2 days later, 5:30pm July 10th
Location: Baker's Island, Main Building, Banquet Hall

After a fall such as this, I shall think nothing of tumbling downstairs!

--------------------------------------------------------------Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll

The sound of waves could be clearly heard over the conversations of other members at the party. Maísa loved the way the arches seemed to reflect the sunlight and ocean air down into the banquet hall. She couldn't believe that she was here. Every year, the representatives held a banquet such as this and apparently, some of the people who attend even end up receiving high paying jobs in the world's government. Apparently, each of the representatives had also been a part of this banquet before anyone had even heard of them. And even those who don't receive a government job always seemed to be better than before.

User ImageBut right now, she wasn't really thinking about fame and fortune. She sort of already had that. She was instead thinking about the architecture of the room and the ocean. It was all lovely. Iara would love this. Maísa wished that she could share this with her. In her mind she made a small wordless song that she sang from her heart. She would sing it to Iara later and perhaps it will bring some pieces of this places back to her.

There was a woman with long dark hair sitting to her right and a blonde man to her left. She wondered if she should start a conversation with them. But alas, the clinking of a glass prevented her from doing so.

"May I have your attention please," A woman said as she stood up at the main table. She was sitting to the right of the four representatives. Maísa recognized her as Ava Hirschfeld. She was always on TV and the radio and such. It was a bit hard to ignore her. She seemed nice.

Hirschfeld continued to make a speech. Maísa wasn't really listening, her heart was in her song. The representatives took their turns saying a few words. Maísa watched the sky instead. It was still immensely bright even though it was nearly 7:00. If only she was here in the winter, she thought. She had always wanted to see the northern lights. Soon the banquet ended and a butler led them to their rooms. She followed delighted at the simply decorated corridors.

Her room was just as wonderful, with a large bed and a spacious window that opened up to the sea. She slid out of her evening gown and into a short miniskirt and t-shirt, something comfortable for the evening. There would be tea at 9:00 in the common room, her schedule had said. It was apparently mandatory to participate in that activity. Someone would come to the door to escort her there. Maísa wondered why tea was so important. At least it was casual. She couldn't stand wearing that dress any longer.

A man came to the room in about an hour. Kiyoshi looked down at his watch. It was exactly 8:55. He greeted the man with a slight bow, uncertain exactly who he was. The man was taller than he looked, Kiyoshi noted, now that he was standing next to him.

“Hey, so I’m here to escort you to this tea thing.” The man said, his accent sounded American. “Name's Owen by the way.”

Kiyoshi smiled and said in a more broken English. “Thank you, My name is Kiyoshi.” He had picked up some of the language through business meetings and such but he only knew enough of the language to get by in business meetings and such. Most of the time, he had a voice translator in his ear, but machine translations are never the best. And he could never just assume that everyone else was wearing one also.

“So you like tea?” Owen asked as they walked down the hallway towards the tea party.
“Not so much.” Kiyoshi answered.
“Me neither. I’m more of a milk and whiskey guy myself.”

Kiyoshi nodded as they stepped into what seemed to be a small living room. The entire room was full of windows that faced the ocean. Having lived on the coasts of Japan for most of his childhood, he sort of took the ocean view for granted. But looking at it now, it did seem majestic.

“Sit,” Owen instructed, gesturing towards the sofa next to an enormous black grand piano. A few more people had filed in after them and were taking their seats. The door closed as soon as the clock struck nine. There were only about twenty or thirty people in the room, much less than there had been at the banquet. Kiyoshi wondered if the others were having a similar tea party elsewhere.

://Sorry, I have not made character profiles for these people yet. I shall do so soon. I wanted to get the rp started faster. >.<

YOU MAY POST NOW!!! CURRENT SETTING: THE TEA PARTY
PostPosted: Fri Jul 22, 2011 7:33 pm

There was a soft whir of servos as Max entered the room. His replacement leg was one of the top of the line when he received it, and he'd done his best to maintain it, but all technology had it's limits. At least the sound was only a whisper. He'd seen older models that could be heard across a room. As he sat down in the leg of his shorts pulled up to expose the knee joint, leaving most of the mechanical leg exposed, except for the foot, which was covered by a shoe, of course. If you asked him, he would admit that he wore shorts not just because he was used to desert heat, but because he liked to see people's reactions to the leg. Prosthetics were an almost everyday occurrence in some places, but most people paid extra to get realistic looking limbs. Max, however, was proud of the fact that his was bare metal.

As he leaned back in his seat, made of supple red leather on a wooden frame, he looked around the room. Next to him was a telescope, polished to an almost gold finish, if it wasn't made of the precious metal itself. On his other side was a small fireplace, giving him a taste of heat that reminded him of home. There was also a grand piano with black paint so well done it looked as though your hand would pass through into nothing if you tried to touch it. This was probably the most interesting thing in the room to him, not only for the music it could make, but for the mechanical intricacies that went into it's operation. Hundreds if not thousands of parts, all working together in a design perfected hundreds of years ago, that could make the softest of whispers or fill a concert hall.

