So today is Veterans Day here in the USA and Remembrance day in many other places. I'm attempting to hold a small Feast of the Einherjar at my home tonight.

I tend to extend honouring my Beloved Dead until the 11th every year. Both my family and my husband's have significant ties to both Great Wars, and I have family members who were lost in the conflicts. My family still continues to participate in military service; my youngest brother joined the RCAF this year, and my cousin Amelia has been in officer's training for a couple years now in the same.
I keep my poppies every year - they rest in the keeping of one of my shrines to an appropriate deity.

Why'd the US stop celebrating Armistice Day?
Our big one is ANZAC day of course.

We didn't exactly. We just decided to shift focus a little. Instead of focusing on the armistice and the people involved in WWI, they seem to have decided to turn it into a day of honor and remembrance for those who've served in all of our wars. I don't know, maybe they just wanted to separate it from that British holiday, since Remembrance/Armistice day is (or at least was) a commonwealth thing.

Thorns and Spices Why'd the US stop celebrating Armistice Day? Our big one is ANZAC day of course. Found it here in this Article.
And here's Wiki's shortened take on it:
Wikipedia "In 1953, an Emporia, Kansas man named Alvin King the owner of a shoe repair shop, had the idea to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans, not just those who died in World War I. King had been actively involved with the American War Dads during World War II. He began a campaign to turn Armistice Day into "All" Veterans Day. The Emporia Chamber of Commerce took up the cause after determining that 90% of Emporia merchants as well as the Board of Education supported closing their doors on November 11 to honor all veterans. With the help of U.S. Representative Ed Rees, also from Emporia, a bill for the holiday was pushed through Congress. President Dwight Eisenhower signed it into law on May 26, 1954." So, basically what CalledTheRaven said. Just figured I'd add a bit'o historical background to her already correct answer. sweatdrop

Damn. Solstice is tomorrow. And I have no plans! I've been so worried about other stuff that it snuck up on me. Though I'm not too worried about that yet. I've been telling myself for years that I've been wanting to do something the solstices and equinoxes and never getting around to doing something for them. I'm more worried about trying to figure out when the Kemetic holidays are.
Plus with Christmas on Sunday I've been pulling my hair out since I have no idea where the house is that Christmas is at this year. And how I'm going to get there since both my mom and sister hate that side of the family.

Well Thanksgiving was the first time I had seen my aunts in like a year and a half and it was such a huge change when I moved in with my mom because we were always at my aunts' for any holiday.
All I've found on Kemetic holidays were that New Year's is when the star, Sirius rises. So New Year's will change depending on location. Then I found a list of a few festivals for some of the gods but don't know exactly when they are until I find out when New Year's would be for my area.
Edit: New Year's is first full moon after Sirius rises.

I've got a small solstice thing on Thursday and I'm going to try to stay up tomorrow night to actually see the sunrise. On Friday my lady's kids are coming over for the weekend to do Christmasy things and Monday will be family celebrations at either my grandma's or my guy's grandparents'. We're not entirely sure which one we're going to yet, but we can't make both what with them being at the same time but about two hours away from each other.

Ok so if I ended up counting right, out of the Kemetic holidays that I found, today(since its like 2:30am) would be fAt aHt if my sources or correct(the one should be. Its a Navy site).
Nevermind. I was a day off. That was yesterday.

But you're figuring it out at least! And so what if it's a day late, could you still do something?

That is true. I did that for Samhain because I had plans to see if I could try to contact my grandma.
But if where I got that list from is right(haven't exactly been able to find other sources that mention fAt aHt yet) it wouldn't make sense in this season. The site called fAt aHt "raising the field" which would make sense because that's probably when the Nile ceased flooding and the people were able to start planting(completely guessing on this. Haven't been able to look into that completely yet).
