Interesting Conversationalist
|
Posted: Sat Apr 09, 2011 10:34 pm
Zeta Eight seemed to not hear most of the other introductions, maintaining a rigid posture that somehow did not seem to bother in the least, despite the fact that her spine looked painfully straight. In fact, she was listening, rather attentively in fact, mentally sorting through the information they revealed about themselves in the hopes of finding the traitor, albeit with severely disappointing results. So far, none of them had proved more or less likely than any of the others, and what was worse, the term 'traitor' had such a vague connotation, she felt at a loss at where to begin. This made her feel rather frustrated, which was problem in itself -- she did not like the emotions that had begun resurfacing more and more frequently, no matter how muted.
Her attention had started to drift as time went on, focused more and more on squashing her own frustration, so much so that she barely noticed when 'Harry' had begun to speak, her attention flickering only at the word 'destroy.' Flicking her gaze towards him, she stared for a few long moments, her mind completely glazing over Alpha Nine's introduction, (she knew who she was,) as if willing Gamma Three to repeat herself. There had been something there, something she had missed, and she felt that white-hot searing under her flesh again, agitation mounting. But it seemed she didn't need her to repeat herself. At Eta Four's response, Zeta Eight's gaze immediately went to the other girl, her attentiveness almost rivaling this 'Hermione Granger' that the Eta was claiming to be, waiting until her words died off, and others started to speak before planting her hands firmly on the table, leaning forward just slightly.
"What is a voldemort. How did you obtain this information."
At first, her voice was as normal -- clinical to the point of sounding almost sarcastic. Of which it clearly was not. Although it certainly didn't sound like a question. As if not satisfied with how Eta Four's response was not instantaneous, she suddenly leaped from where she had been sitting, her chair going flying behind her, crashing onto it's side.
"Answer, or I will be forced to neutralize you."
It seemed she was quite serious. Whether 'Zeta Eight' had read Harry Potter before this, she certainly did not remember it now.
Oblivious to whatever stares she might have been obtaining, the female Zeta continued to stare down 'Hermione,' her frustration suddenly shifting to bewildered uncertainty. She seemed utterly confused at Zeta Eleven's introduction, and even more so as Eta Four 'consoled' Alpha Seven, her mask finally tilting beside her where Alpha Two was whispering something.
Insane?
"They are mad?"
She, however, chose not to whisper.
Shifting her gaze back to 'Harry,' 'Hermione,' and 'Cho,' Zeta Eight blinked slowly behind her gas mask, her posture relaxing visibly. She didn't sit back down, but she seemed pacified for now.
We're all mad here.

For a long time Thirteen sat quietly listening to the other people around the table speak, behind his mask his face was narrow in thought trying to sort out all this 'harry potter' thing going on. Suddenly it all clicked.
Very slowly he started to stand behind his seat. His voice low but serious.
"Snape. Killed. Dumbledore."
He frowned behind his mask. Why that fact just popped into his head he wasn't quite sure. Maybe he read it in a book somewhere....

Nio Love Still laughing, A7 took a deep breath to try and calm down - though A2 had him close to starting up all over again. He leaned back in his chair, dangerously perched on the back legs, and dropped his large arm around A2's shoulders as he leaned in. "You think? I know. They're loons - and for as much tragedy as we've been forced to deal with on this trip, I for one am going to enjoy the hell out of them for as long as I can. Just like the Doctor there- OI. BACK OFF A10 A LITTLE, YOU AIN'T EXAMININ' HER." He didn't mean to yell while so close to A2, it was a mistake. Honest. The "Doctor" in question had been leaning in closer to A-10, he quickly sat back, and responded, a bit indignantly, "Oh well, I like that." He huffed for a moment. Really, if these suits had the appropriate flap for it, the man would have been pissing on every tree and attractive leg he walked past. "Now see here, chum, I was just about to reassure the young miss that she was just as pretty as the former fellow formerly known as Zeta 11. Which she is." Turning back to the girl, he patted her arm encouragingly, "Why I bet Cho Chang wouldn't have a spot on you, really! Bet you'd be like that french lass. You know the one that's part vee-something?"

