Shun merely nodded to the lord of the house as wished for them to enjoy themselves at this party. He'll have some difficulty doing just that for sure. When the Emperor spoke in regards to himself, his gaze shifted over towards the man. His eye twitched slightly at the comment; he wasn't exactly noble in any definition of the word.
Being left alone with the General now, he glanced up at her and her question.
"Yes," he said plainly and in a fairly flat tone, "If the term wasn't shoved in my face constantly or if I deserved the title then perhaps it wouldn't be the case."
"Besides, it draws too much attention to myself."

Talon, amazed that there was a person numb enough from culture to not know when he wasn't wanted, was fascinated! Not as fascinated as Cuddles would be about the shiny digging utensils in the ice bucket over yonder, but pretty fascinated about this guy. Oh, he did get on his nerves, but that could be overlooked. Then a thought occurred to him. But how to put it delicately? Meh...this guy probably couldn't catch a hint even if it was written on some ladies bare... ANYWAYS
"Say...Cole, in five words or less, would mind answering a rather personal question. I can understand if you find it rude and beneath you to answer a commoner such a question, but were you ever told 'No' by your parents or nursemaids as a child? " This was when Ranee suggested they get something to eat. Oh...right. had to peruse the buffet table of delicacies that were probably all the Emperor's favorite. "Fire dancers? Food? Why! Its fantastic... though I really could do with a nice slice of pizza and a cold one with some sport on the hanging tv.... I suppose fine delicacies from all corners of the Empire will have ot do. " Moe squeaked and shook himself out, bells ringing cutely, before chirping in agreement.

"Ah but I can see it, one day you will be a great hero like the General before you," he told her, she did show promise, Amadeus chose well, however it would have been much nicer to know beforehand.
"A fine warrior indeed." Samvath agreed with the emperor, already a hero for destroying the traitor, he wouldn't be surprised if another noble family had their eye on him, if they happened to have a daughter by chance. The Noble gave a smile back toward the emperor as he left then gave a parting "I must meet with the rest of my guests now,." he said ""both of you enjoy yourself." he gave them both a smile and proceeded to follow the emperor, after all he was one of the most trusted.
Cole looked at Talon puzzled for a moment "Of course not." came his answer. He was of noble birth of course and a legitimate child therefore got everything he desired, he was coddled and spoiled, even more so than Ranee it would seem. "Oh Fire dancers! My how lovely, truly to show the ferocity and grace our glorious empire has!"
"Too fancy for your tastes?" she raised her brow, of course they where Talon wasn't even used to this. Ranee shrugged "I'm sure I can get a maid or butler to make some," it wasn't that big a deal, and besides fresh pizza was the best she had decided after eating there a few times. "I'm sure there is champagne, or wine among the drinks here." it wasn't beer but it was alcohol "Pizza? What commoner food is this?" Cole raised his brow curiously.
“Is absolutely horrible you’d hate it.” She said grabbing his Arm and making it looks like he was the escort, might as well TRY to look like a happily engaged couple while she was at home, her father would be thrilled and she would have a headache. The Moron didn’t know how to escort a lady properly either.
Ciel even had to shift shoulders, stupid human man thing. The birds tails brushed Cole in the face, he was not appreciative of Cole getting anywhere near Ranee.
“oof,” Cole got long feathers in his face, Cole was about to say something but ranee cut him off. No more soliloquies today.
Ranee was about sick of them already “Oh sorry about that,” she smiled slightly straightening his hair “Shall we head toward the refreshments?” she started leading Cole along. The moron would get easily distracted and start talking if she wasn’t the lead. She’d have a gooood vent latter.

"I see...." Her brows raised just slightly at his response. She was surprised to say the least to hear he had not been enjoying his fame. Or even counted himself a hero for what he had done.
After a moment she looked back over the crowed of nobles. Her gaze lingered for a moment on Talon, Ice and what appeared to be a pompous brat.
"The attachments that come with fame are understandably frustrating. People cling to what little hope they have left and inflate it greatly in a desperate wish to keep afloat in this world. That much I understand." Her focus returned to Blade and she continued in her normal tone. " What I cannot is how can you not see what you have done, and are doing, for the Empire as nothing less of heroism? Modesty is one thing, depriving yourself is another."