As he stared off into the distance towards the piano, his mind started to wander. Why was he here? Just a day ago he was toiling away in his repair shop, trying to get a regular customer's car running again. The car was an antique, one of the first to use solar cells as it's sole source of power. The old cells were prone to vibrate in their housings over rough roads, which messed with the wiring. Combined with the tendency for the electric motors to suck up seemingly impossible amounts of dust, and it was a wonder the car had ever been deemed roadworthy. The old man stood by it, though, and insisted that it was one of the greatest vehicles ever designed. Max rolled his eyes just thinking about it, wondering what the man would be doing now that the only man he trusted his car to was gone.

On the subject of being gone, he has to mentally ask again; why was he here? He knew that people invited to banquets like the one he had to attend last night usually ended up with government jobs, but why would they want him? Did they need a new head mechanic?

Maísa found herself sitting next to the same blonde man she had sat by during the banquet. She wondered if he had even noticed her then. Probably, she thought. After all, it was rather hard to not notice someone sitting right next to you. Now that he was wearing shorts, she could see his prosthetic leg. It was one of the old metal ones that she didn't think anyone still used. Maísa wondered how he had lost that leg or, perhaps, if he had ever had it in the first place.

"Hi!" She said. She had learned a bit of english through singing. Actually most people have told her that her english was quite good, but she would never admit it. "My name is Maísa." She hesitated for a moment wondering if she was being a bit to outspoken in talking to this person or to see if something important was beginning. But there was nothing except a man pouring out tea for everyone. Maísa noted that he was actually quite a bit taller than she thought he was as he stood up to hand a cup of it to her. Perhaps something important will begin when everyone has a cup of tea. Sipping at her cup, she sighed. It was quite an expensive blend of some leaves that she couldn't name mixed with chamomile. It was lovely. Her mother was quite fond of tea. Maísa wondered if there would be a way to bring some of the tea leaves back to her. She breathed in the steam, letting it roll around inside of her.

Max was still staring at the piano, thinking about that godawful suit they gave him earlier when he heard the girl next to him speak. Of course she had to be talking to him, because she'd sat by him at the banquet, and it was just his luck that she would want to talk. He wasn't very social, and only talked to people if it involved business. It didn't seem like it would be possible to avoid this conversation, however, the girl was speaking directly to him, and she was seated right next to him. Besides, her voice sounded somewhat familiar, which had sparked his interest.

"Max." He introduced himself with a nod. He would have been more formal, but a man was passing out drinks. He took the cup that was handed to him and was disappointed to discover that it was some kind of fancy tea. He tried to hide his frown, but he'd much rather have a cup of coffee. Oh, well, he should have expected this; he'd been told they'd be serving tea. Without so much as a second sniff he set the cup on the arm of the chair, moving the cup bit to set the tea swirling around the inside.

Phaedre OoO Axis OoO Deveroux

An apathetic genius:

Axis turns the page of her book, absentmindedly tapping her long nails against the arm rest of her chair. Click-clack-click. The time before was a chaotic period... click-clack-click ...filled with wars and bloodshed... click-clack-click ...blahblahblah. Bored, she snaps the thin volume shut and tosses it to the floor. The server chooses this moment to attempt to serve her tea, of all things.

"Chto eto za derʹmo?"

The server paused, obviously confused.

"P-pardon?"

Axis, annoyed, tapped the cup with one finger.

"This s**t. What is?"
"Herbal tea, ma'am."
"Herbal tea. Tch. I try."

Taking one of the glasses in hand, Axis swallowed the glass in on gulp.

"Ah, not so bad, eh? This, I will drink. Bring another."

She tosses the cup to the sever, smiling slightly when he manages to catch it then turns back to the view.

"Now old man can appear and explain this idiocy... vyhodit staryĭ durak vyĭti..."

Turning to view the room, her gray eyes paused over each member of this new set of sacrifices. She wondered if any else knew what awaited them. She wondered what they would do if they should ever discover the identity of the architect of their nightmare to come. She wondered if she would learn how it felt to be torn to pieces. She wondered if she might die of boredom, first. It was not just this day. It was the last hundred days or more. There were no more challenges before her, you see. Nothing to spark the brilliant mind which would not, could not leave a knot undone. She lived to shine light into the dark places where others would not tread. Fearful fools, she called them. Driven by the need to know what would happen if this was this way, or that way, or gone altogether...

No longer. There was nothing left to push her. No ambition or great dream. It was as if she were a young girl once more, lacking in ambition but not talent. Axis could revolutionize the way mankind lived. If she only wanted to. So perhaps that was it. The day she had told them she was giving up her work, they had thought her a loose end. Well, if that was how it would be played... Grasping the edges of the window, she leaned out, dangling herself out over the ledge to shout to the sky:

"Vyvedi ih, vash musorshchikov i adskih chudovishch. Vedi nas na boĭnyu. YA pokazhu vam, nevyrazimye glubiny. Ya privedu terrora k vashemu porogu , i vy budete drozhatʹ ot straha. Smertʹ tem, kto vystupaet protiv moyeĭ voli. Skorbʹ na golovy moih vragov."

