The dragon glared down at the two people, and then seemingly frowned slightly. He glanced around the cramped room, and folded his wings elegantly. Naturally, the bed he was on was crushed. He rose his right paw to look under it, and only saw torn fabric and damaged wood. ‘Oh dear . . . I didn’t mean for that to happen.’

The dragon straitened his neck, then peered down at the two people. A stick-figure of a slave and a weak-looking female? These were not the thugs that damaged, harmed, and terrified his human. Oops . . .

Umm . . . where are those that terrorized Jh – I mean, the slave? I must speak with them about their atrocious behavior. Oh, and if the person in command is nearby, may I have a word with her as well?

The dragon looked at each person in turn, his deep silvery eyes seemingly drinking on their very image.

"Dragon," Fabel answered as soon as she had found her voice. She tried to sound firm, though she was talking to a beast that could easily kill her. "You have not even introduced yourself by your proper name. Nor have you explained why or how you have intruded upon our bedroom...and our bed."

She looked down pointedly at the ruined furniture beneath the dragon, although it was not like he had much room to move elsewhere.

Nej kept obediently very still, standing motionless and firm between Mistress Fabel and the Silver dragon, despite the shaking of his hands. Perhaps to try and calm this, one hand rose to the lump in his shirt, underneath where the crude figurine necklace rested. 'Riavi?

A snort. He's not looking for you, Nej, or the lady. Just don't piss this guy off and you'll be alright.

Right, right. Nej took a deep breath, a bit shaking, and kept his head lowered, his eyes on the dragon, and his ears ready to listen.

The dragon now looked like he was experiencing a mixture of bitter humor and frustration. His head lowered to the woman, his eyes squinting slightly. The neck snaked down to her, and it passed the slave. Apparently, he either didn’t focus on him now or didn’t want to scare him, or some other thought. What mattered was that the dragon was looking into the woman’s eyes, obviously searching for something.

You demand to hear my name? You have yet to introduce yourself, opressor of humans, supporter of slavery, egotistical narcissist. The draconic figure seemed to spat these ideas at her, but continued in a more controlled tone.

You are not the one I am looking for. I am here to help seek revenge to those who harm the man I protect. I do not protect a slave, nor an underling. I protect a human being.

The dragon swiveled his head back to its previous spot, giving a slight wink to the slave as his eye passed by him. I repeat, what say you in defense?

"Other worldly creatures should not judge the human world," Fabel insisted, crossing her arms. Arguing was helping her get her ground back in a way. She didn't think she might faint any more, though those dragonic eyes had been unsettling. She also couldn't read them very well.

Fabel had no idea that dragons, when they lived amongst them, did precisely that. Judge. They ruled over humans in their first innocent stages of culture and development, much like one might "rule" over a herd of sheep by telling it where to go for water.

"You are the one who has intruded upon our land, and so I call on your honor that you may be the first to introduce yourself. If you wish help or explanations from us, you must first give us this courtesy."

It was best to leave the battle of words to the people... or dragons... that actually knew how to use them properly, Nej figured. Instead, he did what he knew best, which was getting, and staying, between the Mistress Fabel and the Silver dragon. Although, he had to admit, the dragon was seeming less and less of a threat every moment - but Mistress Fabel seemed to be pushing back at the dragon, so, really, anything could happen. At least, as far as Nej was concerned.

Only briefly, when the dragon pulled his neck back, did Nej catch the wink of the Silver, sending a flicker of confusion through him. I don't get it.

You don't need to, just don't get killed. The snide hiss from Nonriavi had an obvious overtone of humor, but still unsettled the poor slave boy slightly.

Now the dragon seemed to raise a scaly eyebrow at the woman. He snorted loudly, then peered at her. Do not speak of which you do not understand. I have come here to help those whom I protect. I am, obviously, a Dragon. I assume that my name would be too complex to even say for you. Call me ‘Rashmak’. But in the mean time –

The dragon haulted his words, then frowned. Hey . . . aren’t you Fate – no, Fable? The one who tried to help Jhovam? The dragon’s eyes softened slightly, but still seemed weary. Suddenly, his expression went blank.

‘Rashmak! Where are you! Are you breaking anything down?’ Naturally, Jhovam sounded panicked.

‘Umm . . . no? Why would I?’

He decided to ignore Jhovam’s words at the moment, and get to work on this situation. You aren’t the one I am looking for. I am looking for two men, rude, brash, violent. Have you seen them around? His entire demeanor changed when he returned from his blank expression. He seemed much more cheerful. Yes, this was indeed the helpful woman. No need to hurt her.

Fabel put her hands on her hips. "My name," she emphasized, "Is indeed Fabel. And he is Nej. Welcome." She didn't sound entirely sincere. "The two men that you ask after, surely you mean the two that were under my command, although you would never be able to find them with such a poor description as that. We have our own reasons for question your..."

You could almost hear the click in her head. "You're the thing that smashed Jhovam's room to pieces! Tell me, did Jhovam tell Isabel about you? Would you know if he did? Where is he? What have you done with him! He was in pain because of you!" Never mind the roughing up her own men had done to him before that.

Nej relaxed his stance only slightly. Obviously, the Silver was not going to bite their heads off. As Nonriavi had pointed out, he clearly wasn't there for them, but it wouldn't hurt to stay between them anyways.

The hiss of Nonriavi's voice flitted through Nej's mind. 'Rashmak', huh?

The twang of thoughtfulness in the dragon's voice prompted Nej to respond, albeit hesitantly. 'Riavi, what is it?

A great pause, I'm not sure.

Nej took a shaking breath, splitting his attention between the conversation occurring between Fabel and Rashmak and the hissed voice of Nonriavi. His eyes flicked quickly towards the Silver. He looks nothing like you.