Turning more towards the General, Shun shook his head slowly.
"One 'good' deed on a heap of wrongs doesn't make a man a hero," he said, "Maybe to others taking out such an individual may make me seem as one."
Pausing for a moment or so there, he seemed to be thinking about this in general. Even without the little 'twist' that was there regarding his 'deeds', he had some trouble seeing things in this light. It almost seemed subjective to him.
"Maybe you could blame that on my years before joining the military," he said lowly.

The answer wasn't surprising. "I see. Perhaps you should learn it. It is vital for survival in the business world. " He grinned, letting his eyes wander away, over the General and Shun and other guests, to the entertainment. Fire pretty....
"As little trouble as that may be for such a staff that can produce this delightful spread, I'll have to decline the generous offer. I prefer my meals in a certain atmosphere fitting the food. I don't think it fits this...." Cole started chiming in about this food, then Ranee added that it was horrible, awful, dreadful. Talon grinned and snickered. "I don't think your delicate constitution could handle it, old boy. Its made of sawdust, flour, water, and grubs. Walks on its own... " Ah...hardtack references...But the kid probably didn't know the difference.
Keeping back from the 'happy couple', Talon observed the buffoonery and winced at the huge social faux pas in ettiquite with a lady. There would no doubts be heads turning to stare at this terrible act, but from the way the folks around were acting, this was normal. Ugh...His mother would be rolling in her grave if she had one.
"Refreshments, yes. A glass of wine would be most refreshing after today's troubles. " Moe huffed and tried to look intimidating to the annoying squishy transportation unit. Talon clasped his hands behind his back and followed after.

"Truly? How terrible is that what you eat how horrid!" Cole was aghast "Why does your Father put you such tribulations!"Cole shook his head as they reached the food table, "This here is true food, it's perfectly divine, Ranee's Family has some of the best cooks in the empire!" Cole obviously didn't care about the attention he drew to himself in the least, and the noble parties where used to it.
Ranee on the other hand smiled sweetly at Cole "Thank you for the comment but why don't you go have a word with the chef telling them how you appreciate the food prepared.
"Of course! I think I shall." He exclaimed "though I relish the thought of leaving you..."
Ranee assured him quickly it was fine and with Charlotte guiding him to the kitchen Cole left, he'd be gone for a good long time, most likely spouting limericks, soliloquies and the like about how great food was. "Wine it is," Ranee Hailed one of the servants to bring them two glass of wine. "He should be gone for a while," a light grin crept onto her face Now she could finally enjoy herself.
The servant came back shortly with two glasses and offered one to each. Ranee picked up one of the glasses, and took a sip. "So all in all what did you think of Cole?" she asked once the servant was gone.

"That would depend on the deed Private Kuroda. " Rish's eyes narrowed. "Your act is not limited by just removing the individual as everyone celebrates. Not everyone can see the deeper meaning behind your deed. I would hope that you understand it someday as well..."
A noble approached her cautiously before informing her that the Emperor wished to see her. The man mumbled quickly before turning and returning to the noble mosh.
The message earned a quiet huff from Rish before her attention returned to Shun. She firmly placed her left hand on his shoulder.
" A man's past does not define who he is today. It is a man's current action that defines who he truly is. Who you were makes no difference to me, it only shows you have valuable experience in your field. I am more interested in what you are doing now."
And with those words she gave him a single pat on the shoulder before turning back into the crowd and making her way to the Emperor, who was visibly across the room with a nice crowd around him. Luckily his cloths made him stand out like a black eye.

With a frown, Shun stared at the General as she said there regarding his deeds. He wasn't sure if he really believed it, but he wasn't going to argue against it. Quirking a brow as a noble came by to tell Pendragon that the Emperor wanted to speak to her, he looked back at her as she continued on.
He supposed it was a good thing that she didn't really care so much of his previous profession as some others may. Shaking his head to himself, he said nothing else and simply followed Rish as she made her way back towards the Emperor.
It certainly wasn't hard to spot the man, even from across the room. What could he want, he wondered.

