Shani nodded in acknowledgement of the praise. "You ain't so bad yourself," she said, half wondering if Static was the type to freak out over grammar. Maybe?
She lazily ate her own rabbit. The space was noted and appreciated, though truthfully her kind were a bit more social-minded than normal Modi's seemed to be. Or maybe that was unfair, since she didn't know much about normal foxes. Either was she was comfortable around others, as long as they asked before touching her own kills.
Despite the slow and languid movements she polished off her rabbit quite quickly. "You good," she asked, tilting her head in her curious tilt. A meal like that could hold Shani for the rest of the day, as long as she didn't do any major running. Were normal foxes the same? She wasn't sure how many differences there were between their kind, though certainly evidence showed more similarities thus far.

Static went to correct Shani, then decided it was insignificant " Ar-. Never mind." He said. "Yes, I am 'good'. My hunger is sated. I wont require any more for the rest of the day, so long as I do not have to do any laborious tasks"
" So, I suppose we had best be getting back to finding spring." Static considered the meadow. " There is plenty of new grass growing here...the meadow is full of animals, sorry, was full of animals.I think we may have found spring...unless you think different. " He gave the vixen a sidelong glance. A part of Static wanted Shani to think they should continue. He found he enjoyed her company. But, he didn't want it to interfere with what he had promised her.

Shani chuckled. "Well this could be considered a part of Spring, but I already knew about it," she said. It probably didn't make a whole lot of sense outside her head, but Shani just knew this wasn't exactly what she was looking for.
She gave it a shot though. "It won't just be a spot, it'll be a moment. Like when we find it we'll know Spring is here. That's why I'm looking for good Spring spots, to find that moment."
Shani tilted her head and examined Static. "Does that make any sense?"

"Ah." Static mulled it over. He didn't quiite understand. She already knew about this place? Then why go here to look for spring. It took a while before he fianlly got it. " I see...So just to clarify you are looking for a place and time where the first signs of spring would appear. But that time is in the future, so we would have to wait, and search..."Static didn't mind that idea. Ironic how when this task began, he just wanted to part ways as soon as possible. Now, it seemed like he was enjoying himself. He tried to look enthusiastic, but it didn't quite make it. Static wasn't used to being the peppy, smiling type.
"So, Shani, where do you think we should look next? "

Shani's head remained tilted to the side. Somehow she thought Static wasn't quite getting it, but that was fine. It took a fox a lot more warped in their thinking process than the fact-loving male to really get Shani's spastic mind.
"Well there's that old saying of watch and wait. My parents said that all the time when we were fishing or storm watching or anything that involved a right moment. So maybe instead of thinking of this as looking for a specific place, we should just wander. Take note of places we do find, wander more in those areas, and just....wait."
While she'd been talking her head had returned to it's normal position. Now it tilted again, and her gold eyes were a mix of curiousity and unreadable emotion. "It might take awhile. Like more than a whole day. You don't have to commit to the search if you've got other things you'd rather do."
Was she testing him? Maybe. But this whole adventure thus far, it seemed to Shani, could have a very interesting end or a very anticlimatic one. It was better to get a clue of how it would go now than draw everything out.

What? She was releasing him of his promise? Even more confusing, was he going to accept? He had started out wanting get this over and done with, but now...what? Was he going to leave or stay? He dropped his head, thinking hard.
If he left, he would be able to keep up his search for a new home, not have to be constantly confused and baffled by Shani. But Shani would be on her own, what if something happened to her? Speaking of, why did he even care? He tried hard to keep his feelings from clouding his logic, but he couldn't get a grip on it. Static seached Shani's face for how she felt on the matter. No help, her face was a mask. What would happen if he continued...?
He realised he had been silent a long time. Then, hoping he was making the right choice he said " I-I will stay. I enjoy your company " There, wasn't so hard was it? His chest gave a squeeze. What if Shani didn't want him around? He wouldn't like it, but, he would respect her decision, he decided. " If it's alright with you, that is." he added with a weak smile.

Shani continued to give Static a long, analyzing look. It was quite intense and certainly not a look one expected from highly energetic vixens who went about on silly missions such as finding springtime. If she was aware just how much she contradicted herself sometimes, she didn't say anything about it. Joy in life was the discovery of new things and coming to understand them under your own steam. She didn't think one could really learn if the answers were just handed to them, you had to find them on your own for them to become real.
In short, she wasn't just going to tell others about herself and her quirks. You had to stick around and figure out the mystery of Shani all on your own.
Finally though, after the stare, Shani's curly tail started wagging. "Well it's totally alright with me," she said, flashing Static one of her wide and energetic grins. "You could benefit from a little wild and pointless frippery! And it doesn't hurt for me to have someone about to rein me in if I start turning into a looney chasing down faeries," she said, chuckling. Of course Shani didn't think she'd ever turn into a mythchaser, it was just sometimes excitement could lift one up and carry them away from the land of common sense.