"All right, that will be enough-" the figure cut off whatever the next person had to say with a clap of their hands. "Let's not get too ahead of ourselves here. So here we are, a group of exactly twenty-three unique, special players, oh and me, your friendly host for tonight."
They continued circling the table as they talked, pacing evenly around each player, gazing at them each for a brief second. "I see some of you know a little more than others, and some not at all. But before we get too carried away here, I remind you again, I speak only the truth. I am here to make a decision based on reason and logic, and not on whatever irrational impulses you so may decide on your own. If anyone has any objections, I am more than happy to personally escort them out of this room to a more permanent residence."
"My first truth is that there is indeed one traitor among you twenty-three people gathered today. They did something unspeakable, broke a rule perhaps they did not even realize they broke, and still sit here, on this table, as if nothing happened. But this wouldn't be a game now, if I revealed the traitor to you, now would it? No, I want you to instead, look around the table, at the other twenty-two pairs of eyes, and come to a conclusion yourself. Who is the traitor?"
"Yes, think of what people spoke of. I believe Epsilon Thirteen talked about surviving some sort of ordeal where everyone died. Then why were they the only survivor, how odd. Gamma Three and Alpha Nine, what little game are you playing at, with only thirteen slots in the game, and seven already fulfilled, do you think your entire group really has a chance? How will you lie to the others in order to ensure your own selfish survival? In fact, what are all of you hiding not of course, just literally under your masks, but on what you've seen? One of you knows what I'm talking about. One of you is guilty but won't admit it, won't admit that you're hiding something. One of you will die, right on this table, your body hung for everyone to see for your crime."
Tak tak tak. More footsteps as they continued circling, their voice steady, accusing. "Of course, I am fair, and I agree for the most part that you are all reasonable ladies and gentlemen with reasonable logical thinking resources. Ask around, look around, inquire, and then come to a conclusion. When you feel like you have asked enough, simply write the guilty's name on the piece of paper and put it into the box. There is no need to show anyone your answer, simply fold the paper in two and put the name in the box. You have two hours to make a decision, or I will personally guarantee that this room is the last thing all of you see. And I never lie."

Reasoning with Muggles could be difficult, but as the child of two of them, Hermione elected herself the best person to reason with them -- though, really, she assumed she was the best to reason anything. With anyone. Ever. About anything. Even stuff she didn't know about. Seriously. Everything.
When Zeta Eight hopped to action and threw her chair aside, Hermione merely stiffened and then sighed. How could she blame the girl? "I was like you once," she said, shaking her head. "I woke up here -- lost, tired, without a single memory to call my own. It was terrifying. I had no idea what I was supposed to be fighting for. There were no loved ones I could think to live for, no job or purpose for which I knew I cared. What kind of life is that? It's no life at all." This was not a lie, or a delusion. Eta IV had been in the throes of an existential crisis before Gamma Three opened her eyes.
But Hermione totally sounded like a know-it-all douche.
"And then I discovered that I was a powerful witch who had a memory-erasing spell cast on me," she said, waving a hand. "But--" And then the professor was speaking again, and Hermione promptly shut her trap.
When the professor began talking again, Hermione flipped over her card and began to scrawl notes feverishly. Right, so she just needed to figure out who was the guilty party. It certainly wasn't her. She had nothing to hide!
Tapping her pen against the desk, Eta Hermione remained silent, quietly suspecting every single person who was not herself, Gamma Three, Alpha Seven, or fine -- Zeta Eleven. She had no intention of being the first to say so, however. She wanted to see who pointed the fingers first!