There was this strong temptation to continue on and put the man off his food, but that would have been cruel; certainly not gentlemanly at all. Talon nodded as Cole wandered off to go talk to the chef about the food. Yeah...he didn't pity the chef at all.
That moment he caught sight of the general moving away from Shun. Huh... Then again, it looks like the wonderful woman was being summoned by the great Emperor... How delightful...
Wine came from the servants, Talon did indeed take the glass, muttering a thank you to the staff. Attention was back on Ranee, and an eyebrow was quirked. "He is to say interesting at the very least. Though, are you quite sure there is no way around the marriage? Babysitting a child for the rest of your life doesn't sound ideal... I smell a plot. But at least in the service of the General you won't be leaving any time soon~ " He chuckled and nabbed a small torte from the passing serving tray, nibbling on the delightful treat daintily...then giving Moe the rest when the incessant whining began.
"Did you know he carries $50's and $100's? And I think one of his cards is expired by three months. "

Ranee shook her head "Unfortunately if there was I still haven’t thought of it." She'd tied everything she could think of, "My Father much like the Emperor is a traddionalist." she reminded Talon, "And if I do refuse my family's standing will go down." therefore Ranee had no choice according to her father. These days in the military are her few days of freedom. And hopefully she can get this assignment to last as long as possible.
"Yeah, it's not my cup of tea, as the expression goes." she laughed lightly "that's why I was happy to get an assingment that would last a while." Prolong marriage as long as possible. The Emperor seemed ot have summoned the General this time, might be something worthwhile.
Ranee took another light sip of the wine and a nibbled on one of the fried brie. "Next time I see him I'll let him now."
Samvath stood next to the emperor chatting quite happily to the other nobles. The emperor had once again sent for the General, "Sire, might I direct you to your seat? it is about time for the performance."
The seat Samvath was talking about placed the Emperor in everyone's eye at the same time contained the best view of the performance, a few other chairs where laid up there as well for a few other select nobles.

Rish made no more attempts to push the subject said as they walked. There was no point in prying the matter further.
She walked silently and silently still when they were being lead to their seats. Another flashy show to occupy her time, perfect. At least she had other things to dwell on to hopefully distracting her from whatever nonsense was planned.
"Yes yes, I believe it is a good time." He clasped his hands as he was brought to his seat. Immediately he gestured for Rish to be at his right, Shun to be at her right and his good friend to his left. It was a customary seating arrangement. Symbolic if anything.
He took his seat first before anyone else could follow. Another custom.

Shun's mental question was soon answered as the Emperor beckoned for them to take their seats. It seemed that the performances were about to begin. Well, he supposed that would be better than having to deal with the people around here. Still, he didn't look completely enthusiastic about this. He would still rather be doing something else.
The Private waited for Rish to have her seat before sitting down besides her. This was turning out to be quite a long night.

"Tradition... Meh... Status, power, influence... " He could go on, but really, that would bore him and those eavesdropping. "Ah... What a good daughter you are. " He smiled, that being a compliment.
Moe chirped and demanded something else to nibble on. He got a grape. He was most pleased.
Noticing the crowd gather for the entertainment, Talon tilted his head in that direction, "Shall we join the crowd? It would be the proper thing to do. " Talon held out his arm to Ranee, smiling politely with his drink in the other hand. Moe was reaching out with a paw for a sip...but remembered last time he tried something like that he didn't like it. Instead, Moe sang a little chorus of chirps and hoots to the peacock.

Talon wasn't one to care too much about social standings, she'd been told when they met, with a nod "My father knows it too." she smiled back, Ranee noted how Father, the Emperor, Rish and Shun where all in the special area for important people. The entertainment should be coming soon. A circle was being cleared in the middle of the hall as things were getting set up swiftly.
"Certainly" she said taking his hand, holing her own glass of wine in her other. Ranee Glanced at Moe "I think he wants a drink." Same thing had happened earlier that same day.
Ciel almost cooed trying to sing back to Moe, that metal thing wasn't as irritating as some. Ceil liked it.
Taking his seat to the left, he stood until the Emperor had sat down first as was the customary tradition. Samvath once everything was cleared and set, he waved a servant to fetch the performers. The lights dimmed and the performers appeared.
From the stairway the acrobats leapt and bounded, doing cartwheels and flips, and following them where the fire dancers spinning flaming whips and Poi, long staves with fire burring on the end, all being whipped around in various patterns... And thus the performance began.
