Riley took off with a peal of laughter, before stopping quite suddenly and turning around to surprise the oncoming puppy.
Uh oh. Riley's gonna getcha. She teased, flipping the race around to chase her instead. She only took a few steps, enough to probably convince Luce that she was going to chase, before she backed up and hide behind Malodore.
Shhh, she whispered to Malodore, while practically disappearing behind him. Her fingers released his claws as she did so, waiting to see if Luce would come looking for her.
A tiny thought fluttered through her mind, hoping that no one was watching. She'd prefer it if no one knew how soft Luce made her, except Malodore.

Luce darted away, running a good twenty feet before realizing that she... wasn't being chased? Huh? The puppy turned back around, ears lifting in confusion - then dropped her nose to the ground and started sniffing.
Sniff. Sniffsniffsniff. Sniff- oh, there you are, purplefriend, right behind Master! That game was easy. Luce sat down on the edge of Riley's skirt and wagged her tail.
Malodore would have smirked if it could. "She is a hunter, you know," it reminded Riley. "It takes a bit more than that to lose her."

Riley giggled low, quietly, and to herself, before bending down and scooping Luce up in her arms.
You're such a clever girl. She murmured affectionately, rubbing her face gently into Luce's nose before setting her back down on the ground.
At least I can count on one thing. She stepped out from behind Malodore to take her place at his side again. If either of us are ever missing, we can count on Luce to find us.

Luce yipped happily and licked Riley's face before being put down; as soon as her paws hit the ground she was off and running again.
"Absolutely. I've been thinking about finding her something she can hunt... I believe she's of hunting stock." Malodore watched Luce dart into a patch of overgrown weeds. "It wouldn't hurt to nurture those tendencies."

Riley watched Luce as she peeled off, and tilted her head. I think that's a wonderful idea. I was just out hunting with Jericho recently, though I think our prey might have been a little big for her. Hm.. What sort of game would suit Luce, she wondered. Perhaps.. ah. We could take her out to hunt some dubbits! I can just see her scampering along trying to catch them. That would be almost more cute than Riley thought she could take.
Her eyes flickered to the shadows of the forest in the distance, and saddened slightly. The thought of the hunt, and the forest, reminded her that her hazmutt hadn't come back. She was pretty sure that particular pet was lost to her.
Dubbits are not native to the forests, either. So we wouldn't have to take Luce out there to hunt them. Which is.. good.

"No... I'm not terribly interested in going back to that forest. Not on foot, not by train," Malodore said wryly, shaking its head. "But dubbits... that should be fine. Hmm. The differences in their behaviors should be entertaining, too. Will it be a flyer or a hopper? Good training."

Her expression brightened at his approval, and she nodded. I think she'll enjoy that. I'd certainly enjoy watching her go at it. Her eyes scanned the area, looking for where Luce had run off to. As she did so, her mind caught up to some of the things that she had meant to do before the chaos of the day consumed it. It made her expression darkened in a touch of sadness.
I hate to say it, but I should probably return to my dorm soon. I haven't done any of my homework yet.. you can imagine why. She let out a brief chuckle.

"I have a few assignments I need to complete as well," Malodore admitted. "I was so busy worrying about Luce... and then I had to set up for some new houseguests of mine, too. They were tucked behind a curtain for acclimatizing, but.... do you know Calder? He seems to have an issue with water. I am tending his leeches for him until it is resolved." Malodore shook its head, its tone amused. "It reminds me of the - few - good parts of home."

Riley perked slightly when Calder was mentioned, suddenly looking very interested. I haven't formally met him, but I've seen him before. That's very kind of you to tend to his pets like that. What is his issue with water? She briefly remembered the episode she'd seen, and Calder's strange expression when he tried to drown the student. Issue with water, indeed..

"Oh, he had some water in his room for the leeches, but that has now been forbidden by the administration." Malodore shrugged, the metal blades on its back rippling with the movement. "They have their reasons, I presume. Until that privilege is reinstated, the leeches are in a jar in my own room. I had some when I was a wee plagueling, so it's a bit nostalgic."

Forbidden from water? Ouch. He isn't going to smell very nice soon. She chuckled. At the mention of Malodore's childhood, Riley found herself trying to picture it. A thousand questions filled her mind at once, and she pushed them all down. Well, it was good that he found you to help him, then. She finally murmured, trying very hard not to bombard him with questions of his childhood. It was like an itch, dying to be scratched, and she was fighting very hard not to scratch it. The best option she found was to take her leave.
Well. She whispered, looking down at the hem of her shirt as she worried it with her claws. I'll head off and get some of that homework started, I suppose. I'll ah, come see you tomorrow, if you want me to?

"Of course," Malodore said immediately, as Luce came up to them one more time - the little pup was panting now, her tongue lolling out of one side of her mouth. "Running tomorrow, or perhaps we should begin the next day? I have a feeling Luce will need her rest tonight."

Riley's expression brightened when Luce trotted, panting, back up to them. She bent down and scratched behind her ears with both her hands. Ohh, you needed that, didn't you precious. I knew you'd enjoy it. She nodded up to Malodore, looking as though she'd be grinning if she had the mouth to do so. That's fine. We can begin the day after tomorrow, and let her catch up on some rest.
She released Luce and stood back up, sending a lingering affectionate nudge into Malodore's mind. She then waved with a slow curl of the fingers of one hand, and took a few steps back. Have a good night, she sent as farewell, before heading back to her dorm.
