ALL FINAL FANTASY VII'S CHOCOBOS
Chocobos are an excellent way to move in the immense world of Final Fantasy VII and thanks to them, by making some efforts, it's possible to obtain the most powerful Summon Materia in the game: Knights of the Round.

Chocobo's got different colours, which show their principal characteristics.

*-Yellow Chocobo-*
It's the basic chocobo. Allows movings on the land. Can be obtained in the indicated places.
|+| This kind of chocobos it's the only you can obtain in a fight.

*-Blue Chocobo-*
This special kind of chocobo is the most common one. Allows to walk on rivers and waters, but can't cross the sea.
|+| In order to obtain a blue chocobo, catch a GREAT CHOCOBO and a GOOD CHOCOBO of opposite sex. Mate them by using a carob nut: you now have a BLUE CHOCOBO!

*-Green Chocobo-*
A really useful kind of chocobo: allows to walk on mountains.
|+| In order to obtain a Green chocobo, catch a GREAT CHOCOBO and a GOOD CHOCOBO of opposite sex. Feed them with 10 sylkis greens and make them reach rank A in the chocobo races. Mate them by using a carob nut: you now have a Green Chocobo.

*-Black Chocobo-*
The combination between the Green and the Blue chocobo. Allows to walk on rivers and mountains.
|+| In order to obtain a Black chocobo, feed the and the green chocobo with 10 Sylkis greens. make them reach rank A in chocobo races. mate them by using a carob nut: you now have a Black Chocobo!

*-Gold Chocobo-*
The best kind of chocobo. Able to walk on rivers, mountains and on the sea.
|+| In order to obtain a Gold Chocobo, catch a Wonderful Chocobo (Icicle Inn): this kind of chocobo is extremely rare; it's important that the one you catch is of the opposite sex of the Black Chocobo. Feed both the black and the wonderful chocobos with 10 Sylkis greens and make them reach rank A in chocobo races. Now, mate them by using a Zeio nut: congratulations! You now own a gold chocobo! With it, you will be able to reach the Round Island (on the northeastern corner of the world map) and get the Knights Of The Round Summon Materia.

thats really the one problem with some games. having to level your charater up and in some games it takes forever to level up but yea....breeding chocobos takes forever and i found it to be annoying as heck.

Almoria
asically they already covered everything. The one thing they didn't say is that they do NOT have to be A or S rank. I got my Gold Chocobo with everything without racing once. It took me two tries to get a green one to get a blue two to get a black and three to get a gold. It al depends on your luck.

true, you don't need to have S-class chocobos to breed the special chocobos. but by racing your chocobos to S-class means you will most likely get the chocobos your aiming for first time and the new chocobow will have much better base stats than it would from "lower class" parents. (Oh the social commentery)

Also remember there are certain items and some very usefull support materia that can only be aquired in the races and racing is also one of the best sorcies of GP (so you can more readly use the battle arena for W-summon and Omnislash), so its worth your while raceing the chocobos any way.

Gold chocobos are also obtained by trade : Defeat ruby weapon get desert rose, trade rose with man in Kalm for gold chocobo. at least i think it was confused

I've been mating my two S ranks for 5 hours and still no gold chocobo. My luck SUCKS. just more proof that S rank doesn't nessacarily guarantee you'll get a gold chocobo any time soon.

just feed the chocobos the right nuts and try to only breed good chocobos or great ones

I can't seem to get my good chocobo higher than B rank...

I gave it as much greens as I could afford, around 8 of the best kind too. When I go to race, which I only need one more win to move up, I can't get higher than a 2nd place. As soon as it goes to the outerspace/dark scene after the bridge all the other chocobos get to the front no matter how much of a lead I have. I was seriously a long way from them and suddenly I was in last place (I was sprinting by the way)

Any suggestions on how to fix that? I need it to be higher rank so I can get my green chocobo...I have a blue but I can't seem to get a female green--it's always male--and I think that will help if I get it to A rank.

Take a save file and copy it. From that save file, follow the process of mating. Each time you get a result you don't like, reset. I don't know what the exact odds are, but you will eventually hit on the Chocobo you want.

As for the race, either you've got an extreamely rare glitch or your disk might be dirty? Use the one cheat that's in the game and make sure you have PLENTY of stamina before you hit that area.
(Also, is the guy with the Black Chocobo in all of those races? If so, and you're coming in second against him, then it's understandable, I think black chocobo's are immune to the slowing effect of the underwater/outer space effects of slowing down.)

If you have done this, or if this don't work, please, explain what you're doing in more detail so that any one of the members can spot it and tell you what you might need to be doing.

No, I never have raced the black chocobo before--I know who that is though, it's kind of odd that the normal ones are so fast though. razz I'll try cleaning the disc. It's just really bizzare how I got a blue chocobo first try at breeding...then the green one I almost never get when I try.

The stamina thing, do you mean when you hold down l1+l2+r1+r2? Or is there something else for that also?

Thank you by the way. ^^

It's not a problem. I don't have this game anymore, which saddens me, but I remember the frustrations of Chocobo Breeding.
"During chocobo racing mini-game, hold L1 + L2 + R1 + R2 to increase your chocobo's speed. Hold R1 + R2 to recover your chocobo's stamina"
That's the cheat, I'm talking mainly about the Recovering to use.
Also, if you would, would you post the stats of your Chocobo against the chocobo you encounter in different races? (Say, start three races and each time you have a new chocobo, list them.) That'll help in letting me know a few things.

Keep in mind that sometimes, no matter what you do, your chocobo might not ever get past B rank.
I'll read through these posts in this topic and see exactly what is mentioned about Breeding and see if there's anything missing you might need to know.

Edit: Back on page 2, there is a quoted post, it's a good guide of Chocobo Breeding. If you haven't, read over that and make sure you've done everything.
If you've used this to get where you are, then there is a good chance you'll have to start all over. But that's alright. With the W-Item glitch, (IT IS NOT A CHEAT) you'll be able to get what you need fairly quickly.

You guys know that once you get a gold chocobo you can run to the topright coner of the map(i think) you get the ultimate summon knights of the round it takes like ten mins but at level 99 with 255 attack does 9999 each hit.

It's helpful to keep you Chocobos hopped up on Sylkis Greens.
These are the best greens you can give your Chocobos.
Will help there stamina in races.
You can only by them from the Chocobo Sage but if you have w-item materia you only need to by two to have an endless amount.

Did you know there is a way to get W-item materia even if you missed it early in the game? It's true. You can dig it up in the Bone Village if you rather not start the game over to get it.

does anyone know how I can get my river chocobo to mature faster? I have tried racing it forever (cant win in the a-rank though, its too slow), feeding it (even though its stats are maxed out) and riding it around, but its till says "you shouldn't mate chocobo that were lust mated or just born." dammit it is neither. why wont it let me breed.