Nonriavi clearly snorted. He's a Silver, Nej. I am a Bronze. Naturally, we are not going to be alike.

’Ygrashmak! Red lizard winged things are licking me!’

’Not now Jhovam, I am a little busy.’

Ygrashmak sighed mentally to himself. This was not going to plan. He planned on scaring the very solid waste of the mortal thugs right out of their weak forms, not some woman and slave. Ah well, they might as well be helpful. And he might as well be honest to them. For the moment, he blocked off his connection from Jhovam so his emotions would not disillusion the poor boy. The draconic figure coughed slightly, and in a more peaceful and less booming voice, he explained.

I am, in a way, tied with the 'slave' Jhovam. I protect and help him, and he does the same for me. We are connected, and we feel each other. We found out that we can switch places, and so I took the boy's place. I tried earlier, but he resisted. But I had to. It was the best way. Now that I have been honest, it is your turn. Where are the torturers of Jhovam?'

Ygrashmak watched the woman, but seemed to not want to hurt either of them. After all, this woman helped Jhovam, and that was worth noting. He was starting to feel regret for scaring the poor slave. He didn't mean to. Honest!

Oh, and if it matters, my real name is Ygrashmak. He added hastily, knowing very well that the mortals couldn't say his name on their stiff tongues.

(( I decided to change the open thought style, so you can see the dfference between private telepathic communication and open telepathic communication. ))

(sweet!)

Fabel lay a hand on Nej's shoulder, moving to stand beside him. "Those men were interpreting my orders. Are you now going to avenge this boy on me?" Fabel pushed on, feeling that what she had to say next was more important than revenge.

"Things are more complicated here than either of you understand, and here you endanger another innocent slave by your presence. You endanger yourself as well, for if any were to see you here, there would be battle. Just an hour ago one of your kind led an attack on this place."
PostPosted: Sat Mar 03, 2007 7:08 pm

Nej looked over at Fabel when she put her hand on his shoulder, and when she stepped up beside him he took a step to the side. Mistress Fabel obviously intended to speak with the Silver about matters she found important (ones that Nej didn't have the place to know or talk about). But whatever way, he stood very close by, in case situation got... messy.

Nonriavi himself, it seemed, was preoccupied with something else entirely. Huh. Ygrashmak, Ygrashmak, Ygrashmak...

Nonriavi?

Hmm. Ygrashmak. I'seems familiar... Hmm, where, where...

It was getting very hard to listen to Mistress Fabel and have the Bronze mumbling in his head like this. His really very poor hearing didn't help the matter either. ...You are absolutely no help, you know that?

Shush, Nonriavi hissed, I'm thinking.

Ygrashmak watched the woman, a pause extending longer and longer. Finally, he sighed. It was deep and loud, boasting a quality that was much more different than his mental voice: a rough, lizard-like hiss.

I am beginning to feel that humans, in general, have thrown themselves into a mess they can not comprehend, and then yell at those whom try to understand their troubles. They seek sympathy, give none, and earn nothing. Please, do not assume that outsiders can not see what you see. Do not assume that we can not perceive more or less than you. You do not know my people, and I do not know yours. Don't make assumptions.

Ygrashmak snorted, sending a small wave of hot air down onto the two people. He glared, and then brought his head down to the woman. And don't you dare try to label me based on the actions of others. I am my own creature, my own self. I did not attack, and I did not try to kill. The draconic face seemingly contorted with anger, but a sudden expression flew over his face. Due to the alien nature of his head, it was hard to decipher, but one could hazard a guess that it was comprehension.

I think I see now . . . you are letting me know that your people might hazard bias and prejudice against me, due to the actions of more violent dragons. Pleasant, really. There was a sour touch of bitterness in his mental voice, but he grunted knowingly. He seemed to speak with a deeper sense of knowing and understanding, and looked down in his own private thoughts.

Fabel felt the shakes come on when Ygrashmak breathed on them, and came close to her yet again. She wasn't sure how long she could keep up this bravado. That was a shame, too, since it seemed to be working so well.

"P-Please, just let us... hide you. Don't go... you could...you could h-elp us so." She didn't mean for her statement to be cryptic, but she felt that the matter of hiding him was paramount. The helping they could talk about later. "I can bring my m-men to apologize."

He had thought - he and truly thought - that Mistress Fabel had things under control. Now hearing her (hardly, with her stuttering - he had to almost completely block out Nonriavi's mumblings to catch what she was saying) he came to a quick decision. Once again he stepped between the Mistress and the dragon, this time spreading his arms to make sure that Mistress Fabel was safe behind him.

It took Nonriavi a fleeting moment to realize that his bonded human was doing something probably very stupid. Nej? Nej? What are you doing? Well, Nonriavi already knew, but still, he couldn't believe how bold the boy was being. I told you, don't get in his way!

Granted, he knew that Silvers weren't particularly agressive as, say, a chromatic, but any upset dragon was not a dragon to be messing with.

Nej, completely ignoring Nonriavi, tried to form words several times, starting and then stopping, before he finally managed. "M-Master D-dragon, sir." He paused, really not sure if he had properly adressed the dragon (Nonriavi was different; the Bronze was, well, Nonriavi, and they had almost alway been on a first name basis, save the brief spout of "demon! Devil! Spirit!" Nej experianced in their first encounter). "P-Please, do not bring harm to M-Mistress Fabel." And that was all he could think to say, just plead.

A slight twang of worry hit him when he realized that Mistress Fabel hadn't successfully dealt with the dragon without being reduced to stutters. Certainly his words, lowly as he was, didn't stand a chance, but he couldn't just stand by.

Mentally, Nonriavi sighed. They were going to be having a long talk sometime soon.
