Alessa was relieved to see they were going to be doing some actual cooking. It wasn't that cooking with fear wasn't interesting, but it seemed she needed a lot of practice there. This she knew how to do. She didn't make her minipets candy, really, as they seemed more partial to actual meals (or eating whatever they found on their own). However, she was eager to get started. So despite the fact that she hadn't done so well previously, her energy was back as she quickly took the ingredients she wanted.
She started off with some honey and brown sugar. She knew that Sheelah wasn't partial to most things, but she did like a certain little treat she made for all of the lepuses in the group. She made sure to add enough water, too, and immediately put in some melted, salted butter. One mistake many beginners made was that they excluded salt from sweet things, but Alessa knew better. The salt was important! She then put in some granulated sugar, which she stirred thoroughly for a few minutes before adding in some cream of tarter along with buttermilk. The mixture was looking rather thick, but the texture was nice. Satisfied with the stirring, she added in the last few touches light corn syrup and crushed ylang ylang. She put in a few yellow and red food coloring in, which as she finished stirring turned the mixture a nice golden color.
She let it sit for a while, watching her other group members absently as she waited for the mixture to settle. Once it did, she took it out and began to mold each ball into a box shape. With careful fingers she made grooves and a rounded top and a little indent for a latch...once finished, each ball looked rather like a treasure chest. Sheelah watched her with one open eye, apparently curious about all this. Yes, that was as curious as she seemed to get.
"Here, do you want to try one?" Alessa asked, once she was sure they were done. Sheelah sniffed at the offered food, and apparently she liked the scent enough, because her nose continued to twitch and she took it into her paws. She waited a moment and the nibbled on it slowly. She tilted her head and then popped the rest of it into her mouth. After that, she hopped down upon the table, without so much as a look of gratitude, and began to eat the rest.
