...oh. Well, it wasn't much of a kiss, no, but it did succeed in freezing Ever for a moment, left him blinking and thinking about it, still crooked across the bed and bundled up in Zac's ridiculous robe and certainly not at his best and...
Well, he also wasn't self-conscious, nor half so jittery. He leaned forward as Zac leaned back, a hand sliding over his cheek and into still-damp hair to draw him gently back down. When he caught Zac's mouth it wasn't timid or quick, and Ever at least knew what he was doing.

It startled him in a way, how careful it was, how gentle, not rushed or brimming over with energy. He still didn't know what he was doing but he could learn. It wasn't like kissing Dem had been... he didn't know why he would have expected it to be. He was still working to relax into it, but not as much as he thought he would have to.
He had no idea what to do with his hands so he just tried to put them places they wouldn't be... invasive or in the way, though there was some temptation to let them rest against the other...he just wasn't -sure-.
His shoulders still were tense though...and his carefully placed hands shook just a little

Very young, and very small, neither of which were something Ever usually dealt with -- so he stayed careful, at least, taking hold of Zac's hands to settle them gently against his chest, the robe slipping sideways off his lap as he sat up on an elbow.
"Relax, I'm not going to bite you." It was a mumble against Zac's mouth, encouraging, thumb shifting up under his ear, a thoughtlessly distracting little touch. And then Ever ruined it with a smile, his usual, a flash of teeth. "Um. Unless you want me to, I guess..."

He pulled back slightly at that, not hard or far just surprised enough to turn his head slightly. "What are you... a vampire?" He'd just meant to tease but the small motion put him back teetering with uncertainty. What did he want... what did he want out of this, what if it was...
Too much thinking...
Way too much thinking... but it still, it wasn't unpleasant, not right now. He leaned in for another cautious kiss, a little better than before at least... what harm was a few minutes of not thinking about it.

"Relax -- " he might have said more, but then Zac leaned in again and he let it drop with a swallowed sound. This sort of thing was probably precisely why Hillsworth didn't let visitors into the dorm rooms after hours...
This definitely had been his intent on coming over. Ever had thought he'd be grilled, interrogated, and then potentially hauled out for a little sparring. Not, of course, that he minded the shift. One hand still buried in damp hair, he skated the other absently down Zac's spine and sighed out a breath, his eyes closed.
He hadn't started pushing his luck, just yet, but it was only a matter of time -- so disappointing as it was when a knock came on the door, Ever would probably appreciate it in the long run.

He almost jerked away like he could be seen through the door, doing anything BUT relax after the knock, it didn't even look like he thought about breathing for a moment.
"Lights out!" Called the voice outside the door and to fight to make his voice sound normal when he called back..."Right."
"Jesus..." He said flushing after the footsteps moved on to the next door and repeated the process. "damn... god..." He said quietly flushing. "We gotta get you out of here..."

Ever grinned up at him shamelessly, his cheeks still warm and his pupils very large, clutching after Zac so he couldn't get too far. Teenagers panicked, they worried about teachers or hall monitors or whatever it might be. Ever, on the other hand, was more relaxed, and much too comfortable to worry about being seen, or caught, or...
He leaned up to press his mouth against Zac's throat, instead. His heart was pounding, yes, but it had very little to do with fear. "Or we could just turn off the lights...?"

That earned a short and edgy laugh, a little short of breath perhaps, and a smalll sound that certanly didn't count as disinterest at the lips pressed against his throat and the hasty heartbeat that thundered there. "We could..."
It was almost a hopeful concession, except that it didn't stop there.
"But 'we' aren't.." His own heart beat had a little too much fear in it, too fast too much...too soon? "Not... tonight." He said carefully and closed his eyes trying to block out everything, trying to be calm and rational before he finally pulled away, putting distance between himself and Ever, the room felt a great deal chillier with reason setting into the damp.
"J...just, not tonight."

All he had to do was nudge, at least, and Ever sprawled back onto the bed. Tangible disappointment, a little huffing breath, a shift to adjust himself, and then he stayed right there for the moment: waiting for his breathing to go back to normal and the hormones to settle back slowly into place...
"...okay." Not tonight. He could live with that. Ever rubbed at his eyes, scraped hair back out of his face, and still stayed right where he was. Taking his time instead of retreating like a guilty party. "Sure. Not tonight."

"Sorry..." the apology came out as a rush as he made a sort of... awkward way to flip the lights out so that they wouldn't get another knock. Fingers swept through his hair in rapid succession yanking at small damp tangles "I'm sorry I just..." He started to try and explain and then lost the words for a moment.
He looked ashamed, not guilty at least just... like he thought he should have done more maybe.
"I just... I was... kinda stupid once."
Once didn't leave a lot of options given his 'date' history, mentioned in passing the last time they had legitimately sparred. Though how far 'stupid' went was open to interpretation.

"It's okay, Zac." And it was. Mostly. Even if his voice sounded thick, a little, and he was still sprawled on the bed, waiting for things to cool down some. well, maybe just one thing. He made a faint noise, clearing his throat, and finally sat up.
"I've been really stupid a lot of times, so..." He could understand, and maybe this was being not stupid for once. Ever reflected on that, thinking, uncertain, and decided he would rather have been stupid. Alas.
"Well. Yeah." He perched on the edge of the bed, hunting in the dark for his shoes.

"I didn't mean..." He started and stopped again. "I just...I sound retarded don't I..." He said miserably. "I don't mean to be a 'tease'... or... um...yeah." He fumbled and stammered.
"Are you.. um... mad?" He asked far more nervous than someone who was a General should probably have been.

A quick look up at Zac, squinting in the dark as he fumbled into his shoes. It was hard to make out the young man's face, to tell just how worried he was about this, but his tone of voice made it clear so -- Ever didn't bother with the laces, just shoved his feet into the shoes and crossed the room.
He was a dark blur topped with bright white, his hair reflecting every speck of light. Contrast to the dark pits of his eyes as he leaned down to go for another kiss, fingertips just brushing lightly against Zac's stomach. It was brief.
"It's okay." He sounded more convincing this time, even if this was very counter productive to Ever's attempts to cool down. "Don't freak out. Stop obsessing. I'll go out the window."

Ever's attempts weren't the only one it was counter productive to in truth, but at least it shifted Zacs gears from 'all encompassing guilt back towards a more pleasant if hesitant venues.
His cheeks were hot and he had to pause before he spoke again but he nodded and realized it was probably hard to see in the dark.
"Thank you..." he said and put his own hand over Ever's and it was his turn to give a small squeeze.
"Um... Be safe... ok?"

A wobble, a moment's hesitation, a tip of his head -- and then, sighing, Ever stepped back, swiping at his hair, laces dangling as he made for the window. Backwards, so that he could watch the dark shape of Zac as he went. It meant he stumbled a little, hand curled against the window frame, and he shifted uncertainly. Ever really, really wanted to stay. But he'd be good.
"You know I'm not letting you pretend this didn't happen..." He cracked the window, started out, his eyebrows raised even if Zac couldn't see it. "So don't you dare rethink."