Then she laughed, mirthlessly, as those others who knew not of the bloodprice to be paid stared. Pulling herself back in, she drained her flask and tossed it to the floor alongside the already discarded book.

"Nice day, no?"

Axis knew she looked crazed. She felt it. Why not be honest?

Will solve your problems. Will not tell you the answers.

R1: Idiot, what s**t is this? IIII R2: Come out old fool, come out. IIII R3: Bring them out, your scavengers and hellish beasts. Lead us on to slaughter. I will show you the untold depths. I will bring terror to your doorstep and you will tremble in fear. Death to those who oppose my will. Sorrow on the heads of mine enemy.

"Oh do try some," Maísa said when she noticed Max put the cup down. "It is absolutely marvelous. I've never had tea like this before." She took another sip, letting the steam rise up to meet her skin. Closing her eyes, she hoped that Max would also at least give it a chance. He seemed like a nice person. Already, Maísa was quite fond of him. But then, Iara had always said that she was fond of everyone.

The Lady who had sat next to her during the banquet was now sitting across the room from her. She seemed crazy, she thought, and wondered what had happened to make her so. Her eyes seemed too bright, there was much intelligence within her, Maísa was sure of it even though she didn't understand a word that the lady said. She wondered briefly if she too should be worried about what will happen next. This entire banquet and tea party did seem....odd. "Fique tranquilo (1)" She said towards the woman before realizing that she had been speaking Portuguese. "It will all be alright." Then taking another sip of her tea she let the steam calm her.

://Disclaimer: I am not Brazillian nor have I ever learn Portuguese before.... These phrases are all from the internet."
(1) Don't worry

"Fique tranquilo."

Axis turned her eyes to the brunette, gaze intent and likely unnerving. Not that she cared. The accent placed the girl in the America's somewhere. Shouldn't she be speaking English? Or Spanish, at least. Sort of sounded Spanish. Tranquilo... tranquil? Peace? Maybe it was a way to tell her to shut up. This and many other thoughts crossed her mind in a jumbled mess in the few moments between words.

"It will all be alright."

Axis laughed, cackled really, at that.

"V tikhom omute cherti vodyatsa. This is optimism. You learn, soon. Then, we see what colors your stripes, eh? I wish luck on you."

Pausing for a moment, Axis grimaced.

"For my English, apologies. Not so good to be speaking, yes? Well. What are you called after? Graveheads need names."

A crooked grin twisted her visage into something trying to resemble a friendly face but failing rather miserably. Axis was nothing like a people person. Being pleasant was not within her abilities. Not that she realized this. Being a veritable genius had skewered her sense of what she could and could not achieve. Axis simply assumed that she would succeed at whatever she attempted without mishap. This was, of course, incorrect.

Will solve your problems. Will not tell you the answers.

Surely the woman sitting next to him was completely mad. Kiyoshi had seen business meetings go bad, with all the pent up anger and frustration boiling within each one of the members as they had to endure sitting still for hours on end in a small stuffy room. Still, it wasn't bad enough to warrant a death reference. Kiyoshi thought mildly of his past partner who had always compared the way she ran every business and rose in the ranks to war and battle. Perhaps he was the one who had been mistaken. Perhaps success has made him overly confident. After all, he did succeed in tripling the size of his industry in the past year alone.

It was hard to understand what she had said completely as he had no knowledge of Russian at all. He could only guess it was Russian. It could as well have been German or Spanish. Those European languages all sounded the same to him.

Still Kiyoshi smiled back at her, even when her grin seemed more like a threat than a friendly action. It would be nice to have friends. Even if they may be mad. Taking another sip of his tea, he began to feel sleepy. The air in the room was too warm and like a blanket, it wrapped around him. The other members of the room seemed to tired also. Only the blonde man sitting in the red chair seemed awake. As he pondered over this, his gaze drifted over to the tea cup resting on the arm of that man's chair. "The tea is drugged," he murmured, inaudibly as his eyelids began to feel ever so heavy...

The General gave the blonde guy a sharp tap on the back of his neck. The man was apparently named Max. Owen had heard him talking to the girl besides him before. Max fell back in his chair, unconscious. They all were asleep. The tea was drugged. Perhaps Max didn't drink the tea because of his suspicions. But then again, it seems just as likely that perhaps he didn't like tea very much in the first place.

Lifting each body up easily, he moved them one by one to the adjacent room. For some reason, people always felt lighter when they were asleep. In the end, they were all lined up neatly, each on a bed. It was almost like being in a hospital, Owen thought as he remembered back to the numerous times when he had visited his own troops, colonels, captains as they lied in the same white sterile beds. "Sweet dreams," General Owen whispered as he watched a couple scientists connect their minds into the machine. "Harper, they're all yours now."

:// So I know I don't have a profile for this character yet. *sorry* >.<
I felt like I needed to add an explanation here. Owen is a general for the World Secret Service. He is called General Owen even though Owen is his first name. It started out as a joke among some colonels about how he was so not formal.
