L'ing lowered his head, gently dropping the branches next to the water's edge before answering. "I promised that I would return," he winked at her playfully.

"Now, these are berries. They come in many colors, but these were all I saw in the immediate area. I'll have to search for others and bring those next time. Here," He nosed one of the branches towards the water, just enough so that it floated in front of the mare. "They're very sweet and delicious. Very different than fish though, so prepare your taste buds for it!" he laughed. He could imagine the shock that a water dwelling soquili would have her first time tasting a sweet fruit.

"Tell me what you think," he stood silently and waited, hoping that his new friend would find this meal satisfactory.

He laughed at the mare's face, it was one of surprise but it wasn't a bad surprise. "I told you!" he bobbed his head as she pulled a few more from the branches. "Now that I know you'll enjoy then, I can bring different types each time I visit." He flashed her a smile. "You'll enjoy wildflowers...they aren't as sweet, but they are still delicious."

"Some smell marvelous! Others.... Others not so much." he laughed. He remembered back to the first time he ran across a corpse flower, the name fit perfectly. "I will be sure to bring you some of my favorites. Daisies, tulips, and some little white ones that I'm unsure of."

He made his way back into the water a bit, he enjoyed the weightless feeling it gave him. "The best are always available in spring, so it will be some time before I can find them for you, but I will." he nodded.

He bobbed his head and laughed gently, "I do promise, Nessie. I've given you my word. Come Spring, I will bring you countless types of flowers to try!"

He closed his eyes and swayed in the water for a moment, opening his eyes at Nessie's words. "No worries, Nessie. I do not bring gifts for things in return." he smiled, looking over at the grey colored female. "We will share plenty in the future, I'm sure."

Her words caught him slightly off guard... They had only promised to stay away? He was brought out of his thoughts by the water hitting his hide. He laughed, quickly bringing his own tail about to send water flying back the female's direction.

"That..." he paused, "I don't understand. Why would they do such?" his head tilted. "You've been magnificent company and I would hate to know I would miss a future visit with you..."

L'ing snorted at her remark, tossing his head slightly, "And who are they to judge your beauty?!" he shook his head, his mane tossing just slightly. "I find you to be quite majestic. I'd like to see others cut through the water on the hunt like you. I can bet that they won't be near as graceful." he snorted again at the thought of others casting judgment on the mare at his side.

He laughed softly at the mare's reaction. He hadn't meant to embarass her, but it was the truth! To some, she may look like a monster, but he saw in her a beautiful creature.

He patiently waited for her to resurface. The day was growing to a close and he would need to be making his way back to his home. He wanted to make sure that he could see her again, though by her reaction he didn't think that would be a problem.
