Nitrox Dragon stray_cat05 bislas stray_cat05 bislas so they get to make up the rules??? yea that is one way to see it OwO yea i'm not going to follow some rules people make i mean if it was an actual law then i would follow it but that was created as an added bonus if pokemon didn't want it like that they wouldn't have made it umm if that is ur argument i have to disagree...i think some rulez make the game more fun (u dont have to follow all the rulez but the standar clauses are fine) Smogon University is a website/forum where people get together and play Pokemon competitively. They test many Pokemon and give their opinion on what Pokemon are more powerful through tiers. These tiers help us determine what Pokemon are seen to be too overpowered for competitive play and give an unfair advantage to the trainer using it. This tier is labeled as the Uber tier. This is used as a guideline for us so we don't have to go through as much experimentation, but we have overridden some decisions on what Smogon has decided through the general opinion of the guild. As for the clauses (Sleep Clause, Uber Clause, etc.) these are general rules that are shared throughout the entirety of the internet concerning competitive play. These are used to rid gameplay of annoying/unfair situations, such as an entire team sleeping or having to face 6 Arceus in one battle. Smogon is merely a guideline that we follow. We adjust it to our guild if necessary. um well there it is OwO

bislas stray_cat05 bislas stray_cat05 a bunch of pepole who started to play pokemon in favor of a competitive play ? OwO so they get to make up the rules??? yea that is one way to see it OwO yea i'm not going to follow some rules people make i mean if it was an actual law then i would follow it but that was created as an added bonus if pokemon didn't want it like that they wouldn't have made it Do you understand how the Standard Clause works? If you want to play standard, follow the standard rules. Otherwise just play Ubers, where nothing is banned. Also, grammar and capitalization are something you should learn if you plan to use a forum regularly.

Smogon's rules might seem a bit restrictive at times but having rulesets is extremely important. Every rule has a purpose and is there for a reason. When I first started playing I thought the sleep clause was stupid so I never turned it on while I was playing Netbattle(Gen 3 FTW). Then I fought a sunny day team that had a Jumpluff on it and before I knew it 4 of my 6 pokes were asleep. I never made that mistake again.
If you knew what the rules were you would agree that all of them have a purpose. The only thing that tends to bring up heated debate like what we have here is when a Pokemon gets sent to Ubers.
Personally I feel that if we can ban the use of Drizzle and Swift Swim in conjunction then banning Speed Boost on Blaziken isn't really that complicated when you think about it. It just sucks to see an otherwise balanced pokemon banned due to 1 characteristic.

Hehe, noobs are funny... Anyway, Smogon generally knows what they are doing, and seeing as most of the players on there have more experience, I, for one, trust their decisions. And in my opinion, the more fair the rules are, the more people will play. I mean, who wants to play with their entire team asleep? Or lose to a single poke abusing the use of Double Team? Some rules make more sense than others, but they always have a reason for what they do. Or at least, as far as I know, they have.
Best commentary ever.... It's battles like these that prove how much we need rules...

bislas you can disagree but if you are smart enough to figure it out then i figure you should use it It doesn't take a genius to EV train 6 Arceus/Mews/Whatever and run amok over everything. Seriously though, Clauses and Tiers are established so that more than just the same 2 or 3 Pokemon are used in EVERY battle. Without them, it comes down to who has the best Pokemon and less about who has the best strategy, which is just silly. If that's how you like to play, then I'm sure there is a battling crowd out there for you (most likely Random Battles on B/W or PBR), but here at the PGG, we use Standard Clauses.

Perhaps you should learn how to play pokemon before you try to dictate the rules.

EV's stand for Epic Vail, as in making our opponent Epic Fail. Which is exactly what we'd do in a battle against you. rofl
