What are you talking about? That sounds like an excellent use of resources. Riley was of a clear mind that the idea of winning a battle and subduing your opponent was a wonderful use of time and energy. The excuse of practicing a good cackle was just icing on the cake.
She walked back around the table, seeing as it was clear it was not going to attack, and crossed her arms as she stood in front of it. She was clearly just a touch disappointed. Perhaps the adrenaline of the night was still pumping through her. I would have let you win. She murmured. Promise.

Malodore blinked again. "You wanted me to... subdue... you? You are the furthest thing from a victim I could possibly imagine. Even with that lump on your cranium."
Clearly, communication was not quite happening.

Riley nodded slowly. But that's the point. If you truly want a reason to cackle, you'd need to subdue someone difficult. She gestured lightly to herself. If I may be bold enough to say so, anyone who could manage to subdue me would find themselves quite easily crowing in victory. She narrowed her eyes to slits, as she thought of just how the gnomes had likely cackled when they had managed to knock her out earlier. Suddenly the idea of being subdued twice in a row in one day made her feel a little ill. Still, playing the role was empowering in it's own right.

"I have absolutely no desire to injure you," Malodore said, honestly, meeting her gaze directly. "And I won't damage anyone for entertainment. There's an oath one makes, as a doctor... even if you're born into it, like me. Study and knowledge-seeking is one thing... that's a reason. Getting FEAR is a reason. But I won't harm another for no reason. Especially not you."

It was clear that Riley's upbringing had been far different from that of Malodore's. Duels and skirmishes were common to her kind, and hurting one another was always looked upon as risks of the trade. There was little to no honor in what they did, and how they did it. Malodore's stern objection to her idea filled her with a momentary longing for a different life, before it was snuffed out rather quickly by the reality of the world she had been born into.
Though for one, brief moment, Riley couldn't help but wish she had been born a plague doctor.
All right then. You'll just have to work on your maniacal laughter alone. I'm sure it will sound sufficiently bone-chilling when put to the test. Her eyes softened affectionately.

Malodore opened its beak in a smile. "I could, perhaps, cackle over my experiments? It might make Christof happy to do so. Though... not over Amrita, I don't think."

Christof would not be the only one pleased to hear such a thing, I assure you. She nodded in approval. I will admit to a certain intrigue in hearing your evil side escape. I am, if nothing else, a bit curious. She chuckled fondly, and a beat of time passed before she straightened up and soberly returned to the care of her head injury.
So, how long should I keep this on? Her hand tapped the little bundle of cloth nestled between her tentacles.

"It must be a proper cackle.... but not an insane one. I'll not be mistaken for a garden-variety mad scientist," Malodore said with obvious distaste. "Cold uncaring sanity can be far more frightening than madness, anyway."
It peered at her head again. "Keep it on until you feel the pain has subsided some; if you feel excessive cold or pain caused by the chill, remove it at once."

It was clear Malodore had thought long and hard about all the details involved in his craft - it was admirable, as usual. Riley lifted the ice pack off of her head, because she had stopped feeling anything at all - and moments later, the throbbing returned. She made a face and slid it back in it's perch between her tentacles.
I hope it doesn't last too long. This is very uncomfortable to keep up. The cold made the back of her eyes hurt - which was a strange enough feeling. She turned her head, planning to sit at the chair of one of the tables, when a wave of dizziness made her stop and stand still for a moment.
Hm. She grumbled out, as she slowly moved to sit down once she'd regained her balance. I should take it off before falling asleep, then? Because I don't know if I'm going to make it very long. It's been a tiring and troubling day.

Riley looked up at him with an amused expression. I promise. But I'll be fine. I have you taking care of me. I'm in good hands. She turned her hand around, slipping her fingers between one of those hands, since it had put it there.
I should get some rest, though. I'm not going to last much longer, I can tell..

"As you say." Malodore stood up, then looked down at their intertwined fingers with an almost bemused... if pleased... expression. Or as close as a rigid beak could get, at least.

Riley followed it's gaze, and let out a breath of a chuckle. I'll see you out. She murmured, standing with it and heading out of the kitchen. While it would have been just as easy to let go, she seemed to have found a liking to leading it places by the hand. When she reached the door, however, she reluctantly extracted herself from the hold, and opened her dorm door. She turned, and leaned against it.
I'll stop by tomorrow, if I make it through the night. She teased.

Riley rested the side of her head on the door's edge, and failed to fight back a blush as she watched it with a doting expression. I will. She murmured, and as she stayed at the door to watch and make sure it left the demon dorms without incident, she sent Malodore an affectionate nudge and whispered one last goodbye. Grazie, mia cara.