((Z4 inquiring about E13))
Z4 had had some time keeping up with the conversations around the table... something about... a Harry Potter? If he had heard of such a thing before he wasn't entirely sure, but suddenly choruses of "Can't wait to get back to hogwarts" had become stuck in his head. As the cloaked figure began to go over the rules to their party game, he tried to stifle his nervous humming by checking his Cell-phone for new messages. Hurm. Nothing terribly useful but- OH! Yes, someone had said something about that, hadn't they?
Turning brightly to E13, his eyes lit up behind his mask, looking positively intrigued, "Really? TWO pendants? How on Earth did you manage that! That's marvelous! We couldn't even manage to locate one! Well we LOCATED it, but RETRIEVING it was trickier..." He tapped the bottom of his gas mask thoughtfully.
Oh, he loved games. This would be a thinker!

(( E-13 was Neutral )), he didn't know anything about any of these guys except that Team Phoenix was definitely not a greek letter, and Harry Potter was a wizard (but maybe that explained all the teleporting and talking horses).
E-13 glowered at Z-4, then took out his own cell phone to double-check. Yep. Same message. ...And a new message, saying that he'd better get a hold of some pendants.
Ha ha. What did they want him to do, build a pile of them to roll on.
"I told you," he growled. "I didn't even want the stupid things. I got stabbed with ninja stars and my arm near burned off and a boot to my sensitives. And I was lucky. That room had pillars of fire and piranhas and s**t. I don't know if Death over there needs a red herring to make this more detectivey or whatever, but after that text they sent out they didn't need a courtroom drama to make sure the entire island was riding my a**."

(( A5 inquiring about E13 ))
Fiver also remembered that particular message on his cell phone, and hearing Mouse's question - smart boy, even if he had hooked up with that silly Phoenix crap - Fiver nodded. "If you didn't want them, then why take them? Or why KEEP them?" He asked, after listening to the other's answer.
He tilted head a little, not sure if he believed the whole story about how everyone died. Oh sure, they had DIED, but the how of it ... maybe E13 had had more to do with it than he claimed, and so he'd been able to grab two pendants instead of one. I mean. Come on. If there had been two as ... prizes or whatever ... it made sense there SHOULD have been two winners. Survivors. Something like that.
After the question was out there, he turned toward Mouse and answered his earlier question. "Not too long after I uhm. Died, I guess. Not sure exactly. I just woke up in the tent and went outside and met these guys." He glanced down toward Three and Fiver II with an unseen smile on his face.

((Everyone))
Glancing around the room Theta thirteen frowned very deeply again, the reaper told the truth, any of them could lie, and a lot of them would be gunning to probably kill each other. Eventually he let out a long sigh.
Inquiring everyone at the table he spoke, "Have any of you actually killed any one yet? I've fought two people, but I didn't kill them, what about the rest of you?"

E-5 is inquiring about E-13
His head was spinning, here he was thinking that their rag tag team of pink were odd but he was horribly mistaken. He couldn't even keep up with the entire conversation that the so called Phoenix team were having.
Looking back at E-13 and hearing Z4's question he knew only part of the answer, "E-13 you have E-4 pendant as well? I am only guessing you managed to loot or steal it from her before or after she died otherwise you wouldn't have two? And here I was peeved that you guys left me behind after bandaging you up. Though I have to admit you look worse for wear at the moment E-13 which is really making it hard for me not to feel so pissed off at ditching me." He gave just a bit of a chuckle however he was unsure why he even did. E-5 had really hoped that it was just E-13 stealing the pendant but by the sounds of it it was the death of their teammates resulting in his luck of two.

"Oh that's just awful!" Z4 unfortunately, was dead serious in his wave of sympathy, reaching across the table to pat one of E13's hands. "I er... had a little... moment..." He touched the temple of his mask, looking a bit embarrassed, "Involving a little girl..." which was followed by a quick glance to A10, "But I wasn't the one to kill her and it was all a huge mis.. under... M... Mister FIVER! You ARE alive!" Somehow through all of the journeying and mingling he hadn't quite noticed his friend-of-five-minutes-back-from-the-grave to fully register what he was seeing until that moment.

