"To develop stuff?" Hayes shrugged. "Maybe. But like you said - Deimos has his weaknesses. One of them's probably getting along with people."
"Tyler came to my defense. He's one of the guys I was talking about; we TA'ed different sections of the same course. He told me something while we were grading finals .. " Tilting his head, the Rocket studied the stars out of the corner of his eye. "He said 'I envy how you talk to people and they respond.' That kind of floored me."

Hazel eyes blinked, taken aback by his point... it was true... but it was the fact that it mattered that surprised her. Or maybe she was reading to much into it, either way, her face flushed pink a little.
"Deimos was fairly useless at everything else... something so simple as a riddle." She turned away, not sure why her face continued to burn a little. just moving the conversation along. "I do see your point..." She rubbed at the side of her neck and her shoulder, smiling weakly. "And I have to agree, you have a way with people, and pokemon, naturally, in a "Team" aspect, that is important." She straightened her posture a little "So I've observed."

"I hope so," Hayes smiled in his mellow fashion, though he lifted his brows when Faleen turned away. "You're pretty awesome."
It was his turn to look away then; when a compliment was sent his way, he became rather interested in the toe of his boot. "Heh," he laughed, most of his expression save a bashful grin obscured by his bangs. "Thanks."

She was... so glad she wasn't looking at him when he said that to her. Hearing him saying that she was 'pretty awesome' was something she didn't expect, catching her by surprise, so much so that she felt her face burn a little warmer, eyes blinking quickly a few times.
"No problem" She replied to his thanks, not sure if that was really the right response to it. one hand fell back to her knees, as she seemed to distract herself by trying running her fingers through her hair a couple of times, working frazzled strands back into place.
This quickly brought her back to something of a... cautionary stance however. "I have a question... and please don't take this the wrong way... but why are you so nice?" She glanced to the side a little, though not looking directly at him.

Hayes raised his head and thought for a moment.
Then he brushed an errant bit of hair out of his eyes and leaned forward, the weight of his elbows on his knees again, and looked at Faleen from an indirect angle.
"Would you feel better if I was more of a jerk?" There was some humor there, but he was half-serious.

In some cases, when someone was a jerk Faleen did feel more secure around them, at least she would know what to expect. She didn't entirely trust nice people, not that she didn't appreciate that kind of behavior. Each person was different after all.
"No... No." She shook her head, looking back over at him from over her shoulder. Had she not caught the humor in his tone she would have thought she had offended him. "There isn't anything wrong with it, its just not something you commonly see in Team Rocket.. so I'm curious."

"Heh." Hayes' grin made a brief appearance at some private joke - or not so private. They were both familiar with who he worked with.
"I guess there's not much point in it," the Rocket decided after a bit. "Kind of like swearing. Use it when you need it, but if you go around saying 's**t' all the time people just think you don't know another way to get results.. and after a while they stop listening and just think less of you. Life's easier when you can get along with people anyway."

She blinked, her expression softening with a slight hum of understanding "its sound reasoning... I can understand that."
She really could, and it was something of a pleasant surprise not to get an answer like 'becasue I like people' or something similar, a reply she usually got from Non-rockets.
It was something of a relief, maybe he did fit in with Rocket, after all, Faleen herself wasn't one to pick fights, or create enemies either.

Hayes' expression, a bit more serious than its usual mild set, relaxed a fraction.
It occurred to him at this point that it was cold. The desert held no heat at night, and the sun's latent warmth had long been sucked from the concrete steps, which they'd been sitting on for a good while. It was also probably edging on to some hour he didn't care to think about - so he didn't.
"You're looking a lot better," the blond agent commented, regarding Faleen a little more fully.

She considered this statement for a moment, eyes drifting down to the steps for a moment of two before looking back up at him . "... I feel better" She said, with a small sigh of relief. turning back to the desert again. "Thank you."

She was met with a quiet little smile - something softer than the habitual way he held his mouth.
"No problem," said Hayes, and meant it.

She let some time pass in silence, staring out over the desert, the agent was becoming aware of how quickly the day was catching up to her. She hadn't even been paying attention to what time it was. Letting out a soft sigh, Faleen eventually pushed herself to her feet, crossing her arms over her chest. "Its probably best to call it a night."
She tilted her head a little "I'm going to have to bring this unfortunate update to Seth tomorrow." She wasn't looking forward to telling the Executive that they wouldn't be able to finish the project.

"Yeah." It came out as a grunt as Hayes got up, pushing his arms out with fingers laced in a stretch.
He winced slightly at the next thing she said and looked at her sidelong, twitching his glasses back in place. "You want any help with that?" the tech asked, stopping himself from calling it 'reinforcements.'

Closing her eyes for a moment, unfolding her arms to brush sand and dirt from her skirt, She let out a soft sigh though her nose, considering his offer, before she shook her head lightly. hands falling to her side as she looked up at him. "I shouldn't, I have to submit an update report anyway."
Seth was going to need to know, She wasn't so much scared of how he would react... knowing just how he would react, and that didn't bother her. She just hated the thought of admitting once again that they couldn't do it. "I appreciate the offer though, if thats what you were doing." she added with a small smile.

There was a brief second when Faleen's smile seemed to give Hayes pause. Then he blinked and lapsed into the sideways glance and absentminded ruffle of hair that was probably becoming quite familiar by now. "Maybe," the blond grinned, an amused quirk to his lips when he looked up again. "Not everyone likes to give him bad news."
