@Rocket: Alright, no problem.
I actually didn't use a Ground type there... I had caught a Sandile, but I was using Boldore already... Oddly enough, my Blitzle/Zebstrika was the headliner of that fight, due to its Motor Drive ability.
Made pretty good progress today... Chargestone Cave is pretty cool... though Ferroseed is a real pain if you don't have Fire-type attacks on hand. confused

I actually got my copy last night, played for about 8 hours, and I'm already working up to my fourth badge! =D
I love some of the things they've done with the interface. Also - making TMs multi-use? GENIUS!
All in all, super enjoyable, and the story is engaging too! ^^ N is way creepier than I imagined he would be O___O Every time he talks I'm just like "WHY ARE YOU SO CREEPY??? I CAN'T TELL IF YOU'RE EVIL OR JUST HAVE A WARPED PERCEPTION OF REALITY"
Re the decisions thing: Yeah, it just surprised me how little I understood some of the game mechanics and the strengths and weaknesses of some of the pokemon and all when I was like 12/13. I made a few party shuffles before I broke into B&W, including training a pikachu up from scratch, and now I'm feeling a lot more respectable in LeafGreen XD
Oh, and in the end I got Snivy rather than Oshawott, because I wanted Panpour ^^
And TRG: I totally did that with the second gym leader... got a pair of fighting pokemon specially for the battle and in the end they didnt even do anything, lmfao

Wow, you're moving at an impressive clip. biggrin
I wholeheartedly agree on the infinite TM change; talk about useful. And the new thing with having Nurse/Doctor trainers during some of the messier areas that will heal your team ON COMMAND after you beat them in battle? Oh yeah, definite win.
I just reached the city with the 7th badge (still have to face the gym), and Dragonspiral Tower just north of it... I have a feeling that my lineup is about to be shaken up a bit. mrgreen

I actually beat the first two gyms in something ridiculous, like 3/3.5ish hours! But THEN there was that damn Pinwheel Forest...! I HATED IT IN THERE!! I was at such a disadvantage and had to keep running back to the healer between every battle D= That really slowed things up! And then it took me forever to explore the GIGANTIC (Castelia?) city, too...
I'm actually really good at efficient/power leveling - I'd say that's probably my strongest point in the game, which is why I was so quick at the start when I had one or two I could concentrate on. Now that I have six pokemon to juggle things have slowed down, as I like to keep things even rather than have one or two much stronger than the others, and the game kind of prevents you from advancing too fast for your stage anyway. ^^ It comes into play more around endgame, if I ever need to advance a low-level to a high-level fast for a team change, like with my Pikachu in LeafGreen just now.
So later on if anyone wants me to level something for them, I'd be happy to help =]
(That same, uh, speediness is also a weakness... in trainer battles sometimes I act automatically or don't think, and make silly mistakes, for example switching out to a status-disadvantaged pokemon or choosing a disadvantaged move >3>; Then I'm like "Wait... s**t!" a second after I realise what I've done XDD)
The in-the-field healers ARE awesome! They really help things along!
You know what else I love? The musicals =w= ooomgggg I just love it <<33 the music, the dancing, the cute costumes... love love love ;w;
Working on my fifth badge now! ^^ The only thing I've really had a problem with so far is obtaining the mystery gift o___o The in-game C-Gear displays me with middling to high signal always... but when I try and get the Gift from the main screen there are NO bars on the signal and it just keeps on trying to connect forever, until it finally says it cant find any... suggestions, anyone? >< Nevermind, finally got it to work! ^^ Yaaay liberty pass!!

Haha. Nice. Now that you have the pass, you can go to Victini's island by taking the boat from Castelia City (yes, you got the name right). It's the pier furthest from the Pokemon Center.
The game does something else to prevent super-leveling that I noticed (and a signpost I passed recently just confirmed). If your pokemon is significantly stronger than the one you defeat, the EXP payout is less than if you were more evenly matched. This also works in reverse, so weaker pokemon get more EXP when fighting stronger opponents than their more powerful partners. (Made switching out some of my team members for new ones a lot easier)
Good luck against Clay. His Excadrill is a beast.

!!!!!!! Wow, that's excellent! That virus doubles Effort Value gain. Take full advantage of it while you have it.
A quick word of advice: Infect a pokemon you don't normally use and then put it in your box. Otherwise, the ones in your party will "get better" and won't be able to be infected again, or infect others with the beneficial virus. If they stay in the box, they won't lose the infection.
I have a bunch of "carrier" pokemon in my Diamond and Platinum games from doing that.

OMG Clay's Excadrill IS a beast. I had two Grass types and a Water type (Servine, Petilil and Panpour, respectively) and still had to do some switching and healing. @.@ Still got the 5th badge though. ^^
I'm gonna be doing some evolving and training before my 6th gym battle. I went back to the stadiums in Nimbasa City (after getting Fly) and battled three Zebstrikas. They nearly frickin' KILLED my Pokemon. So yeah, I don't like Zebstrikas anymore. =/
Time for more of what I call Balance Training! 8D (Implemented in SoulSilver and a pain in the @$$ more than most, but totally worth it.)
Oh! I just remembered; next time you encounter N, listen to the music. Doesn't it sound like Harry Potter music? 3nodding
@Lorika: I totally get the forest and exploring the city. Took me FOREVER but I was glad once my Pokemon were trained up and I caught all three of the monkeys. =D And the musicals are so fun!! I tried out my first one today with Petilil and it was so cute! ^^
@Red: Thanks! *huggle* =3 I actually like that EXP thing. Logically, it makes sense. It takes a bit longer to level up your Pokemon, but it's worth it in the long run.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot. Triple Battles. Yeah.... Holy ****. O.x

