play dress-up though, if it made her sister-in-arms feel better.

Ashley started walking, then, after making sure that Kaia was following.

"Don't worry." She grinned. "I think this will be right up your alley..."

This place was, or at least had been, Ashley's little secret. Calling it a tiny hole in the wall was appropriate - the boutique was wedged in between two much larger shops and went mostly unnoticed unless anyone was paying attention.

Many of Ashley's friend had wondered how she had found some of her most amazing clothing pieces. Kaia was about to figure out exactly how.

The clerk seemed to recognize the shorter girl outright, and smiled as she came in - Ashley smiled back, then led Kaia further toward the back.

"Everything's here shorted by color. The owner is a little eccentric." But handy ? Yes. "The neutral tones should be about... Ha ! Right here !" And that was where she finally stopped. "Have a look, Kaia~ !"

Kaia seemed a little unsure that Ashley was actually going to find anywhere that she was absolutely comfortable, but Kaia was willing to give her a chance as long as she wasn't one of those people that believed in learning form mistakes. As much as she didn't care about looking high fashion, she also didn't want to draw attention for looking ridiculous.

She followed Ashley into the store, trying to look like she wasn't completely and totally out of her element, and only smiled as the man greeted her companion so enthusiastically. Then she trailed after Ashley like a puppy until the girl stopped in front of a section that Kaia could only explain as way more sensible than any other store organization she had ever seen.

"Oh wow." She stepped up at Ashley's side as she let her eyes roam over it all. She still looked and felt a little helpless but it was slightly less so now that she could see things that looked cohesive. "This looks a little less daunting than I imagined." Then her overthinking gears began to whir and she glanced sidelong at Ashley.

"I still should have color though, right? Isn't all neutral bad or something? What's the word, uh, emo?" It seemed someone had been spending a little too much time watching TV. She took a few hesitant steps forward and plucked lightly at the sleeve of a shirt that seemed to be flowy and loose - something that definitely appealed to her. "I don't get styles at all though."

"Isn't it amazing ?" She said with a grin, pleased with Kaia's reaction. "One of my mother's friends owns it... So I get discounts all the time. Doesn't looks like Laureen's here today through..." Ah well. Probably for the better. She didn't really feel like chatting it up with her today - she would inevitably ask how Matthew was doing and... Well.

She'd talked about that once, and saw no need to talk about it to someone who wasn't 'in the know', so to say.

"Honestly I just dress however I like. I don't really... follow styles or fashions or whatever. I just make sure the colors don't clash. We can see what you like here then go see what matches it ? Like I said, I get a pretty big discount, so go nuts."

"That's pretty lucky," her brows rose as she said it, impressed by the connections that Ashley had. Things like that were always a surprise to her because she didn't have anything even remotely similar. Having no civilian life meant no civilian connections.

"Alright," she was only a little hesitant as she let her eyes roam across the display of clothes that spanned out in all directions around them. She had no idea where to start on this, it was just as foreign to her as if she were trying to repair a computer.

She looked over at Ashley one last time in a silent plea for help and then stepped forward into the sea of clothes, wading between one island and the next under Ashley's careful guidance.

It was going to take a while, but they were getting somewhere.
