Akio moved to stand beside her. They didn't touch but were close enough that he could feel her heat radiating off her. He too reveled in her scent. She carried herself as if she was a brash young stallion but the look of her in the twilight revealed her to be entirely a mare. Few stallions had ever seen her like this if any had, he thought. The sight of the feminine Utena was his and his alone. His princess.
"It will be dark soon," he murmured, fixing his eyes upward so he would not draw attention to his admiring gaze.

Utena felt something strange happening to her. It wasn't anything she had ever felt before. Normally outspoken, now she felt herself going silent. She was filled with confusion. Something about this night alone with Akio was different than all their other times together. It wasn't only something different with him, it was something different with her as well.
"I said I'd show Capriccia my favorite grazing spot after we got back from here," she murmured, looking deliberately anywhere but at the stallion. "I hope she can find something to eat. I would hate to think that she's going hungry."

Even while not looking directly at her, Akio could feel the changes going through Utena. Her voice had lost the brash ring that it usually carried. She was growing softer and more feminine by the moment. He had never seen her so beautiful. That demure stance suited her so much better than all of her princely posturing. Now she was delicate, a princess. His princess.
"I'm certain that Capriccia will be fine," he said soothingly. He turned his head slightly and let himself watch her more directly. He couldn't stand to keep his eyes away from her any longer.

Utena knew that Akio was watching her but she didn't let herself meet his eyes. She was focused on a point far away from them, trees at the horizon. Was that his breath that she could feel on her neck? Was he really that close? It was warm and smelled faintly familiar, like roses. Like her prince.
It was ridiculous to think, she knew. He had probably just found a patch of roses and eaten them before their visit. Still, she couldn't take the image out of her mind. His voice was so soft, almost the way she remembered her prince's voice as being.
"Maybe... maybe I should go find her," she murmured. She longed to act on those words but knew within her that she would not. Now that she was here trapped like this, her heart would not let her leave so quickly.

"No. Stay here with me." The moment that he said the words, Akio took one step closer to her. Now they were directly touching side to side. Utena's heat left her body to warm his. He had no question in his mind that she was going to stay. He had been with many mares in his life and recognized surrender immediately. She had already given up the intention of leaving.
"I had a few constellations I thought might interest you, after all." Of course that wasn't what he was really after, but it would give her an easier explanation to grasp onto than the truth.

"Constellations... right." She couldn't recognize the tone of voice she was using. It was almost as if someone had replaced her with another mare. She wasn't acting like herself at all. She could feel herself slipping away but did not have the power to stop the fall. It was frightening.
"What stars are your favorite tonight?" she asked, hoping to find her way onto more familiar territory. Stars were safe. Maybe she could find herself again in a topic she understood.

A low chuckle escaped him. She was as nervous as a wind filly on her first flight. Her delicateness made her as soft and beautiful as a blooming rose. One gust of frosty air could destroy her now. He could destroy her easily. Fortunately for her, he didn't want to destroy her. He just wanted to possess her.
"Aquila." His voice came out smooth and clear in the silence of the night. "Up there, do you see?" He carefully described the position of the starred eagle in the sky. He could look into the sky and read it as a human might read a map. He sometimes forgot that some soquili couldn't see it as he did.

Squinting up into the sky, Utena picked out the stars once Akio drew her attention to them. Amid all the stars, she could find the ones patterned like an eagle in flight. It was interesting to her how the stars could be utterly meaningless at a casual glance, but once they had a story she couldn't see anything else.
"That's right, I can see it. Aquila." She smiled as the name rolled off her tongue. It had a nice feeling to it. "It's only too bad there aren't more soquili in the stars," she murmured. All these constellations he had taught her so far and no soquili. Strange.

Akio pondered for a moment then responded. "I am certain there are many soquili in the stars. I simply do not know those stories." In response to Utena's questioning look, he continued. "I, like you, am not native to these lands. I know the constellations and star names from the land that I hail from, but not the local customs."
He thought of the local soquili. Compared to the cultured mares and stallions of his homeland, they were bumbling savages to his eyes. "I'm afraid that I can only teach you what I know. I believe that the constellations I am most familiar with come from human tradition, though I do not know how they possibly could have come to soquili knowledge if so."

Looking up at the stars, Utena began to imagine her own constellations. If Akio couldn't show her soquili in the stars then she could invent some of her own. She thought she could see them already, unicorns and angeni, even a kalona with wings traced in twinkling lights.
"Next time, maybe I'll tell you some stories about stars," she murmured while staring upwards. Realizing what she had said, she quickly blinked in chagrin. She didn't want to make Akio think that she wasn't paying attention to him.

Akio was slightly surprised, but not in a bad way. She wanted to show him a thing or two? He was open to that. Her timidity was starting to wane, it seemed. That meant that it was time to advance things a little. "Utena." He turned toward her fully, exposing her to the complete power of his gaze.
"I wanted you here for something more than looking at stars." Want. Using that word, he hoped to sidestep ambiguity. His eyelids were half lowered and his voice was low and smooth like a cat's rumbling purr. "You're captivating, did you know that? Like a fairytale princess."

Utena drew in her breath in something almost a gasp. Akio's words had caught her completely by surprise and left her mentally staggering. The tension that had lurked between them now was brought out into the open and she was unprepared for it.
"I..." She struggled to find the words. It was hard to string together a sentence with her heart racing. She couldn't look at him anymore. She quickly turned away and tried to gather her wits. "Thank you, but... I'm not a princess. I'm a prince." Though she said the words they came out weak and quiet. It was as if she couldn't even believe what she was saying.

"You might be a prince, but you're still my little princess." He leaned in closer, inhaling deeply of her scent. She was utterly irresistible. The more out of her element she was the more beautiful she was. He wanted nothing more than to possess that shyness and see her kept in that state forever.
"Just stay with me tonight," he murmured. "And let me be your prince." Utena, so strong and proud, was nothing different than any other mare at heart. This was proven by the sudden demureness, by the soft sighs she gave when he was close to her. She was the most amazing mare that he had ever found, and she was his.
