The pup's head tilted sideways as Ren tried to explain his actions, not because he struggled to understand, but because it seemed even the open and friendly gryphon had things he wanted to hide. Jove was no stranger to hiding his less desirable behavioural quirks, but did Ren need to hide his too? It gave the pup a strange, warm feeling in his chest, knowing Ren trusted him with that little tidbit of information. He couldn't figure it out exactly... did his cookie go down the wrong way after all?
Jove mimicked his friend's gesture, placing his finger to his lips in a child-like vow of silence. Although he didn't speak much to begin with, he would certainly avoid all mention of the unusual growly noise in the presence of other people. After Ren forced the motion, the pup gently touched Ren's ears again, and then began to pet them. If it made his friend smile, that must be a good thing.

Ren grinned as Jove copied him, nodding his head. "Yes," he said, tapping his finger against his lips. "Yes, just like that. A secret between you and me." And Gabrian, but that's beside the point. "Just between friends, right, Jove?"
It was nearing two in the morning now, and Ren lay there pleasantly beside Jove, his eyes closed as small hands smoothed over his ears gently. The purr grew louder, then quieter, more subtle. One ear pressed back against his hair, and Ren felt a pleased flush cross his cheeks. The petting was making him sleepy again, as was the lateness, and Ren moved his head out from under Jove's hand.
"Come on, little one," he said, tilting his head and smiling at the other. Ren flopped onto his back, tugging Jove down beside him and pulled the covers up, slipping an arm around the wisp's shoulders. "Time for sleep. And hopefully time for no more nightmares."
Ren had the feeling, however, that at least for tonight he wouldn't have any more bad dreams. At least, he hoped he wouldn't, not with the adorable little puppy curled up next to him. Just Jove's presence made it easier to tolerate the night, and Ren poked his head gently.
"Sleep?" he asked, yawning widely.

Jove made a little contented noise in his throat, a murmur somewhat like a tone-less hum. He would keep Ren's secret. And in the meantime, he would also enjoy the ear petting. Ren's hair was long, and his ears were soft, and the secret noise pleased the little puppy to no end. Half the time he wasn't even being embarrassed out in public, and that was a point in his favour regardless of the circumstances.
He was pliable and docile as Ren flopped over with him, and wiggled slightly until he was once again comfortable and able to watch his friend's face. When the gryphon yawned, Jove's ears perked and he pushed himself up just enough to peer into Ren's mouth curiously. He had sharp canine teeth, like Jove's own.
Oh, yes. Sleep. No more mimics, no more fear, just warmth and softness, and the smell of cookies and his friend. Jove sighed deeply and curled up in a loose ball, his head pressed contentedly against Ren's side, his tail wagging gently against Ren's leg. Yes, he could sleep like this.
