Before the start of this little trial the djinn had moved over to the bench to claim a small stop watch from a pile of folded towels, then returned to take a seat at the edge of the pool, long, mochachinno legs dipping into the warmth of the water. Seated she could easily rest her clip board on her lap, so both hands would be free to work the watch and record the times and number of bulbs that each swimmer left the pool with.
As each applicant stepped up in turn she gave a call to signal their start, hit the button, and watched with eager eyes as they slipped though the water to do their lap. It was quite interesting to watch really, as each person had a different style and strategy to avoid the bulbs. Though there really was no sure way to avoid them. Even she and Calder picked one or two up occasionally. All in all though the hopefuls had done a pretty good job.
Slinging the watch around her neck she put her hands together in a quick round of soft applause as the Gabrian finished up his run and began prying bulbs off himself.
"Good job everyone," she echoed the kelpi, offering them all a bright smile as she got back to her feet to join her fellow captain in the stands. Stepping into the row behind him so she could sling arms around his shoulders, chin resting on her own bicep, but putting their faces close so their soft voices wouldn't carry. "Not bad, hm?"

Watching the newest additions to the swim squad move through the water and talk, Calder's attention flickered to Yaya who moved about him. It was always a instinct to be wary of anyone going behind him, and his ears went back, clearly disliking her approach. It wasn't that he suspected she would do anything funny, but it made him uncomfortable. That feeling was intensified in a new way as she wrapped her arms about his bare shoulders and whispered near his neck. Ears up and rigid, he looked ahead, eyes wide. "Yes. They…have a lot of potential." His Adam's apple bobbed a moment as he swallowed. "At least none of them have sunk to the bottom. I really didn’t want you trying to save a whole group of people from drowning." It wouldn't have worked out well for her and the guilt in not being able to assist was already heavy enough.

Whether or not the Kelpi's tension was apparent to the djinn was anyone's guess, but she kept her loose hold on him regardless. Turning her cheek against her own arm so she could watch his profile as he spoke. "Oh now isn't that a half truth. You would have enjoyed the show." She as teasing, but there was truth to her words. She knew damn well he would have watched on gleefully if the lot of them sank helplessly to the bottom.
Rolling her eyes back towards the now mingling peers and the pool, Yaya have the smallest of shrugs. "It wouldn't have been too terribly difficult though. You forget, I can move the water." There was a touch of pride in her voice, as well as a distinct hint of smugness. "I could have just brought them all right back up to the surface."
Teasing was all fine and dandy, but there was something the ghoul wanted to ask the pale haired boil, and now seemed as good a time as any. She did lower her voice once more to the barest of whispers. "You don't like Raziel, why?" Subtly was not Hadiyya's style.

A small smile tugged at his lips at the idea of the entire swim team drowning, which would both be ironic and something rather entertaining to watch, but he pushed the smile away at the reminder of the phone call from his parents. He shouldn't have enjoyed that idea, and tried to enforce the thought that he should save anyone sinking to the bottom. It was just hard when the first idea seemed more entertaining. Still, it was good to know that despite what weaknesses to water he had, Yaya would have been there to save anyone should he falter. At least for now. There was always the chance she wouldn't be around and then it would be a grim day when he had to be the one to be called on for help.
When Yaya mentioned Raz, his smile all but vanished and his eyes narrowed on the boy in question. Pausing a moment, he unhinged his jaw and said in a short manner. "For a short time, we used to be together."

Either for comfort, or to keep the kelpi in his seat, Yaya's arms tightened slightly around his shoulders. Not constricting in anyway, but more of a reminder of their presence. It was a touchy, that much she knew. If he needed a hug, then that was all it would be, but should he try to leave his seat she wouldn't make it easy.
She too turned her eyes to the boil in question, and dark lips pursed gently. "It did not end well." There was no question to her remark. The bad blood between the two, at last on Calder's end, was obvious. She didn't want to cause her friend pain, but she needed to know if he was going to be able to put the past behind him and try Raziel as a team mate, and not as an ex. "Will you be able to do this?" The question was simple and without any connotations. Merely an inquiry. If he wasn't going to be able to approach this situation evenly, as temporary captain, she had to know.

Didn't end "well" was an understatement. It had been brutal, and Calder had spent the whole year before coming to Amityville getting over it. He still wasn't over it entirely, but enough to not want to tear the boil to shreds when he saw him or trample him to death. Instead, he just felt the pang of hurt, the reminder of good times, and the bitterness in remembering those good times – short as they were. As Yaya held him in place, he glanced to her and then back at Raz, shrugging. "I'm fine. I moved on. I just didn’t' think he would be at this school." His eyes traveled back at her. "Not like I'm going to drown him." He said with a smile that made you wonder if he was joking or not. He then said more seriously. "I won't. As long as he doesn't start any trouble, we'll be as swell as slime."

As his reassurance she finally let her grip on him loosen to more of a hug, even as mentioned drowning the smaller boil and whether or not he'd be willing to do it. Though there was certainly truth to hi words, there was enough joking irony that the djinn chuckled, squeezing his shoulders as she pressed her cheek to his. "Swell as slime?" Letting him go finally, she stepped over the bleacher bench he was sitting on so he could take a seat beside him.
"So long as it won't effect anything." With a tilt of her head the ghoul looked down at her new teammates, smiling softly. "I expected more of them to be more water based," she admitted softly.

Calder watched the group. "I thought that too. I guess we can't be too selective, though I was hoping to meet more water creatures. Still, a love of swimming is the only requirement and not dying on us if you jump in the water." This was not a swimming class after all. Though, he did wonder if he should do such a thing for the non-swimmers in Amityville. There seemed to be a few, and the idea was just ridiculous to him.
After a time when everyone had mingled or decided just to test out the pool, Calder approached the edge again, and blew on a whistle to get their attention. "Okay team. You've all passed. If you haven't left your information with Yaya, please do. I'll be contacting all of you with the times of our next meeting and trying to arrange it when it's good for everyone. Thank you all for showing an interest."