I'm working on infecting ALL the pokemon I have!! If you guys need some I'll catch some more and infect them, too!! Also, I read in one guide that it's only the INFECTIOUS stage that goes away after a day, not the actual stat+ effects. What do you guys think? EDIT: This is confirmed by Bulbapedia as well as another source my friend found. Bulbapedia Once a Pokémon's immune system has fought off the virus, they cannot spread it further, nor can it be spread to them by other Pokémon. In Generations II and III, a dot will appear on the Pokémon's status screen to indicate that they have had the virus previously, while in Generation IV and V, it will be a small smiley face. Though the virus is gone, its positive effects will remain, most specifically the ability for that Pokémon to gain double EVs.My observation on it is that the effects of the infection are at once quite subtle and yet quite impressive. Last night I observed a "+2 +3 +2 +2 +1 +2" growth in one of my main pokemon upon leveling... I've never seen an improvement quite like that before in a one level gain, and part of it just has to be down to the Pokerus. I also spent 6/7 hours yesterday infecting everything I could get my hands upon, just because I wanted to be ready to give carriers to as many people as possible if they wanted them... but then my friend pointed out that a Pokerus carrier pokemon would probably be a very valuable trading tool. So it has a load of different benefits, really O_O

ANYWAY, non-Pokerus talk @Red and TRG: That Excadrill was like HOLY s**t when he started OHKOing all my pokemon, but I had two strong water pokemon and with some tactical switching and a bit of healing and a revive we took him down in about three hits. The battle wasnt NEARLY as bad as the damn electric gym leader >3> If I ever see one of those gloating electric flying squirrels again I'm going to have an aneurysm!!! "LOLOL VOLT SWITCH VOLT SWITCH CANT KILL ME CANT KILL ME 8D" STFUU!!!
In the end it just took a LOT of strategy and a couple of pokemon who could take hard beatings. For a lot of the battle I used a ground pokemon holding the brace that ups your defense. I found they wouldnt use volt switch as long a ground pokemon was out, so I'd attack, they'd knock its health down in two moves or so, then I'd heal, and they always went for Quick Attack when it was on low health, so the new high health didnt take much of a knock.
Who's you guys' favourite gym leader/other character? =D
And OMG, yes, Triple Battles... I tried to beat the Heartbreaker once and had to reload. DECIMATION!

OMG XDDDDD
Frickin'. Volt Switch. Need I say more?
Lorika, if you're still offering the carrier Pokemon I think I just might take you up on it. I think it would definitely benefit my party in the long-run. A few friends of mine were having PvP battles today and I almost won the first one (would have if the guy's battery hadn't died...><) and lost the second one. I've decided no more PvP for me until I beat the game and train my final party. I hate it. It really just turns into a war of contrition after like the first three turns. And I don't get why I keep losing. My Pokemon don't suck, I'm raising them correctly, and they have fairly good movesets for their levels. I've got 7 years of experience under my belt; WTF am I doing wrong?! D=
As for my favorite gym leader...well, just take a look at my signature. ^^ Although Cilan is my favorite among the three...guess why. =P
TRIPLE BATTLES. I should have saved before I challenged the Heartbreaker...I still won but my Pokemon were practically decimated. Not to mention the whole "switching out" thing threw me for a loop. That, and the fact that the Pokemon on the ends can't attack the foes farthest from them. (Dammit Dusty!)
And as a final note, Retaliate is a helluva move. ^-^ Hello, my name is Inego Montoya. You killed my father; prepare to die.

@Lorika: Unless they changed the mechanics for Gen 5, that's not how I remember it working. I've EV-Trained members of my Diamond team, and they've all been infected with the virus in the process. When the PKRS status switched to the smiley-face marker, the double-EV gain faded with it. confused Whatever the case, I'll test myself later with White to find out for certain...
I can go over the mechanics as I have learned them in another post if you like.
@Rocket: Your best bet is probably to beat the game before going PvP; that way all of your pokemon have the best moves possible. That's what I would do... if I had other people around to play against, anyway...
I don't have a favorite Gym Leader or character just yet, but Alder looks pretty cool so far...
I actually had a surprise Triple Battle on Route 7 I think it was. An Ace Trainer had the evolved forms of all three monkeys. Luckily, I had a counter for each and every one near the top of my list, so it wasn't too difficult... and my Panpour's Acrobatics attack could hit the one on the far side of the field.

Things mustve changed, then, from when you first got it, because most of my mains now have smiley faces beside them and they're still getting the bonuses. My friend's reported the same thing, too. So I think Bulbapedia has it right. ^^
@TRG Retaliate heart
EDIT: [Arranged when to meet over msn <3]
Awww Red has no friends?! We should all share friend codes ^^ I almost suggested everyone put their friend codes up in here, but I dunno if it's considered, uh, "private" information or not o_O

If you look at the first page of the Tournament thread, you will notice that we all needed to provide each other's friend codes in order to face each other. So no reason not to share them for this Gen. 3nodding
I just earned the final badge... and had a pleasant surprise as the Gym Leader... And Prof Juniper gave me a Master Ball after pointing me towards Victory Road... The epic battle draws nigh...
(not going to use it on Zekrom though... I know there's at least one Roaming Legendary to deal with... the Master is for them.)