" I doubt there is any chance I could benefit," Static replied "Though it has recently become clear to me that there are things I do not know." Static tried to forget how uneasy he had felt while Shani was staring at him. He had thought she would turn him down, that she didn't want to continue with him, wanted to be by herself. Then she sudennly went back to her energetic self, as if snapped out of a trance. It was puzzling, but he had begun to think that the unknown could be...well, not fun, but something like that.
" I do not think the Sleagh Maith would appreciate you hunting them even if they existed, anyways. From the myths some can be quite violent." A tiny smile flickered for an instant as he imagined Shani fighting them.
His whole life, Static had never been flippant. He was serious, intelligent, blunt, but never had he been erratic or hyper. Even as a kit, he had never partaken in wild games that were of no help for improving oneself. Heck, he had never really had fun. Sure he had pleasure in finding out new things, but not the kind of reckless, wild fun. Always somber, always having a firm grip...But what would it be like if he let go? "I have never been wild of reckless" He murmured, so softly he wouldn't be surprised if Shani didn't hear.
" Teach me."

If Shani did hear Static, she didn't give any comment.
Instead she just grinned broadly, and chuckled. "Never heard of that name before. But I've been told there are hundreds of species that fall under the label of faery, and not all of them are mean. Most, but not all."
That was going out of her line of expertise though. However much Shani loved spontaneous fun, she wasn't into mystical stuff. If one actually stopped and really looked at all that she got into, they'd find the intended, and often achieved, result ended in some kind of valid discovery of information that was pertinent and useful. She just happened to take a really odd, twisting road to get there.
"But hey, we've been working all this time! I know I could use a drink. How 'bout yourself?"

Static pretended his previous comment had never been spoken. It was stupid, now that he thought about it " I do not immediately require water, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt. Besides, I can smell that some sort of water is nearby."
Foxes, or any other animal, could not smell water specifically. It was stupid to think so, given that water has no smell. Well, stupid in Static's mind. So, instead of smelling something that has no smell, he found the smell of mud, and aquatic plants. He walked off in the direction of the smell, knowing If Shani really wanted a drink, she would follow.
It wasn't long before the forest revealed a river. It wasn't very wide, Static could jump over it without a lot of effort. Tall dead clusters of plants were swaying in the breeze, the tallest right beside the banks. The grass was brown and bristly. Several rocks poked thier heads out from the current, smoothed over and in varing shades of grey. Trees bent over the river, as if trying to protect it. Decomposing leaves littered the ground, and if you looked hard enough, dots of green. Sprouts, poking thier heads up thorugh the earth.
" It's not the pretttiest sight, but at least the water is running." Static said " That way the water should be healthy to drink" He dipped his paw in, curious. He shivered. The water was absolutely freezing!

Shani chuckled. "Trust me, better to drink now even when you don't think you require it yet, than to discover you're serious thirsty later!"
She followed Static when he took off, letting him take the lead. Not something that came to her naturally, since she was a dominant, but it was no fun to always be the leader.
After while she picked up on the scent Static must be following. She could smell the water, fresh and clean. She would always argue that she could smell water itself, since water from different areas smelt different to her nose. Maybe it was the surroundings, but she didn't think that was all of it.
She chuckled again. "Depends on what you call beauty," she said. "I think running water is always lovely."

"yes...well...be careful, the water is quite cold" Static replied, then wondered why he should care. Cold water was hardly dangerous in this situation.
He bent down and lapped at the water. It made his internals feel cold, but Shani's previous comment was right, it was better for him to drink now.
Static had the fleeting urge to splash his companion. He quickly disregarded it, but then thought otherwise. Hadn't a moment ago he been wanting to learn about having fun? He pondered it some more. But the moment was lost, soured by Static's over-calculating nature.
"How strange.." he mused to himself, not quite realising he had given voice to his thoughts
(( can't imagine Static in a water fight ))

((Gonna make it stranger XD Hopefully Static is honest!))
"What's strange," Shani asked, looking up from her own crouched position at the edge of the water. She was quite used to murmering aloud, since it actually helped the thought process most of the time. There was also the benefit that someone would hear, ask what was up, and be able to help your thoughts along.

Static was a little taken aback when he realised he had been talking to himself, but it wasn't the first time it had happened.
" I guess I had the idea to...splash you"He smirked, the whole idea was ridiculous. But there it was again. That feeling. To do something cheeky and mischievious. Only this time, he didn't hesitate, didn't think it over and over again like he did before.
He splashed a little water on Shani. Acutually, it was more of a flick, the water didn't even touch her. The minuite he did it, he was sorry. What had he done?! He was mortified with himself. Shani must think he was an idiot. He was an idiot. Never, ever again.

Shani let out a peal of laughter. Not so much at the impulsive splash of water Static had tried to hit her with, but the horrified and guilty look that crossed his face a moment later.
Grinning like a maniac, she put her own paw in the water and used her squatted position to give the splash a bit more power and accuracy that Static's splash had. The poor male was going to have to work at his chest fur to get it dried in any decent amount of time.