(( Eta IV inquiring about Epilson XIII ))
Eta Hermione IV shot Gamma Harry III a fierce look. "He has the locket," she said quietly, eyes fixing fiercely on Epilson XIII. They needed to get their hands on that if they were ever to defeat Voldemort and escape this island.
"I haven't killed anyone," she said with a nod. "Though I did fight a troll in my first year."
But she would. Eta IV would kill a person if it meant saving herself. She had known that since the moment she woke up on the island, long before she had decided to assume the identity of Hermione Granger.
None of this mattered though. She had a very important question for Epilson XIII. "If you really don't want it, then why don't you give one to me?" One hand extended toward him. "I could certainly handle the burden, if you feel so afflicted by it." Hermione tilted her head to one side and waited.

[Neutral for now]
A7 patted A2's shoulder, uttering a quiet 'Sorry 'bout that sweetheart', before shrugging at her question-exclamation. "Nah, he was. He's lost his mind on the way, just like these two-"
A7 was cut short when the figure decided to talk. He listened carefully - but the words went in one ear, and out another. Certain key words seemed to catch and stick in his mind, and he mulled them over thoroughly. There's a traitor in here, that much he knew. What, exactly, did it mean to be a 'traitor' in a room full of people who potentially want to kill you? Would it be the opposite of that? Was it someone who didn't WANT to kill people?
... His head hurt thinking about it.
Regardless, there was one guy who had two pendants. How, exactly, does someone get two of those things? More importantly, why was he still alive?
In true brutish style, A7 just wanted to accuse the people he didn't like. The traitor would die, so why not get people who suck out of the way now, with no regrets? He almost considered A4 for a moment, but it was difficult to decide whether he still liked the Doctor for his ridiculous conversations, or hated him for the attention A10 gave him. As it stood, the pros and cons of the Doctor remained neutral.
Z11 fired the killing shot on A10. Surely he wanted that weirdo to die, didn't he? Glaring at the man who claimed to be a woman, he faltered for a moment, hesitating before laying the smack down. Things just didn't seem as black and white as he'd previously thought.
Several people began to converge on E13. That was exactly why A7 was glad he didn't have a pendant, and he snorted in laughter. Where was that sandstone when he needed it, to paint that big red target on E13's back? Hell, even A7 considered naming him the traitor - call it team instinct. Crowd mentality. If everyone thinks you're the bad guy, you become the bad guy. That's just how life rolls.
For now, if only because it meant A7 didn't have to think too hard, he considered himself neutral. And surprisingly quiet about everything.

(( E-13 is Neutral. ))
"Yeah, the other pendant is E-4's." He confirmed. "When she died the pendant did some kind of weird blue magic floaty thing to the end of the room where the other pendant was."
He just looked depressed at E-5 saying he looked worse for the wear, and Eta IV demanding the pendant.
"You and everyone else, lady. Doesn't matter now, does it? I didn't want the pendants same reason as everyone else, it's painting a target on my back. But even if I make a big show of giving them up, everyone outside this room will still think I have two. I got a target no matter what I do. So why should I have the target and no pendants? I'll give the other one to someone else, sure. Why should it be you?"

[E-5 is Neutral.]
There was no reason to doubt E-13's story, he already knew E-4 had the pendant to begin with and well with everything else on the island it just merely floating to the end with the other one wasn't much a surprise to him.
"Hey if I had my bandages I would fix you up Puddles," he replied with a snort seeing no reason to question him further as for the pendants no reason to demand them, well not yet. It seemed rather useless without weapons or a way to escape to steal or kill E-13 for them, not that he was sure if he could.
Turning his attention to Theta-13 he felt no need to hide what had happened in the battle of the doom like ponies, "I didn't kill anyone however I did aid in killing at least two to three members of the Beta squad when the pony attacked is, however," he paused remember the face of B-7 showing back up on the field, "they didn't seem to stay dead like E-3 when they killed her. Beta 7 reappeared why is a rather baffling notion to me."
