Dogby was content to let Yvette work undisturbed for a little while, if only because she loved sleeping in laps and Tony was so often getting up from his desk while at work that she never had the chance until they were home. She would much rather spend her time cuddled with a person than alone on the floor, or in the little bed Tony had bought her.
She had more than one, in fact, as he put one by his desk and one in the back room, as well as one at home.
She looked up whenever she felt her ears being scratched, and she would have purred if she knew how. She wiggled her tail instead, whining happily. When she was picked up she whined again, but was awake and wiggling in a sleepy way. She licked at the air between her and Yvette's face, not used to being held on her back but not complaining about it beyond her little feet moving in the open air.
Tony came up to the desk when he heard the bell, smiling the moment he saw Dogby being held like a little baby. He was sure she loved that. All the attention at the library must be spoiling her rotten, but she remained as sweet as ever he knew her, so he couldn't bear the idea of leaving her alone at home. Or with Nate. Even worse.
"All done, then?" he asked, imagining the return of the dog to the counter signified that she had done what she needed.

Her head bobbled up and down. "Yes! I got all the notes I need to discuss with Azzo later!" She then looked down to the mildly wriggling pup in her arms. Then back to Mr. Darrow in an almost guilty manner.
Was there a way she could still possibly sneak off with the dog?
Probably not.
Plus, considering it now silently, she had to go to work that afternoon, and she probably wouldn't be able to go home, play with Dogby some more, return to the library, and then go to work with dog hair on her clothes. Her mouth twisted into a few random shapes, but eventually she leaned forward and set the corgi back down on the ground, feet to the ground. "I guess it is time to say 'bye bye' for now..." She looked back up to Mr. Darrow too, silently, but as if saying You as well. Her pesky fingers went to pet the pup a few more times behind the ears before she stood up again back to her full height.
"I'll probably see you again next week, Mr. Darrow. Um... will Dogby be here too?"

Tony watched as the girl held on to Dogby, wondering what was going through her head, causing her to make those faces. He got the impression that she didn't want to put the little corgi down, or might opt not to. But no, not Yvette, she wouldn't even think about stealing a dog, right?
Right.
He smiled warmly and nodded his head. He was glad they were making progress with the puppet show. It sounded like a lot of fun, for them and the kids who would watch, and he liked seeing them occupied in by things they seemed to like.
Dogby looked up at Yvette once she was on the ground again. She pouted in her little puppy way, letting out a whine and nudging Yvette's leg. She liked the extra pats she received, but that feeling in the air was all too familiar now. And always depressing. Her friend was going to leave. Sometimes they didn't come back! And that never sat will with Dogby.
Tony laughed. Clearly Dogby had made another friend, and Yvette was more interested in visiting her next week than the librarian himself. He wasn't fussed by it, though, offering her a smile and a nod.
"We'll both be here, same as always. Have a good rest of your day."
